Dorm Log: the millionth revenge

What: Dorm log! SUMMER BREAK EDITION!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. Everything is acceptable.
When: The span of July 11 - July 22
Warnings: Imagine college, only with more super mushrooms-- WAIT NO lollipop drugs are the craze these days.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's what's going down. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. So have at it! Don't let this log get away untagged.

Keep in mind that starting the 17th, the school will progressively be inundated with flood waters.

[He glares down at him. If you try to steal his stuff, he'll be able to reprimand you, boy.]

[He doesn't need them for a quest, so your things are safe for now, Shadow.

Link did, however, pout as he shook the glove and shoe off and then pulled the shirt over his head.]

Why do you have so many gloves?

[A simple question, a simple answer, but one he's unsure of the boy understanding. He glances down to the inhibitor rings clamped around his gloves, all the way to his wrists.]

I need them... to sustain my inhibitor rings. They are too loose without gloves, and that is risky.

[He lifts a hand, watching as the ring glows with Chaos Energy.]

If these are removed... the consequences will be dire for all.

They inhibit my powers to prevent certain, accidental mass murder.

[SO MORBID YET HE'S SO CALM AND DEADPANNED WHILE SAYING IT.]

How does that work?

[He totally doesn't understand any of that. 'murder' was quite literally not in vocabulary.]

My powers are extraordinary. How you have not yet realized that much is puzzling.

[He grabs for the shoe, placing it back next to its counterpart. He then reaches for the glove to put it back with the others.] I have enough energy to destroy many lives. These rings prevent that energy from being unleashed.

[And that, he decides, is all he needs to know.]

I've never seen your powers.

[Link watched Shadow put his clothing back with an attentive eye.]

Why can't you control them without the rings?

I have far more energy than my body alone can control. My rings hold me back. It is incredibly simple.

[He gives Link this look. Sheesh, kids sure are curious. Shadow thinks it is overly so.]

[breaks_pots]

[Link's face falls, becoming incredibly sad on Shadow's behalf. It sounded like Shadow had to always be on the look out so his rings didn't fall off. He probably didn't get to have a lot of fun without constantly worrying about them.]

I'm sorry. I won't touch your gloves again.

[They were far too important to Shadow for Link to take, even if he did need them for some reason.]

No, that is--

[Wait.

A look of realization dawns upon him. He... didn't retaliate? He didn't start posing any stupid questions? He understood him?

Shadow looks down at him, all annoyance in his expression wiped clean away, a rarity in itself.]

... You won't?

[breaks_pots]

[He hadn't immediately understood, but Link wasn't stupid. He just needed information laid out clearly for him to understand. As stilted as Shadow's answers had been, he'd gotten enough pieces to put the puzzle together.

Link gave a nod - just the one - and offered a small smile.]

I promise not to touch your extra gloves again.

Shadow dips his head just slightly, not out of guilt, but out of genuine amazement that someone is being this... considerate. He's used to the standard Sonic manner of handling things, namely the idea that he would likely just rip his gloves off without care.

This kid, however, is putting him on enough of a pedestal to care.

... Interesting.]

Hn. Alright.

[Not a huffy or flat `fine`, but an `alright`. That's a surprising step up.

He steps aside from the closet, allowing the kid enough space to get out. As he does so, he mutters something with a flip of his head to the side, something that might have vaguely sounded like a, "Thank you."]

[Link slipped out of the closet and into the room proper, heading over to the beds and crawling up on one of them so he could sit down on it.]

You have a lot of stuff.

[At this point, he isn't sure how to react or what to say. Shadow sits on the bed a ways away from him, hands folded neatly on his lap and head still tilted away.]

... I doubt my `stuff` amounts to as much as most.

Does it need to?

[Shadow had more than Link. Most people at the school had more stuff than Link. And it was all more than Link could carry on his person. That qualified as 'a lot' as far as the boy was concerned. He used to have a lot of stuff, back in the Kokiri Forest. But he didn't anymore because it wasn't at the school with him.]

Of course not. I only require my bare necessities.

[He eyes him curiously. This kid is digging in peoples' closets for treasure. Just what is his situation, he wonders?

... Might as well find out. He doubts the kid will leave any time soon.]

Do you go `hunting for treasure` for a living?

For a living?

[He didn't understand the question at all.]

... [SIGH. Okay. Fine. He'll rephrase that.]

Do you have to steal others' belongings in order to survive? [For necessities such as food, water, clothes, and the like.]

[breaks_pots]

[Link shook his head.]

No. I don't steal anything.

[He's not used to living in a place where he's not allowed to take what the believes he needs to get by. It's not stealing if it's expected and allowed. At worse it's the literal 'borrowing without intent to return'. Even then, he wouldn't think of it in those terms.]

... Then just what would you call taking materials from my closet?

[Shadow arched a brow, the look on his face a little menacing and astounded all at the same time. He didn't consider this stealing? How?]

[breaks_pots]

I didn't take anything. I was just looking for stuff I might need so I could take it if I did.

[Totally not stealing. Why you so upset?]

... Which would thus be stealing if you did.

[Stare.

How can children be this dumb, exactly?]
