Dorm Log The Sequel To End All Sequels

[The mute man has taken to scouting the grounds of the academy and the town. He's still given excessive thought to Charlise's murder, and feels his hands are tied due to the amount of distrust he has [rightfully] acquired. Still he presses on.

Observant and attentive, Caim has made himself available almost anywhere imaginable. In more secret locales, such as behind the academy, he sketches as he sits in the clearing. But lately he's taken to visiting FDC's weapon shop, perhaps in search of a new toy... And it seems wherever he may go he's accompanied by at least two yellow pikmin.]

Caim walked into Max's forge. "Hi, I need a new weapon for killing people," said Caim to Max.

Max picked up a box full of anvils and beat Caim over the head with them.

"Oh, my face," said Caim as he went soaring through the air as Max kicked him out of the forge with his steel-toed boot.

[Two yellow ones... and perhaps a surprising addition of a white one.

It was no secret that Vianca did not entirely trust Caim. It was also not a secret that she did not approve of the continued interactions between him and her sister. It was clear when she stopped near him in the clearing that she did not like that he had two pikmin with him... Except actually that was just her normal face, carry on.

But considering all of the above, it was odd that she was there, and had obviously sought him out.]

[Vianca was not who he was expecting to see. It was true he had managed to avoid her ire for the most part. The last time he'd truly seen Ai in person was for Christmas when she had helped him 'birth' the two Pikmin he had with him. And there was one or two conversations over the network. If anything, Caim had been extremely well-behaved and very respectful of Vianca's request.

But he wasn't about to plead a case to her.

So when he found her pausing by him, he abruptly paused - even stiffened a little. Perhaps because he was expecting more chiding remarks from her. He looked to her and remained attentive, if not a little regal in how he stood.]

[For a few moments, probably more than necessary, Vianca watched him and took note of the shift in his stance. Eventually, she spoke.]

Caim the Human.

[And for once... Vianca dropped her stare, letting her gaze fall away from his face for a moment.]

... There is something I must ask of you.

[He almost flinched. Almost. Only because he was still anticipating a scolding, and for something he didn't even know about. But her words caught him by surprise and he was sure it was evident on his face. A request. The girl had a request for him and he knew at some point of his life, he wouldn't have listened. He would have kept right on walking.

He'd changed a lot, hadn't he?]

.......

[His head tipped and he motioned with his right hand for her to continue. He'd still listen.]

[It was not like her to be nervous about speaking. She was often silent, but it was by choice, not some effect of fear or shyness. But there she stood, hesitant.]

I...

[It was hard to take back your words once they had already been said.]

... I need you to watch over my sister.

[If he'd been in Caerleon, those kinds of words implied marriage. Unions. Matrimony. It was usually what a father said to the man taking his daughter. Or in Caim's case, what he said to Inuart when Furiae was promised to him.

He seemed to know well enough that wasn't what she was getting at. It didn't stop him from feeling the slightest bit apprehensive, however. He motioned to her with his index finger and in his Caim way of speaking, he tried to enunciate silent words for her.]

Do you intend on going somewhere?

[She watched him intently, sorting out what he was trying to say. Once she had it, she shook her head.]

I intend to stay here. However I... am unable to protect her, and I suspect that more harm will try to come to her.

[More harm. Caim wondered what she could have meant. Being absent from Ai's life mostly meant missing out on things like that. It made him a little angry - the thought of someone harming her. He'd wanted to go out of his way to protect her. In earnest.

His next question was an unavoidable one.]

You despise me. Of all people to request this of, why would you come to me.

It is true that I do not see you favorably... But I cannot deny that you care for Ai.

[For a moment, Vianca actually looked sad. Certainly sadder than her expression usually allowed.]

It is an incredibly selfish request. I apologize.

[He sighed and did something that he knew he shouldn't have. He moved closer to her. And even beyond that, he knelt down and made the motion to take her into his arms. For a simple embrace. Because while he wasn't really the most empathic person - or empathic at all, for that matter - he hadn't ever really disliked her.]

You act like I would not defend you as well. You should have come to me sooner.

[She took a step back, halting where she stood. This wasn't what she expected. She did not know what to do with this.]

... I am not meant to be defended.

[So he stayed in his position, thinking more in that moment that Vianca had somehow become akin to a sister. And in some ways, a more stoic and prideful version of Furiae. She was simply herself.]

Say as you will.

[Caim shook his head at her and motioned with a hand as he raised an eyebrow at her. At least he knew better than to make her feel awkward for too long.]

Watching over your sister I can do conveniently. Is she to stay with me, or how precisely do you plan to set this up?

[Well good. That was relieving for more than one reason.]

It may be best for her to stay with you. I do not think she will oppose too strongly.

[He thought on that for a few moments and finally offered a nod. Not that he was going to turn down such a charge. Taking Ai in as his ward did seem like something fitting. Eventually, at any point. He could simply play the part of her retainer.]

Acceptable. And what of you? Will you be... well?

[She paused.]

... It is my intent.

[He eyed her for a good long moment. Then he straightened up and found his way back into a stiff posture.]

If something should happen with that intent, bring it to me. That is not a request.

[Sword or no sword, Caim had no qualms striking down anyone who so much as laid a hand on her. He just couldn't say it.]

[She supposed that planning to speak of the matter in public counted enough for that, though it was not for her own benefit. For now, she found it sufficient enough to simply nod in answer.]

...

Thank you.

[Those are foreign words for him to hear. He can't even remember the last time someone said that. That probably implies it's been a while.

He shakes his head at her.]

I will move at your request. When Ai is prepared - provided she is - you may find my quarters at TD-07.
