Dorm Log: the millionth revenge

What: Dorm log! SUMMER BREAK EDITION!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. Everything is acceptable.
When: The span of July 11 - July 22
Warnings: Imagine college, only with more super mushrooms-- WAIT NO lollipop drugs are the craze these days.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's what's going down. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. So have at it! Don't let this log get away untagged.

Keep in mind that starting the 17th, the school will progressively be inundated with flood waters.

Greenhouse

[gentlesaint]

[Rhys is getting to work with the herbs he wants to plant in the greenhouse. He's carrying them in a cardboard box, but it's a little difficult for him since he went all this way carrying a whole garden's worth of them... Because many of them aren't very flashy or exciting to look at as some of the other more exotic and floral specimens in the greenhouse, he plans to keep them out of the way in their own special corner.

On his way, he chances upon a small girl with violet hair and a leaf sticking from it. He's sure he's seen her around before. Better say hi!]

Good... morning! [He's a little lost for breath due to exertion. That's a lot of plants, Rhys!]

[iaiai]

[As soon as Ai sensed someone else's presence in the greenhouse, she turned to greet them with a warm smile. To her surprise, it was the man Vianca occasionally spent time with...! She waved politely in reply.]

Hello!

[She eyes Rhys' box o' herbs.]

Do you need help with that? Is it heavy?

[gentlesaint]

N-no... thank you, but... I can... make it...

[SURE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT... You're kind of wobbling there, Rhys.]

[iaiai]

Well... if you're sure...

[But Ai doesn't seem to trust his answer. She slowly gets to her feet and hesitantly-- although she hardly notices she's even moving herself-- inches towards Rhys, her arms out as if she's expecting something to fall.

She chirps, assuring him;]

I don't mind helping...!

[gentlesaint]

Well... they... are getting a bit heavy for me...

[He lets her take them, but tentatively because he's not sure whether such a small girl could lift them right away.]

[iaiai]

[Ai takes the plants from him with relative ease. She holds it up against her chest as if he'd just handed her a box full of feathers, rather than heavy plants. She smiles.]

Where should I put them?

[gentlesaint]

Whew... Over there, please. I will lead the way.

[They start moving toward the obscure little plot he had wanted for them.]

I must say... You're a lot stronger than I thought you would be! Then again, I'm the one who's absurdly weak around here... hah. Your help is very much appreciated.

[iaiai]

[Ai follows, nodding her head side to side in time with her steps.]

A lot of people say that. I'm a lot stronger than most girls my age. Purple Pikmin are very strong!

[gentlesaint]

Ahh! You're a Pikmin, then! [Rhys sounds delighted!] I'm sure you know Vianca. [That was kind of an obvious statement and he knew it, because he'd seen Vianca and Ai together at numerous points in time.] She's my assistant in the infirmary. A very smart girl, too. She's the only other Pikmin I know.

[iaiai]

Yes, Vianca is my sister! And, yes, she's very smart. She's the smartest person I know...! [She pauses very briefly, then adds;] Now you know two Pikmin!

[Which is clearly very exciting. Ai's smile brightens considerably.]

Oh! Um. Where should I set this down?

[gentlesaint]

Riiiight over here. [He gestures to a spot next to the plot.] Thank goodness you were here when I needed you. I'm almost sure I would have teetered over had you not helped me out... You might have saved me a few bruises!

[iaiai]

[Ai positions herself appropriately, then quickly sets the box down beside the plot Rhys had motioned to. She stands up straight again and smooths her skirt over, still smiling.]

Well, you're very welcome! You should ask me for help any time you need to lift something heavy!

[gentlesaint]

I'll be sure to call on your help if it's no trouble for you. Oh, um, If you'd like, you could plant a few of these herbs with me. It would be nice to be kept company while I work.

[iaiai]

It isn't any trouble at all!

[Her smile lights up again, and she nods excitedly.]

I would like to! Thank you! -- What are these for?

[gentlesaint]

[He gets down on his knees to start planting.] Most of these are medicinal herbs. I use them to make salves and tonics and the like. I thought it would be much more accessible to find them in the greenhouse when I need them than out in the woods!

[iaiai]

[Ai has no idea what a salve or a tonic was, but she nods as if she does. She kneels down beside Rhys, looking over the herbs in question.]

That makes sense! ... Was your garden in the woods?

[Because everyone has a garden, right?]

[gentlesaint]

[Rhys chuckles a bit and shakes his head.] No... These were, for the most part, wild. Scattered all across the woods. Bit by bit, I began to garner a small collection every time I went out walking. [He runs a hand over the tops of their leaves.] I guess it's not so small anymore!

[iaiai]

Ohh...! That sounds fun.

[She smiles, fingering the leaves of another one of Rhys' herbs. She can sense their impatience to be planted in the ground again, but she keeps that to herself.]

You're going to have a really nice garden when you're finished here!

[gentlesaint]

You think so? I hope I do them justice. I'm not exactly a gardener, you see.

[He rummaged around in his box and hoped that he had something for Ai to use as far as planting went. Ah! He had two shovels, not one! Maybe it was luck. He smiled a little more and picked it out to hand it to her.]

Do you plant things often?

[iaiai]

I can help you keep an eye on them, if you want me to.

[She takes the shovel offered to her, and idly begins to dig a spot for the first of Rhys' plants.]

Hmm... I plant things sometimes. I have my own Pikmin! And I plant other things sometimes, but mostly I just like to be around other plants.

[gentlesaint]

Thank you! [And Rhys gets busy digging holes too.]

Plants are nice to be around, aren't they? I think they're refreshing. Mm, I hope this doesn't come across as a weird question, but... what is it like to be part plant? I never thought to ask Vianca about that...

[Probably because the only time he remembered seeing her as a Pikmin was as a fragile, bedridden mess. It probably wasn't in good taste to ask her how she felt about that while the curiosity was fresh in his mind...]

[iaiai]

I don't think it's a weird question. But, um... [She pauses thoughtfully, carefully perfecting the nest for the plant she has her eye on.] I don't really know. I don't know what it's like to be not like that!

[She takes the first of Rhys' plants and gently places it in its spot.]

I can feel what other plants are thinking... We can communicate.

[gentlesaint]

[Rhys looked at her with fascination.]

I didn't know plants had thoughts to think...! I mean, the idea played through my mind before when I was bored and hadn't much else to do, but... wow.

[Then, he peered down at the peppermint plant he was holding. At first, his face shone with the amazement he first felt, but then it slowly dimmed to a more remorseful look.]

Then... do they feel pain, too?

[iaiai]

[Her expression falls a little, too.]

When a plant is wilting... It's in pain. [She pauses again, then takes a good look at Rhys' plants.] You don't need to worry about your plants, though. They feel a little impatient, but they're not hurting!

[With that, she covers the first plant's roots with enough dirt, gently pats the spot and smiles to herself again when she's finished.]

[gentlesaint]

But what if someone plucks a leaf off a tree, or picks a flower from the ground? Doesn't that hurt them?
