Dorm Log The Sequel To End All Sequels

Who: COLLECTIVE YOU
What: Dorm log!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. If your heart dreams it, your fingers can type it.
When: The span of February 27 - March 13
Warnings: This log is yellow-taped with all kinds of potential warnings. If your filthy imagination can conjure it, this log can produce it.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's how this works. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. Feel like drawing graffiti on Professor Jin's door? Apologizing for the aftermath of the latest cupidbot fiasco? Doing each others' hair and talking about boys? Giving your trusted(?!?) friends a free ride in the dryer? Staying up late at night making use of those dick-shaped cake pans you found in the cupboard? Man, I don't care, just do it! Don't let this log get away untagged.

Rolls eyes. Punches Ishimaru through screen.

Alter Ego hummed, trying to think of something noteworthy to inform its company of.

"I'm fine! Hmm... I'm sure I've learned something new today," it replied, considering some of the projects it had going on in the background. If... browsing the network and watching how people at Smash Academy interacted counted as learning, it had been doing a whole lot of that lately. "I've been watching the network and looking at some of the information stored in the archives... Eheh, it's actually very interesting to look into."

wipes sass.exe from harddrive

The archives... Ishimaru wondered how many years's worth of network posts there had to be on the computers. Would it be useful for him to go back and look through them all? He probably wouldn't have the time, even if he wanted to.

"Is that so? Then you must already know about machines becoming human here..."

Maybe Alter Ego had seen his post about Vivian, then. Shoot, he was all excited to tell it in person...

Hey I still needed that...

"Hmm... Oh! Yes, I saw some students talking about that," Alter Ego replied, blinking at the turn of their conversation. "Is that what you wanted to tell me about today? If I'm being honest... I still don't truly understand how machines can become human..."
forgetbeam: (...I have no idea!)

"To tell you the truth... I haven't been able to figure out how such a thing is possible, either."

He sure wished he could stop thinking about how anything in this school was possible... It led absolutely nowhere but a chronic headache. There were probably other contributing factors...

"However, I do know that the Headmasters possess a disk that can do it!" He made sure to ask them and everything! Which was kind of a big deal, since the idea of school headmasters made him considerably more agitated than they used to. Even though these ones seemed benevolent, if not weird as hell.

He clasped the edge of the table the laptop sat on, staring very intently at the screen. "What do you think? ...Would it be useful for you to try it?"

"E-Eh? You did that... for me?" Alter Ego looked taken aback, flattered that someone would go out of their way to do something for it. "A disk... ... Maybe, in that case, it might work, huh?"

After a few more seconds devoted to thought, Alter Ego nodded its head with an eager smile. "Okay! I'd love to try, Ishimaru...!"

It was always gratifying to be able to a fellow student's day, but there was a special kind of satisfaction from hearing Alter Ego's approval of his idea.

"Excellent! I'll go get the disk right away!"

He caught himself just in time to avoid saying something as foolish as wait here before he left, since it wasn't like Alter Ego had much of a choice until he got back anyway...

"Okay...! I'll be right here until your return." Y'know, because computers can just get up and walk away...

Wow. Once Ishimaru left, Alter Ego dedicated some thought to the concept of being able to... become not just a program, but a physical being! Something that could be seen in the physical world. What doors would that open for it? AE could definitely see the benefits in being able to actually go places - like classes. What else would it be able to do as a human? The possibilities were endless, but Alter Ego wasn't sure it could actually fathom entirely what it would be like. After all, it had never been anything but a program before. The experience would be an entirely new one.

Oh, no... What about walking? As it contemplated the future of its possible physical existence, it wondered how difficult simple tasks might prove to be with a hint of anxiety. When Ishimaru was to return, it made a note to itself to observe the way he walked so that it might be able to copy that, at least for now. It might prove to be more difficult than anticipated... So many other things it might have to consider, too.
forgetbeam: (I'm going to stare a hole into your head)

It was about eleven minutes before he returned, a cd case in one hand and an orange wearing small plastic shades and a party hat in the other. He didn't know what the Headmaster's brother's deal was, or what he was supposed to do with a gift like this, but it would be bad form to throw it out in public... Besides, it seemed perfectly edible beneath the decorations, so maybe he should eat it...

Anyway, that wasn't important right now.

"Here it is!" He opened up the case, frowning a little at the contents. The last time he saw an unmarked disk like this did not go very well. This is something entirely different, he scolded himself.

"...Should I just put it in?"

"That would be fine, I think," responded Alter Ego, studying the disk in Ishimaru's hand.

So it would be a program on a disk that could turn another program into a human? Who could possibly make such a program? Somehow, Alter Ego wasn't sure it could work on another program such as itself. But it was worth a try.

"At least we can see what it does, right...?"

"Right! Let's try it!"

It was a little silly to be so hesitant about doing something as simple as pushing the button to open the laptop's CD drive, but there was a second of uncertainty nonetheless. There was something in the back of his mind that compelled him to take the utmost care of this machine, even though the dents and scratches already proved that it could take a beating and stay functional.

He gently slipped the disk into the slot, making brief eye contact with the monitor before sliding it closed.
numbercrunching: ɪᴄᴏɴ: <user name="criticalhit"> (015)

At least it was the disk and not anything else this time... Or we can just pretend disks=dicks

[personal profile] numbercrunching 2013-03-15 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Upon receiving the disk, Alter Ego gave Ishimaru a reassuring smile before shutting its eyes and reading the program. It was the most peculiar disk, really... Though Alter Ego wanted to read the properties of the program before it ran it, the disk would not betray such information to Alter Ego before forcing it to run the program. It opened its eyes once again, startled.

But before it could say anything else, the computer poofed into... Well, the best way to describe it was like an altered image of Chihiro Fujisaki sitting upon a table, its legs dangling off the edge. Its hair color was a bit less of a light brown and had a greenish tint (as did the rest of its features), and its eyes were a bright green rather than a soft brown.

The laptop was completely missing, but immediately noticeable were features of Alter Ego's that indicated that the laptop had been combined with its appearance: it looked like it had been in a nasty fight or something. Perhaps the worst part was that it bore a crack that looked as though it had been hit in the head - hard. In fact, its appearance looked just about as worse for wear as the laptop did, but at least Alter Ego didn't look like it was in any pain. Just... bewilderment.

"Is... Is it okay...?" DID IT WORK? This was kind of a startling moment for Alter Ego because wow, it did not expect everything to happen like this.
forgetbeam: (Say it one more time)

what is a disk if not a metaphor for a dick

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-03-18 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ishimaru had prepared himself for the possibility of Alter Ego resembling Chihiro - after all, its avatar on the screen was similarities its creator, so it only made sense that any human form it took would be the same. What he was not prepared for were the traces of the laptop's damage that carried over to this form.

He stared at the crack in the side of its head (blood running down the victim's dented skull, dripping down his neck and down beneath his girl's uniform), a lump forming in his throat. Why... Why did it have to be that...? He didn't want to think about that murder or the trial that followed, but the more he tried not to the stronger the memory was. He pulled his gaze away and looked down to Alter Ego's shoes, the part furthest from the head (feet limply dangling inches above the floor) but that didn't help things either.

No, it's not okay!

He shut his eyes tightly took a sharp breath. Focus! This was for Alter Ego's sake as a student. But was that crack really alright?

"That depends. How... How do you feel?"

THIS WHOLE TIME...? D-DAMMIT...

[personal profile] numbercrunching 2013-03-18 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Unfamiliar coordination... All of these foreign human senses were overwhelming to the program, but at the same time, it had prepared itself for this. Still, being in the heat of it all didn't mean that it would come out perfectly adjusted. It was all really strange... Even Ishimaru looked different to it now that it wasn't in the computer. He had dimension, or... something. Everything looked off. But this was probably how everything was meant to look, in real life!

Alter Ego was gawking Ishimaru and at everything else around it. Slow and unsure, it lifted its hands and tilted its head to look at its new body. What it saw was... odd. It was shocking to behold, this body that looked like Fujisaki's. That, too, was expected. Of course. But it still didn't fail to astound Alter Ego. And its hands... They were splotched with something. It folded its hands together and rubbed a thumb awkwardly against its forefinger, wondering if the dark splotches would come off. But no luck.

"I feel fine, I think," it said, looking back up to Ishimaru. "It's just... I-I'm not used to all of this... Not yet."

"Even your head? Your head is alright?"

Of course it was. It was just a visual representation of the crack. Nobody had actually bashed Alter Ego's head in. Right?

Besides Monobear.

The hurt was so nonexistent that Alter Ego even lifted its hand to check its head for some sort of problem. It couldn't figure out what the matter was.

"Eh? My head? ...I don't feel any pain," said Alter Ego simply, pressing its fingers lightly against its head. "Is... there something wrong with it?"

Well that isn't something you hear everyday like that.

"There is?!" it cried. It was about to be more surprised about this and possibly worry, but if it couldn't feel it, then what was the matter? What was pain supposed to feel like, anyway? "Nnnh... I'm not sure if I feel it or not anymore... I'm starting to doubt myself..."

"No, you would definitely know if you could feel it!"

Right? Was that how computers worked? Then again, Vivian still couldn't tell when she felt hungry or cold, no matter how many times he tried to remind her that shivering and/or growling stomachs usually meant something was wrong. But a huge gaping head wound would definitely be affecting Alter Ego if it was something serious...

He couldn't pull his gaze away from it.

"It isn't bleeding, so.. I think it will be fine... There is no need to worry!"

Not that it would stop him...

"Let's focus on how your body works for you, instead. Can you move all of your limbs?" Hands and arms seemed fine, at least.

Oh, no... Alter Ego nodded determinedly, but it could just feel it. What if it didn't perform well? Over the past few weeks it had tried to figure out how to adapt to the student life, but only moments ago did it consider that it would need to learn to walk, too...

Alter Ego tried to slide itself forward from the table with its hands. Maneuvering itself was a lot harder than it first seemed, though; its face screwed up when it tried to push itself off the table. The problem was that it just couldn't seem to muster enough strength to even lift itself with its hands, but it should have been easy!

"S-Sorry... This, umm... This is a lot harder at first than I thought... Please give me a moment..."
forgetbeam: (Feeling pretty good)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-03-27 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't apologize!! It's to be expected that there would be difficulty in doing something for the very first time! Even humans take the first few years of their life learning how to move! Fortunately, you are already doing better than an infant... But I expect it will still take some time."

How long, though? He wasn't sure how long Vivian had been in her human form before learning how to walk - she was already patrolling and sticking guns in peoples' faces when he met her. But it couldn't be that long...

He'd have to put more research into this and see what he could do to help Alter Ego adjust. For now, all he could offer was encouragement.

"Just focus on the small movements and build your way up from there! I am here to help if you need it."

"O-Okay... Thank you, Ishimaru...! I'll keep trying." His encouragement definitely helped the AI, and Alter Ego decided to keep going at it. Step one: it needed to get off the table. That was its first goal. If it could just get off the desk...

Momentum. That's how this would work.

forgetbeam: (Default)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-04-05 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah-!"

A little too much momentum, there. Ishimaru immediately bent over to hoist Alter Ego up as gently as he could (which was still not exactly tender and delicate, but he was making an effort, at least).

"Remember to take it slowly! ...Are you alright?"
other_i: ᴀʀᴛɪsᴛ: pixiv id=1536828 (shocker)

[personal profile] other_i 2013-04-05 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Alter Ego inhaled sharply, a miserable expression adorning its features. "Y-Yeah...! Sorry... I'll try harder," it said, supporting itself against the table to keep itself standing, along with Ishimaru's help.

This was a strange feeling, and being a person was sort of tough. It stood with crooked knees and looked down at its form, then at the hall monitor's. If it wanted to do this right, maybe it could stand straight and tall, the way Ishimaru might stand. Yeah, if it could just copy somebody's posture, that could make it easier, right? So it shuffled one foot next to the other, keeping its gaze fixed on Ishimaru's feet until its own shoes clicked together.

Perfect! It finally mastered the art of standing. Well... with some support, sure. Alter Ego straightened out its back and looked up to Ishimaru. "Is this good?"
forgetbeam: (Am I a badass yet)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-04-08 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ishimaru crossed his arms while he watched Alter Ego's gradual mimicry of his own posture. When he realized what it was doing, he uncrossed his arms immediately and stood as properly as he could. If it was going to be learning the basics from him, he had to set the best possible example.

There was something satisfying in knowing that he was helping in some small way to shape Alter Ego's future as a human being. At the same time, that kind of responsibility had to be treated carefully. Maybe it was something like parenting, not that he remembered too much from his own toddler years.

"Yes! That's very good! A proper posture like that is important! Not only will it keep your spine in top condition, but carrying yourself upright will also do wonders to boost your confidence and strengthen your soul!"

Did computers even have souls. Ishimaru was certain that in cases like these, they had to.

Boost your confidence and strengthen your soul? The way Ishimaru said it made it sound so promising. Alter Ego stared up at him in wonder. Would it look so confident, too? Maybe standing straight and tall was the way to be! Alter Ego knew that Fujisaki would be proud, and that was good enough. It smiled at Ishimaru.

"I'll remember that," it replied, beaming. "Th-thank you for your advice, Ishimaru-kun...! Eheheh... I'm glad I have someone like you to look out for me."

Again, it readjusted its posture to imitate Ishimaru's a bit more closely. "I'm... I'm ready to try walking, I think." In a way, this was just a warning. It remembered how Ishimaru walked in, but if moving in general was more difficult than it first seemed, walking was sure to be lots of fun.
