Dorm Log The Sequel To End All Sequels

Who: COLLECTIVE YOU
What: Dorm log!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. If your heart dreams it, your fingers can type it.
When: The span of February 27 - March 13
Warnings: This log is yellow-taped with all kinds of potential warnings. If your filthy imagination can conjure it, this log can produce it.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's how this works. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. Feel like drawing graffiti on Professor Jin's door? Apologizing for the aftermath of the latest cupidbot fiasco? Doing each others' hair and talking about boys? Giving your trusted(?!?) friends a free ride in the dryer? Staying up late at night making use of those dick-shaped cake pans you found in the cupboard? Man, I don't care, just do it! Don't let this log get away untagged.

Perhaps she was flattering. However, it wasn't as if she didn't mean any of those things. Voile carried herself well and spoke in an acceptable manner. For someone as shallow as Celes, who thought appearance was pretty much the be-all-end-all, the Gardevoir had gained her favor.

Of course, that didn't put her any higher than a Rank D, but what do you expect. You didn't start to truly matter to her just because you spoke and looked pretty.

"Well, I've always been very good at reading people." she states that simply enough, however she doesn't plan on elaborating any further. Oh well. "But yes, I would be love for us to get to know each other better. I was just playing a game of solitaire, as you can see-" she gestures to the table, where various cards are lying about. "but I wouldn't mind a friendly game of poker against you over tea and conversation."

The words caught Voile's attention almost immediately. Reading people. The gardevoir might have said she did the same thing, but she was already not very open about that ability. It wasn't something she advertised and it hadn't taken much from Phoenix's reaction to it to remind her that it wasn't a good idea to be so open. Even with people she grew to trust. Or perhaps that was just a case of old habits dying rather hard.

She looked down to the table, eyed the cards, then looked back to Celestia. "If you wouldn't mind explaining the rules to me. I've never played before and while I doubt I'll be much of a challenge for you, it'd be a shame if the game were not so interesting." Her head tilted and her smile grew, as if to be reassuring for her dark-haired companion.

Do you want me to skip the explaination?

Celes nods at Voile's question before turning her attention back toward the table. She picks up the deck of cards, placing them back into their original format before idly shuffling them. "Poker, in its simplest form, is a game of luck. Like any game, skill is a requirement, but luck is what usually determines the victor. Of course, there's more to it than that, but we'll discuss it later..."

Once the deck has been properly shuffled, the gambler deals out the cards. 2 for Voile and 2 for Celes, placing the remaining card left in the deck face down to the side of her, since she'll be functioning as dealer.

"I'll explain to you the basics with a practice game. Shall we begin?"

YEAH. I THINK WE CAN SKIP IT.

"A game of luck?"

That was a horrible way to begin because in retrospect, Voile had to admit that she was probably one of the most unlucky people in the academy. But then in hindsight, she also had to confess that her unlucky background was likely all because of her and not so much on the wing of other people. Not that she necessarily wanted to admit to that and she wouldn't have easily, but there was a difference between denying it to the world and denying it to herself.

She moved to sit down across from Celestia and eyed the cards that were left for her. Without picking them up, she set her two fingers against the back in a silent anticipation. "I am willing to give it a try. One never learns without the first attempt." Her smile returned as she turned her gaze onto her companion. "Consider me attentive and eager to learn." And she was.

After Voile gave Celes the go ahead, the gambler explains the rules in a timely manner, teaching her about the types of hands you can have, what beats what, basic rules, and the like. Of course they need to show each other their hands to explain, but it wasn't a real game so it doesn't actually count. Once the practice game's over, she goes into further depth by taking the deck apart and going over things in a more detailed explanation.

Finally, when she's done listening to the sound of her own perfect voice explaining, she tilts her head and looks curiously at Voile. "Did you find my explanation sufficient?"

If nothing else, it was pretty thorough.

To say Voile understood everything and truly did was one thing than actually demonstrated. She knew she was going to pause here, there, and everywhere when they played a real game. But she could at least do her best and she had a feeling Celestia was going to be pleased with the maximum effort that was given. And Voile never gave anything but her best.

"It was, yes..." she began somewhat uncertainly. "...I doubt I'll get it so easily, so I hope you'll have a little patience with me."

A nod is the only response Voile would receive at first. It's understandable that she, a normal person, wouldn't completely understand the game after only one explanation. Of course it would take a bit of time and patience for her to learn the game completely. While Celes saw little point in reiterating this, it wouldn't hurt to give her some words of encouragement as she picks up the cards to reform the deck.

"I'm sure you'll do fine, Miss Voile. Besides, you have me as a teacher. Games of chance are my forte, so you've got nothing to worry about."
