Dorm Log The Sequel To End All Sequels
Who: COLLECTIVE YOU
What: Dorm log!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. If your heart dreams it, your fingers can type it.
When: The span of February 27 - March 13
Warnings: This log is yellow-taped with all kinds of potential warnings. If your filthy imagination can conjure it, this log can produce it.
Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's how this works. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!
Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. Feel like drawing graffiti on Professor Jin's door? Apologizing for the aftermath of the latest cupidbot fiasco? Doing each others' hair and talking about boys? Giving your trusted(?!?) friends a free ride in the dryer? Staying up late at night making use of those dick-shaped cake pans you found in the cupboard? Man, I don't care, just do it! Don't let this log get away untagged.

Zelda - dorm room or any given building
B. Or, if you're the wandering type, you might find Zelda in the halls of just about any given building, familiarizing herself with her new "home." She'll try to be as noninvasive as possible, but it's a little difficult not to notice that this is probably the third or fourth time she's passed your room or office.
She's just getting really familiar, okay? She's definitely not lost.
((ooc: come at me with prose or bracket text, whichever suits your fancy o/))
OPTION B
And he never knew what became of Zelda. Was she doomed to wander as a spirit for the rest of eternity? Or had she ascended to a higher plane? He knew she couldn't have gotten her body back, not with the way things had been when he left.
But... when he saw her walking through the hallway of this very school in her body, not transparent, he merely stared wide-eyed for a moment. But no, it couldn't be her. It had to be another Zelda. There had been many Zeldas, many Links... It all seemed to be one cursed cycle across generations.
no subject
"Byrne?!"
Her incredulity echoes down the hallway, loud and obtrusive to her ears, and in her self-consciousness she covers her mouth with her hands, stepping back just once. The next phrase uttered is barely above a whisper.
"I don't understand..."
How? How is he here?! What forces could recall him from his... ascension with the other spirits? ("Death." She had almost thought "death." But that wasn't right, not according to Anjean, and the small comfort those words had brought was something Zelda held onto with all her might since then.) If this is some kind of joke, then it is a very cruel one.
no subject
So the two of them were equally shocked to see one another; it would almost be comical if not sad. And in another world, in another sense, Byrne would have wondered why Zelda was so shocked, but that barely mattered at the moment because he was surprised. She got her body back, and she remembered him, so clearly this all happened after he left Hyrule.
"Tell me: how did you get your body back?" It was the first thing he wanted to know. Because if she got her body back, then Hyrule was all right, right? He hoped. He would ask the other questions about the land afterwards.
no subject
Surely he's not just messing with her? She can't imagine Byrne is the type to torment someone in this way, though a small part of her worries that maybe he does blame her for his lost life... It doesn't occur to her that he could be asking because he doesn't know.
"You... protected me, covered for me while I concentrated on reclaiming my body, and then..." She bows her head. The part that comes next is far from easy to think about, let alone say aloud.
no subject
But all he could do was shake his head. He wasn't there. He didn't protect her at all. Part of him wished he had done so, because that would be the less cowardly thing to do, a way to atone for what he had done. Because... it was a sense of relief to see that Zelda had reclaimed the body that he had cruelly stolen from her, that Hyrule wasn't completely in ruin because of what he had done.
Maybe it was good that Byrne was in too much surprise to notice Zelda bowing her head or figure out the implications behind such.
"I left Hyrule well over a year ago," he said quietly. Could this be something with those skewed timelines? Nabooru was from several hundred years in Byrne's past, and there had been more than one Link here, all from different eras. Even so, it was so difficult to wrap his mind around, and he felt like he had back when he first arrived here, when he had found out about Nabooru's origins from the Old Hyrule.
no subject
To say that she is bewildered would be a vast understatement, and boy if watching him shake his head like that doesn't make her want to strangle him. A million thoughts are flying through her head, none of which are helpful in making sense of the situation. Why would he deny being there? Why does he seem so infuriatingly sure about it? Admittedly, it isn't difficult to imagine him denying any good deeds he committed, but to outright feign amnesia? That's just too bizarre. This whole situation is too bizarre.
no subject
"I saw you half a year ago, but it was in this school. I haven't left since then." Perhaps he was more calm about this whole thing because he realized that the timelines could go all over the place here. When he thought he had died in that ridiculous test chamber that robotic sphere had concocted, it had all turned out to be a product of faulty time streams.
"It's possible that.... the time stream has been altered." He wouldn't have believed such a thing himself, but it was something he had learned so very shortly after arriving here that he had to accept it. "There is a woman here. From Hyrule. The old Hyrule, the one under the sea. Likely from several hundred years in the past."
no subject
She doesn't feel half as dismissive as that sounded, much as she'd like to brush all this off as more nonsense. The problem is that his words don't exactly ring untrue to her. That he made mention of the old Hyrule at all was almost as big a shock as seeing him alive again. She wouldn't expect him to know of it- all she knew was the story her grandmother used to tell her, the legend of the Hero of Time, and that's hardly grounds for her to claim she'd recognize someone from that era straight off the bat.
The supposed existence of this "woman" lends credence to Byrne's suggestion, certainly, but... It's still a difficult concept for her to wrap her mind around.
"Hmm. So what you mean to tell me is that the source of our current confusion is a warped timeline?" She hadn't noticed it, but she'd begun to pace while she was thinking all this through. She stops at this point, turning to face him again. "That's what you would have me believe?"
no subject
"So you don't remember being here," he muttered. "More evidence to the timestreams messing up."
When she faced him, Byrne evaluated her briefly, noting that what he saw was indeed a solid body and not a transparent spirit. So Zelda really had her body back, and this was the Zelda he knew. Not some clone from some other generation. Unless there was another Byrne somewhere along the way, but he had no idea.
"It sounds convoluted and ridiculous, I know." He looked away again, feeling a semblance of guilt rise through his form, one that he felt every time he saw her. "I never believed it at first either."
no subject
"...Fine. I believe you."
no subject
Still... At least she had her body back. That meant that Byrne hadn't completely screwed everything up in Hyrule. But he had to know... what happened? Did they vanquish Malladus, or had she fled in as cowardly a fashion as he had?
He almost didn't want to know.
So then quietly, he finally asked: "What happened... to Malladus...?"
no subject
To his question, her grin turns rather wry.
"Oh, well, I'm not sure I should say! I wouldn't want to spoil the ending for you." She lets that hang in the air long enough to juuuust border on cruel, then continues. "I suppose I can at least say he was successfully defeated."
no subject
So it was like a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders when it was revealed that Malladus was successfully defeated. So the mistake that Byrne had made was fixed, for the most part. But it was possible that Malladus had killed or hurt many before being imprisoned once more. He almost didn't want to know.
So his expression softened a bit at that news, his eyes losing some of that coldness. But there were a few more things he had to find out about.
"And what of Cole?" And his voice grew quieter. "Or Anjean?"
no subject
"Cole was similarly defeated. Regarding Anjean's fate... I think she would prefer I withhold such information."
She smiles again, though her expression lacks any amusement or indication to tease.
"It isn't anything sad, but you are old friends, correct? I imagine she'd rather tell you herself. Considering this world's supposed propensity for warping timelines and pulling in both the willing and the not, it's not all that farfetched to think you'd get the chance. She also wished to have words with you, and I would hate to deprive her of any potential topics."
no subject
But Anjean...
That could mean anything, if she didn't want to tell Byrne of her fate. Is it possible... did Byrne injure her enough? No, he hadn't injured her that badly, but if someone else got a hold of her...
"Very well." Perhaps it was better not to know. But he felt a pang in his chest now - she could be gone and it could be all his fault. He turned his head now, unable to look at the princess once more. As if he knew.
A - backdated to earlier in the month? \o\
It was because the girl had been enrolled into the school (once again, apparently), before she even knew about it. And from where she had come from before arriving at the academy, there was little to no way of her knowing of such a thing beforehand. It was all so bizarre, and Ib wasn't without a worry in the pit of her stomach.
But she went along with... whatever it was, this sudden arrival at a new school, and she in time found her dorm room. She had been given a key and the room number, and she stood outside its door for a little while before deciding to... knock on the door.
Absolutely! Sorry for the late response, my internet was bizonkers this weekend.
Her reflex is to respond with a simple "you may enter," but she catches herself at the last second. This isn't her room at the castle, and the knocker is unlikely to be a guard asking permission to be there. In a case like this, that would be rude, right? She wouldn't want to chase off her potential guest! So she hops down from her seat, brushes the crinkles out of her dress, and makes her way to the door. Said door is swung open with little care as to who might be beyond it- Zelda isn't the type to assume there might be danger lurking around every corner.
"Good day! Is there anything I can help you with?"
No problem! \o\ Dumb internet.
"... I'm Ib. I'm your roommate."
Or so Ib hopes, and that she hadn't somehow gotten the wrong room. She didn't want that; it felt weird already to say that she had a roommate at all. But to give herself some reassurance, and to also give some proof to her words, Ib lifts up her hand with her copy of the room key in and, after a brief glance at it herself, she holds it out for Zelda to see. It comes with a tag with the room number, after all!
The dumbest. :<
A careless comment she hadn't meant to let slip. She spent such a long time as a ghost, where only a scant few could hear her, that she'd grown accustomed to speaking whatever opinions first came to mind. But really, this girl is her roommate? She was told this school, while an educational boon, was primarily a place where one learns to battle. But this Ib... No offense meant, but she hardly looks like she could scale beyond the level of a mere civilian.
Still, it's definitely rude to judge (and if anything, it only makes her judge the school itself rather than Ib), so she brushes the negative thoughts from her mind and shakes her head, looking apologetic.
"Ah, sorry, what am I saying? I can't be much older myself!" She backs up, opening the door all the way so she can come inside. "Please, come in. I wish I had some kind of food to offer, tea at least, but I'm afraid I haven't been here for very long, either."
True to her words, Zelda's side of the room hasn't been all that customized yet. She's been so busy, and she didn't want to pick out any curtains or rugs until she got her roommate's opinion on them... You know, all the typical excuses.
"I suppose this means we're both new, then? My name is Zelda, it's good to finally meet you."
no subject
But the remark didn't offend Ib, not in the least. She walks in once Zelda moves to allow her through, tucking the room key into the pocket of her skirt for safe keeping.
The room was nothing like her own room, nor like any others she had been in. That was obvious; this was a room for school... like a boarding school, right? Ib had heard of those. Schools that children stayed in because they were far away from home.
But Ib hadn't been going to one of those, and the only time she had never slept in her home had been during sleepovers and in holiday homes. Was she really going to be staying here? It was... kinda scary to think about.
And right after such misadventures.
Unintentionally, Ib's quiet, unresponsive to the words spoken to her as she stands staring to the bed with familiar-looking suitcases on them, red with white and black cute bunnies dotted around them. She had felt tired before, but the sight of the beds didn't invite Ib to them at all.
She doesn't want to be in this place...
no subject
Not difficult to figure out which of the two was more likely.
"You look about as thrilled to be here as I was when I first arrived. Were you also brought here against your will?"
no subject
... Maybe in a different universe.
Ib caught Zelda's words this time, and she turned away from the sight of the suitcases on the bed to the one of the young girl that was her roommate, looking at her a little before she answered her, somewhat hesitantly, with a nod.
But there was some confusion there for Ib in those words that she hadn't missed -- the ones that clearly stated that Zelda hadn't come to this school by choice. Ib wouldn't have thought it at all, even with as out of place Zelda looked in comparison to what Ib knew as... 'in place'.
Yet for the brief moment Ib wondered if they had come here under the same way, the thought did sink a little.
"... are you far from home?"
