Pokemon! Genie! Kanto? It's a thing that's happening!

The train ride from FDC was always pretty pleasant. The scenery was nice and it was a fairly long ride which allowed time for both gazing out the window at things flying by and also napping. Sonny, of course, insisted it was his treat whenever the snack trolley rolled past. The snack lady on the train had never made so much in one shift before...

...anyway. Kanto in Summertime is a wonderful place. The sun is shining, the Pidgey are Shin--er, singing, the Rattata are looking at their masses of squabbling children and regretting each and every life choice that led them to this moment. Today, they are joined by a portly, young, blue haired gentleman and his beautiful purple haired companion who just so happens to be a Genie.

"So! This is Pallet!" he said, turning to her and grinning. "I know it doesn't look like much, but it's a great place!"

Shantae had packed fairly lightly for the trip. Mostly just the necessities: a spare genie outfit, some PJs, hair cream, toothbrush, and of course a stock of adventuring gear. Never know when pike balls will come in handy. She shifted the bag over her shoulder, looking around at the small village they had arrived in. It was modern, despite being so small and rustic, with nice shiny buildings spread out pretty far. It was nice.

"Well, it's home, so of course it is, right?" she asked. "So where do you live?"

"That's the place, right behind us!" Sonny said pointing to a cozy looking two story house. It was flanked on two sides by stands of conifers and there was an air of Home to it. The place was obviously very lived in.

"I called ahead to let Red's Mom know we'd be staying here at least for a day or so. I still need to introduce you to Professor Oak and show you all the cute baby Pokémon, too! His lab is over that way!"

It was a bigger building ~~one of literally two other buildings in town~~ and so was visible from where they stood.

"Sounds good!" she declared. "Let's go check in with Red's Mom and put our stuff away, then we can go check out the lab and meet all the cute baby Pokemon!" she suggested.

"Alright! I think that's a good plan! We could get lunch, too!"

Sonny walked over to the front door and tried the handle - locked!

"Red's Mom must be out getting groceries! I know where the spare key is, though."

He pulled up a stone next to the doorstep and produced a key before unlocking the door and opening it for Shantae.

"Ladies first!"

"Long as she won't mind us just letting ourselves in," Shantae said, stepping into the quaint comfy home. "You grew up here too?" she asked him, glancing about to get her bearings.

"She won't mind! Red's Mom is really nice!" Sonny said, closing the door behind them then making a beeline straight for the fridge.

"Nope! I grew up in the mountains." Sonny replied. "I've lived here every so often since Red was like... eleven? And he's eighteen now, I think. Depending on.. which.. Red it is."

...there had been a couple. Timey wimey wibbly wobbly whatever.

He started grabbing things out of the fridge. Onigiri and some left over chicken, some bread, pickles, coleslaw, mustard. He'd find some bread and make sandwiches. Oh man, milk! Does a body good.

"That's a relief," she said, watching Sonny bolt for the kitchen as soon as they were in. "So where do we sleep?" she asked, following him along to see what he was up to.

"Upstairs!" Sonny said, going to the bread basket and fishing around for a loaf. "Well, you'll be staying up there. There's a bed? It's Red's but he's not home right now."

There was a little sadness in his voice as he said that. Just a hint, though. He'd been hoping to properly introduce her to his trainer, but it hadn't worked out.

"I'll be a Snorlax and sleep outside under the trees! I'm not sure if Red's Mom would really approve of us sharing a room as Humans and I can't fit in his room properly as a Snorlax? Because I don't want the floor to cave in."

"Wow. Hope he won't mind," she said, suddenly finding herself hoping that Red didn't take this time to decide to come visit home again. She hurried up the stairs to leave her bag behind, returning to join Sonny in the kitchen.

"You sure you're okay with sleeping outside like that?" she asked him, leaning against the counter.

By the time she got back down, Sonny was well on the way to making them each a huge sandwich, with chicken and vegetables and cheese, with a side of rice balls and another side of whole dill pickles.

"He won't mind!" Sonny replied. "So long as we leave his room neat, it's OK! He's very nice. I wish he could of been here for you to meet him properly? Actually, it looks like none of my team mates are home right now either."

"Mayo or mustard on your sandwich? Both? And I don't really mind? Probably, I'd rather just use a sleeping bag on the floor inside. I like sleeping inside more at night time - napping outside in the summer sun is nice, though."

"Some mustard, thanks," she replied, watching him work his sandwitchcraft. Those were big sandwiches. How were they supposed to fit those in their mouths?

"Well, why don't you get a sleeping bag and come sleep inside? Or on the couch? I'm sure Red's Mom won't mind," she said. "She DOES know you can humanize, right?"

"Good choice!" he replied, slathering a liberal helping of mustard on one piece of bread. (Actually, whichever choice she'd made would have been a good choice. Mustard or mayo hardly gives you room to make a bad one.)

"Ohhh, hey, I hadn't thought of that." Sonny said, looking over at the couch. "Yeah, you know? Probably I could sleep there. I guess you can take the Snorlax out of the wilderness, but the wilderness is a little tougher to take out of the Snorlax! Haha! Yeah, I'll sleep inside, then."

"I have great problem solving skills," she reminded him with a big smile. "If Red's Mom doesn't mind me sleeping in his room, she surely won't mind you sleeping on the couch!"

"Probably not!" Sonny replied, putting the final touch on her sandwich and sliding the plate over the table to her. "Heeere you go! Order up!" (It was ginormous. Most people could not eat this sandwich in one sitting. Are you a bad enough babe to rescue the Preside--er, eat this sandwich?)

"We can go check out the baby Pokémon at the Lab, and we could also go to the beach at the south end of town! It's small, but it's pretty and we can go swimming there?"

Shantae was probably not a bad enough dude to eat this sandwich in one sitting. But she was going to try.

"Sounds great to me," she said, taking a bite of sandwich. "There's a beach here? Great! I even brought a bikini just in case!" she announced proudly.

It was pretty much the ultimate sandwich.

"It's not too huge, so, I hope you aren't disappointed!" Sonny replied. "But the air here is really clear and you can see for miles - You should be able to spot some of the little Islands between here and Cinnibar to the south!"

"Doesn't matter if it's big as long as it's a nice swimming spot," Shantae said. "Nothing will compare to back home. Scuttle Town is all beachfront! I've been swimming almost as long as I could walk."

"Oh! Wow, that's so cool - I really love the beach! I think most people do, really. But I've always enjoyed it - it's so different to the mountains! And your home sounds especially exciting!"

"It is! If you don't mind the occasional monster attack," Shantae said, taking another bite of the monster sandwich. "Tell me something, are your lunches always this... sizable?"

"I was made for occasional monster attacks!" Sonny replied. He literally was, too. To both defend against and provide them, no less!

"Oh, well, sure - if it's too big, you could save some for later? Just wrap it in foil or something! It should keep OK for a little bit!"

"I think I'm gonna have to," she said with a laugh. "My stomach's not as big as yours! Er, you know what I mean," she added quickly, catching herself.

"Don't worry - by the time I'm done feeding you, you'll have an appetite to match mine." He reassured her. "Even if you don't get the stomach to go with it." he said, poking his own belly.

"I'd better not," she smirked. "I mean, look at this dancer's body I've got here!" she laughed, bumping her hip a bit. "Takes hard work to look this good all the time."

"It's definitely... well, I bet it really does take a lot of work! But it pays off!"

It's definitely a lovely body! had been his initial thought but he didn't want her to think he was creepy or anything. (The conversation about Ammo Baron had definitely cemented that in his mind: Keep it civil! Not that he had to work hard to do this. But still.)

"Darn right it does!" she answered, setting down the sandwich when she'd had enough. So far he'd been doing everything right. He was a perfect gentleman, and she appreciated it.

"So! Shall we get going?" she asked.
