Pokemon! Genie! Kanto? It's a thing that's happening!

The train ride from FDC was always pretty pleasant. The scenery was nice and it was a fairly long ride which allowed time for both gazing out the window at things flying by and also napping. Sonny, of course, insisted it was his treat whenever the snack trolley rolled past. The snack lady on the train had never made so much in one shift before...

...anyway. Kanto in Summertime is a wonderful place. The sun is shining, the Pidgey are Shin--er, singing, the Rattata are looking at their masses of squabbling children and regretting each and every life choice that led them to this moment. Today, they are joined by a portly, young, blue haired gentleman and his beautiful purple haired companion who just so happens to be a Genie.

"So! This is Pallet!" he said, turning to her and grinning. "I know it doesn't look like much, but it's a great place!"

"Some mustard, thanks," she replied, watching him work his sandwitchcraft. Those were big sandwiches. How were they supposed to fit those in their mouths?

"Well, why don't you get a sleeping bag and come sleep inside? Or on the couch? I'm sure Red's Mom won't mind," she said. "She DOES know you can humanize, right?"

"Good choice!" he replied, slathering a liberal helping of mustard on one piece of bread. (Actually, whichever choice she'd made would have been a good choice. Mustard or mayo hardly gives you room to make a bad one.)

"Ohhh, hey, I hadn't thought of that." Sonny said, looking over at the couch. "Yeah, you know? Probably I could sleep there. I guess you can take the Snorlax out of the wilderness, but the wilderness is a little tougher to take out of the Snorlax! Haha! Yeah, I'll sleep inside, then."

"I have great problem solving skills," she reminded him with a big smile. "If Red's Mom doesn't mind me sleeping in his room, she surely won't mind you sleeping on the couch!"

"Probably not!" Sonny replied, putting the final touch on her sandwich and sliding the plate over the table to her. "Heeere you go! Order up!" (It was ginormous. Most people could not eat this sandwich in one sitting. Are you a bad enough babe to rescue the Preside--er, eat this sandwich?)

"We can go check out the baby Pokémon at the Lab, and we could also go to the beach at the south end of town! It's small, but it's pretty and we can go swimming there?"

Shantae was probably not a bad enough dude to eat this sandwich in one sitting. But she was going to try.

"Sounds great to me," she said, taking a bite of sandwich. "There's a beach here? Great! I even brought a bikini just in case!" she announced proudly.

It was pretty much the ultimate sandwich.

"It's not too huge, so, I hope you aren't disappointed!" Sonny replied. "But the air here is really clear and you can see for miles - You should be able to spot some of the little Islands between here and Cinnibar to the south!"

"Doesn't matter if it's big as long as it's a nice swimming spot," Shantae said. "Nothing will compare to back home. Scuttle Town is all beachfront! I've been swimming almost as long as I could walk."

"Oh! Wow, that's so cool - I really love the beach! I think most people do, really. But I've always enjoyed it - it's so different to the mountains! And your home sounds especially exciting!"

"It is! If you don't mind the occasional monster attack," Shantae said, taking another bite of the monster sandwich. "Tell me something, are your lunches always this... sizable?"

"I was made for occasional monster attacks!" Sonny replied. He literally was, too. To both defend against and provide them, no less!

"Oh, well, sure - if it's too big, you could save some for later? Just wrap it in foil or something! It should keep OK for a little bit!"

"I think I'm gonna have to," she said with a laugh. "My stomach's not as big as yours! Er, you know what I mean," she added quickly, catching herself.

"Don't worry - by the time I'm done feeding you, you'll have an appetite to match mine." He reassured her. "Even if you don't get the stomach to go with it." he said, poking his own belly.

"I'd better not," she smirked. "I mean, look at this dancer's body I've got here!" she laughed, bumping her hip a bit. "Takes hard work to look this good all the time."

"It's definitely... well, I bet it really does take a lot of work! But it pays off!"

It's definitely a lovely body! had been his initial thought but he didn't want her to think he was creepy or anything. (The conversation about Ammo Baron had definitely cemented that in his mind: Keep it civil! Not that he had to work hard to do this. But still.)

"Darn right it does!" she answered, setting down the sandwich when she'd had enough. So far he'd been doing everything right. He was a perfect gentleman, and she appreciated it.

"So! Shall we get going?" she asked.

Sonny slugged down the last few bites of his sandwich and then dabbed at the corners of his mouth with a paper napkin.

"Yeah! Lets! Oh, hold on..."

He ran back to the fridge and rummaged around for a second before bringing out two cans.

"Do you like lemonade? Got to have something to wash that down with! And I'll wrap the rest of your sandwich too and write your name on the foil so no-one else eats it."

He'd made it for her, after all. The secret ingredient was love awkward crushing.

"Sure thing! I love lemonade," she replied, taking the can from him and taking a sip. "So these baby Pokemon. What kind are they? Are they nice?" she asked curiously.

"Bulbasaurs, Charmanders and Squirtles!" Sonny replied, getting the foil out and carefully tearing a piece. "They're all nice when they're little, yeah! They're the three starter Pokémon of Kanto! I hear they're also kind of popular in Kalos and even have different evolutions there or something."

So weird.

He wrapped the sandwich and wrote 'Sahntae's! Please don't eat! I love you Red's Mom! This is Sonny! =D' on it.

"If you ever met Vinnie or Bulba, they were Bulbasaurs once. Char and Riwane were once Charmanders. Maybe you met my little brother Marie? He was a Squirtle at school and then a Wartortle. So they're species you may have met, sort of!"

"I don't remember Marie, but Vinnie and Bulba are familiar. I get you."

She finished off her drink and set the can down.

"Well! Let's not keep 'em waiting, huh?" she asked with a big smile.

"You got it!" Sonny said, putting her sandwich in the fridge... and grabbing a bag of apples while he was in there.

"Something for us to eat on the way!"

To. The building that was within sight of the house they were... currently in...

"All starter Pokémon in every region are fire, water and grass and they all have three evolutions. Kanto is the only place where they're all reptiles, though!"

"You're certainly a fountain of knowledge," Shantae laughed as they set off for the lab, shutting the door behind them. "So you said you weren't from this city. Where were you from originally?" she asked, walking in pace beside him, arms crossed behind her head.

Sonny locked up and put the key back where he'd found it.

"I come from the mountains!" Sonny replied, looking around for a second. "I've never tried to see if I can spot my home range from Pallet... which I can't." he decided after a moment. "But! It's north-east from here! There's a city called Celadon with a HUUUUGR department store? And it's just north of there. I used to live alone there, just eating pine trees and bamboo and stuff."

Shantae smirked a bit at his humorous admission. "Pine trees and bamboo? How the heck did you ever survive?" she asked him, poking at his stomach. "I can't imagine you without a huge sandwich in your hand!" she teased with a laugh as they finally arrived at the doors to the lab.

"We don't have a lot of time here, and it sure sounds like there's a lot of ground to cover," Shantae said. "But that definitely sounds like an interesting sight to see! But that's the problem with visiting another country, so much to see, so little time."

"Trust me, it isn't easy OR fun OR tasty. But if you live in the mountains and that's all that's there..." he replied with a shrug. "Sandwiches are great, though. And Pizza. Burritos. I wouldn't want to live alone in the mountains again."

He opened the door to the lab for her.

"I don't know if it's really an interesting place to go! But what WOULD be interesting would be showing you the Department store near where Red caught me. I could even show you some of the restaurants inside it? If you wanted? For dinner."

Like a date sort of. Despite his seeming unwillingness to drop the D word.

"Sure, why not? Sounds like fun!" she replied.

Sonny had a Not!Date. It was official.

She followed him into the lab, and was immediately awestruck by all the machinery and equipment everywhere. She had issues with technology, to say the least, and made sure to keep her hands to herself while she looked carefully around, trying to figure out what each item did.
