Dorm Log The Sequel To End All Sequels

Who: COLLECTIVE YOU
What: Dorm log!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. If your heart dreams it, your fingers can type it.
When: The span of February 27 - March 13
Warnings: This log is yellow-taped with all kinds of potential warnings. If your filthy imagination can conjure it, this log can produce it.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's how this works. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. Feel like drawing graffiti on Professor Jin's door? Apologizing for the aftermath of the latest cupidbot fiasco? Doing each others' hair and talking about boys? Giving your trusted(?!?) friends a free ride in the dryer? Staying up late at night making use of those dick-shaped cake pans you found in the cupboard? Man, I don't care, just do it! Don't let this log get away untagged.

Nableroo - TD-11

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-02-27 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[She doesn't spend much time in her room, admittedly, and for no particular reason, at that. A lot of her time is spent in her classroom, fixing up curriculum and dancing. She practises with her blades outside, and the archery range is one of her favourite places to be.

In short, she may not be as easy to find as some, but she's certainly around, and hard to miss, at that.]

[personal profile] notstevejobs 2013-03-01 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
What is Apple Kid doing at the archery range?

And how did a 1/4-scale sized Tyrannosaurus Rex statue get placed in the middle of the archery range?

And why is there a large bowl of queso fresco being held in the tiny, tiny hands of the T-Rex statue?
thedesertrose: (silhouettes → the sage has arrived!)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-01 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
What happened to this archery range...? Nabooru simply stands and stares, bow strung over her shoulder. Why is there a dinosaur in the middle? And why does it have... Is that cheese dip?

Really?

"Well, no one ever said targets had to be conventional," she says as she pulls up her bow, strings it with an arrow, and stands ever poised to let it fly.
notstevejobs: (Gendo Kid)

[personal profile] notstevejobs 2013-03-01 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Ms. Nabooru," said Apple Kid, walking up to her. "I appreciate your cooperation in this exciting scientific experiment."
thedesertrose: (serious → follow my orders)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-07 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
"H-huh? What?"

It was a good way to break her conversation. She almost immediately brought down her bow and arrow and when she found Apple Kid, she simply stared at him. No. She hadn't forgotten him, and that kid had been there longer than she had. Talk about commitment.

"What the hell are you talking about?" she asked, cocking an eyebrow in his direction.
notstevejobs: (Gerber Baby Stare)

[personal profile] notstevejobs 2013-03-07 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I believe that I have invented untargetable cheese," replied the youthful inventor. "It should be impossible to it the cheese with a projectile weapon. Please, try to hit it with your arrow. I will study the reaction from behind my Science Screen."

He pointed to a sheet of plexiglass taped up between two garbage cans.

"I'll be recording it from there."
thedesertrose: (doubt → some things are unexpected)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-07 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
...
How did she get herself into this kind of crap? Nabooru wasn't really fond of being anyone's guinea pig. Even FOR SCIENCE. It took a few moments of her staring at him, not even moving a muscle as he relocated. It was a pretty... poor looking shelter he had.

"Wait a second. Why are you going to hide? What is going on here that I don't know about? Have you programed this cheese to explode all over the person who tries to target it?" Because like hell was she going to willingly walk into a trap like that.
notstevejobs: (Nonplussed Apple Kid)

[personal profile] notstevejobs 2013-03-07 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not hiding, I'm observing. My recording equipment is in the trash cans. I need to be there to operate it. Nothing will explode, unless you have exploding arrows," explained Apple Kid sagely.
thedesertrose: (skeptical → you're kidding me)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-11 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
She wasn't buying it. Nabooru squinted and she turned to better eye him with that suspicious glint adorning her gaze. "I get all of the observation. I just don't get what the screen is for." Unless that had something to do with his recording equipment, because Nabooru was going to be the first to admit that she had no idea how audio and video capture devices worked.
notstevejobs: (CREEPY)

[personal profile] notstevejobs 2013-03-11 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Observation information enhancement," replied Apple Kid. "Here, come stand behind it and watch as I turn it on."
thedesertrose: (focused → nothing more than an obstacle)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-12 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
In other words, foreign words. Nabooru simply stared at him for a few moments. Then she moved from where she stood, strung her bow back over her shoulder carefully and held the arrow she'd meant to fire at a standstill for the time being. She moved where he'd told her to and furrowed her eyebrows.

"Mmkay," she began. "I'm ready. Do this thing. Whatever that means."
notstevejobs: (Gendo Kid)

[personal profile] notstevejobs 2013-03-12 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
And so Apple Kid pushed a button, and suddenly every object seen through the screen had a series of numbers next to them. "Right now I'm tracking acceleration and velocity," said Apple Kid. "That's why most of the numbers are near zero, but those birds over there," and here he pointed to a couple of sparrows flying in the distance, "you can see have a velocity of 29.33333 feet per second, and are accelerating at .04 feet per second. It can also measure spacial distance, size, weight, and any number of other things."
thedesertrose: (ambitious → in the direction of dawn)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-15 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
She squinted as she tried to focus. Admittedly, the gaggle of numbers easily threw her off, but fortunately Apple Kid was willing to actually explain everything that was happening. Not that it really helped her understand, but it was better than him just pushing her into things and leaving her hanging.

Nabooru turned her attention onto the sparrows he pointed out and nodded very slowly. Then she settled her gaze back onto his face. "Are you testing the velocity of my arrows, then?" Because while she didn't know much about speed, she did seem to believe that it was difficult to picture her arrows picking up acceleration while in motion. But what did she really know.

[ Furiae hadn't meant to intrude, or to spy. She had simply been walking, an activity she took to when she no longer wished to stay inside her room or go to the library. She disliked the amount of time she spent inside, though the past few months had been more eventful than they had been before. Learning sewing and construction of garments had been something new, but she had found it as of late difficult to concentrate for too long...

Upon taking a stroll after such a time, the young woman had spotted her dancing teacher accidentally with her blades. It was a surprise for her to see, not truly knowing much about the instructor. Had there ever been a chance for her to get to know her more? Perhaps, but even if there had, Furiae rarely took such chances with anyone. She had never been an introverted child, but history had maybe changed her into such a person, and the woman she was now had trouble removing that away from herself.

But it wasn't due to shyness or any kind of reservations that Furiae didn't speak out to Nabooru when coming across her. She didn't want to disturb the woman and her concentration- but she didn't continue on her way out of an interest for what she saw. Furiae knew the dancing teacher as a knowledgeable woman- certainly more knowing in different types of dancing than she did. The classes at the beginning had been tiring for her, but she had found herself becoming more used to them. Or so she thought, at least. ]

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-15 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Nabooru rarely broke out her swords unless the weather was warm. Mostly... because winter really didn't settle in well with her. The Gerudo despised snow and cold environments as a whole and because of it, she'd scarcely shown herself when classes weren't in session. With spring around the corner and undeniably sunnier days, she'd found a little more of her enjoyment and focus in practising her technique.

One never knew when she'd be called back to Hyrule to fulfill her 'destiny,' according to the Goddess of the Sand. Becoming the Sage of Spirit was something that sat easily in her mind and never really let go. And for that reason alone, she had every notion to take advantage of the time she was given. Ganondorf could not be successful and she could not allow him to be, despite her personal feelings for her king.

No matter how easily she was drawn into the world of thrusts, vertical strikes, and parries against an invisible opponent, Furiae's presence had not escaped her eye. Finally taking the time to address her, she stood firmly, lowering her swords, and giving the aspiring 'dancer' a confident smile.]

You've been staring for a while. You want a sword lesson or two?
stillawoman: (pic#5370633)

[personal profile] stillawoman 2013-03-15 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
[ Furiae's cheeks did warm when the words were spoken to her, as well as from the smile of her teacher. Her head lowered momentarily, apologetic, and fingers brushed shyly against her lips before the hand paused by her chest, curled into an open ball. Furiae then took some steps forward, as if coming out from a hiding place, yet it had not been in such a discreet way that the young woman had been watching. ]

N-no, thank you... [ She gave Nabooru a polite bow, then looked to her dance teacher. ] I am sorry... I did not mean to be so rude. I did not want to disturb you by speaking.
thedesertrose: (listening → wasting her time)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-17 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Nabooru shifted in favor of resting the flat of her sword to her shoulder and she closed the distance between instructor and pupil. Watching Furiae all the while, she couldn't help but wonder what made the girl so bashful. But Nabooru had never really known her very well, but had never particularly treated her with dislike. On the same note, she'd never given Furiae any special attention either, but now it seemed she had the opportunity to.]

You don't need to do that. [Nabooru motioned to her bowing.] That's for royalty and I'll be the first to admit that there's not a noble bone in my body. [Then she rolled her shoulders in an idle shrug.] You're worrying too much. I was just practising some technique. I don't really get an opportunity to use my swords much. If at all, actually. It's nice to break them in and make sure I still know how to use them.
stillawoman: (pic#4985462)

[personal profile] stillawoman 2013-03-17 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The comment of royalty confused Furiae, but it quickly came to her what Nabooru referred to by it. Perhaps it was only a common gesture for royalty and nobility, but it was part of her etiquette that Furiae found hard to let go of, no matter the possible standing of the person that received it.

But for her teacher, Furiae would try to remember the preference. For the future. ]

I have not seen a person wield two blades before... it surprised me to see you practice so. Is it a more common style of swordsmanship, in the land that you come from?
thedesertrose: (smug → all-knowing)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-22 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, then. The girl in white was far more innocent than Nabooru had imagined. How did such purity exist? Even for spending her entire life in the desert - the academy aside - Nabooru wasn't living under a rock. What a protective little shelter Furiae must have been staying in.

After getting over her initial surprise, her posture relaxed. She stepped back and chose to demonstrate, extending the lines of her arms and showing off her blades.]

My people are trained in various weapons, depending on our ranks in society. Our guardians of the fortress I was born in use polearms on their patrols. I was trained in swords and archery. Those I know in the desert with swords are capable of dual wielding. It is a display of offensive maneuvers and while some feel it leaves one open to attack, if you are capable of moving quickly, evasion, and parrying, then two swords is as effective as one sword and a shield.

[A pause.] If not more so.
stillawoman: (pic#5370654)

[personal profile] stillawoman 2013-03-26 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A group of people who were trained in weaponry - depending, Nabooru said, but Furiae wasn't sure she had heard of such a thing before in her life. A fortress of such people; briefly, it reminded the princess stories of bandits with the mention of such a structure, but she rid it from her mind. Such a barbaric view was unkind, and showed to herself how little she knew of the world.

Which was true, unfortunately. She knew of the lands around Caerleon, she knew of... religion. Of duty. Her duty. To the world, to god.

... Whatever knowledge she once had of the world was long gone, discarded out of her mind through a lack of care for it, as well as much else she had been taught in her childhood. ]

You come from a land unlike this one... but I have not heard of such a society in my own. But... I am ignorant of what the world once was, and what is has become...

[ Her eyes glanced away, downward, at admitting that. Never had she had to think about that... about the world around her, how it had once been when Caerleon had still been a kingdom. To have that all torn away... yet in those days, she knew that she only looked at the world with her own selfish heart. Nothing had mattered to her but her own concerns.

She looked back to Nabooru, having only for a moment paused. ]
Did you come to this school by your own choice...?
thedesertrose: (ganondorf → with every breath)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-27 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Furiae was thinking a lot. Nabooru didn't have to be a genius to put that much together. In earnest, the Gerudo could have said a lot more. It was easy to make her kind sound simple, but when one really got to the nitty gritty of it all, nothing in Hyrule was simple, and the people were no different. Cultures and societies dictated this and that. Nabooru was no princess, but she supposed she was her own kind of royalty, and that was complication enough.

Furiae's question did render from her a rather apparent pause. Not the question itself, but rather all of the feelings that welled up with it. She'd never forgotten her arrival or why she'd come, or how different she'd been at the time. No regard for anyone other than Ganondorf and herself, and a little after that, the only person she seemed to care about was herself.

She'd changed so much.]

Yes. [The answer was rather simply said before she chose to elaborate.] I came here to support my king, the leader of my people. Those days are far back within my past, however. I think on them occasionally, but not often.

And what about you? I've heard some don't get a say. I'm sure I've even known a few who didn't get the option.
stillawoman: (pic#5370590)

[personal profile] stillawoman 2013-03-27 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A king- and from that changed the image of this fortress in Furiae's mind. How confusing it was, and how evident it was the princess had never had to consider foreign powers too closely. Though she knew some of the neighbouring kingdoms, it was not much - and at her young age, her largest thoughts of them were the worries that she would have to one day leave her home of Caerleon to go to one of them, such as was the political obligation of any princess. But with Inuart...

But her mind did not linger for more than a moment on thoughts as to the teacher's origins, the question provided back to Furiae now at the forefront. Her expression shifted, though it was already only a neutral one than a happy one. ]

No... I did not choose to come here. It was beyond my power...

[ Entirely, and something Furiae thought even beyond the power of God, or more akin to dark crafts. Those nights when she had first arrived to this place, the dreams of that last moment- she could still feel the loss of herself, and how unbearable the pain had been to her body. She had lost her place as the Goddess in being reborn, but still the pain that had burdened her for years did not diminish from her mind so easily.

There was a short pause - she in no way wanted to speak of her state before her arrival, not so casually - before Furiae decided to speak further. ]

I came from the land of Caerleon, far from this one... I hear others speak of different realms and worlds, and... portals, that bring people to this city and school.

It was once a kingdom, Caerleon... but it was unable to recover from the loss of its king and queen...

[ Her words at the end had grown softer and softer, unaware to Furiae, who felt as if she was speaking of an event that had no concern to her. But it wasn't true, and she could not hide that. ]
thedesertrose: (commanding → listen up; boys)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-03-30 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Furiae was a little transparent. Even as Nabooru's eyebrows knit together, it didn't seem to take much in the way of observance to figure that the little lady was easily consumed by thought. Maybe she had a lot to think about. Maybe she just took things too seriously. But the Gerudo couldn't stand there and judge because she just didn't know. And if it was complicated at all, she really didn't want to know.

Instead, she focused on what she was given, rather than the things she didn't know and could only speculate.]

Sounds... heavy.

[Because she didn't know how else to put that. Furiae almost seemed distraught over the concept, though, and not ready to have such a heart-to-heart discussion with a student she didn't know very well, Nabooru thought it wiser to turn to greener pastures.]

You're here now, though. This academy is great. The people are great. If you came here entirely by accident, maybe that's Fate's way of saying you belong here. I doubt it happened just to happen. You're here for a reason.

[She tried to give a reassuring smile, but considering Nabooru was more the sort to look smug or to smirk, she was pretty sure her attempt was a fruitless one.]
stillawoman: (pic#5074980)

[personal profile] stillawoman 2013-03-30 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ Fortunately, Furiae had no wish to indulge further into the past than she already had. Those stays still clung to her incessantly, haunting her, sitting heavy in her heart; and Furiae was not blind to how even the most simplest of words left her feeling weak.

But for how easily such a subject could show her weakness, Furiae's face picked up soon after Nabooru's words, and she nodded in agreement to her. She pulled her lips into an expression akin to a smile; polite, but without cheer. ]

Yes... I am fortunate to be here, in many ways. [ a pause. ] Did you find a reason to stay here, beyond support for your king...?
thedesertrose: (sly → not wearing any panties)

[personal profile] thedesertrose 2013-04-03 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[The question was more than worth of some thought on Nabooru's part. The first thing she thought of was Shinon. Yes. She had found a reason to stay. And she continued to find a reason to stay. Even after leaving to return home, she still managed to find a reason to come back. That had to mean something.

In spite of how part of it was the very concept that Nabooru knew she had to take advantage of all the time she had before Fate would have its way with her. She had to make sure her life meant something and there was no more powerful incentive.]

I found a lot of reasons to stay here. I have friends here. I have family. And I think those are reason enough. I've made an existence here. It'd be a shame if I let it go so easily.
