Pokemon! Genie! Kanto? It's a thing that's happening!

The train ride from FDC was always pretty pleasant. The scenery was nice and it was a fairly long ride which allowed time for both gazing out the window at things flying by and also napping. Sonny, of course, insisted it was his treat whenever the snack trolley rolled past. The snack lady on the train had never made so much in one shift before...

...anyway. Kanto in Summertime is a wonderful place. The sun is shining, the Pidgey are Shin--er, singing, the Rattata are looking at their masses of squabbling children and regretting each and every life choice that led them to this moment. Today, they are joined by a portly, young, blue haired gentleman and his beautiful purple haired companion who just so happens to be a Genie.

"So! This is Pallet!" he said, turning to her and grinning. "I know it doesn't look like much, but it's a great place!"

Sonny changed back into a person and yawned loudly.

"Oh, of course - probably, you wouldn't know!" he said, arching his back backwards and stretching his arms as though he'd just woken from a particularly good doze. "When Princess sang that song? It's not just a pretty tune. It's actually a move called Sing. It puts opposing Pokémon to sleep. It's hard to avoid it and I've never had much luck staying awake through it, but I promise it's not because I just decided to take a snooze! I really truly had no choice."

"Uh huh," Shantae said. "You know, if that's going to be a thing, maybe you should give me a quick primer on what other things I should be expecting," she added.

"Weeeell, there's also paralysis. I might get paralyzed by spores or electricity? That just means I move slower and sometimes I miss doing a move because of it. It's a bummer, but you can still come back from it. Being frozen is one that you know pretty well because I did it to you that one time! Ice type moves usually come with a chance of freezing an opponent. I could get burned, meaning that I'm slowly hurt by a really bad burn because of fire. If it's bad enough and stays long enough, then I can faint from that. There's also poison! It's hard to poison a Snorlax, but it could be done. Again, I can faint from that if it stays too long without getting fixed."

The accumulated status condition information of a Champion Trainer's Pokémon, Shantae. People would probably pay thousands of Pokéyen for this information.

Shantae was quiet for a few moments after hearing his explanation. "...You know what, I don't think I want to do the fighting," she admitted.

"Oh? Well, alright - if you're really sure? I just know you like to fight so I thought it could be fun for you! I don't mind doing it all if you want me to."

He grinned at her.

"You know what's funny? I already have a trainer and everything and really, technically, you don't have any badges so normally a high level Pokémon like me proooobably wouldn't obey you much. But you're getting a kind of interesting experience. You're a novice trainer out in the world with her starter Pokémon about to take on an evil organization to save lives. Exciting, right?"

"Yeah, I just don't wanna have to remember all those rules from your side of it," she explained. "I love fighting, but more... freestyle."

She nodded. "I do love taking out evil organizations to save lives," she said. "So hey, this should at least be fun! C'mon, speaking of which, we need to keep flying!"

She stepped back, dancing again to transform into a harpy, flapping her wings to get airborne.

Sonny ran over, mentally preparing himself to be grabbed by the shoulders again.

"Ready when you are, Shantae!!"

Okay. She could do this. She swooped down, taking hold of his shoulders and lifting him off again, flapping her way over the ocean again. She could only hope that this wouldn't be QUITE as long of a trip as last time...

"You can do it, Shantae!" Sonny called, doing his best to be encouraging. "I'll buy you the biggest dinner you've ever seen!"

Encouragement! Hell yeah!!

She kept flying for as long as her wings could hold out, and perhaps a little longer. It couldn't be much longer. Just a little more...

She never felt so happy to see city lights in all her life when they started to pop into view like fireflies. "Is that it?" she asked, audibly exhausted, but hanging in there for his sake.

"It is, you're almost there! You're doing a really, really great job, Shantae. I'm super proud of you!" Sonny replied, looking up at her adoringly. She really was super strong and had a lot of endurance to drag his butt this far through the air.

"I can give you a shoulder rub when we land if you want? Would that help?"

"I'm definitely taking you up on that," she informed him as she started to make her final approach. She may have been strong enough to haul him this far, but she was feeling the burn already.

She circled around to find a safe spot to land, and when she found one, she swooped down and released Sonny, touching down herself with a little less grace than she would have liked, before shifting back to human form. She rolled her shoulders when she was herself again, groaning a bit. "I'm gonna feel that tomorrow," she lamented.

"Here, relax and hold still." Sonny replied, placing his hands on her shoulders and starting to rub.

He'd never had much practice with this - it wasn't like any of his siblings were really the kind of people to ask for shoulder rubs. But he'd seen it on TV and as with most things that involved personal contact and affection, he was naturally gifted. Empathy was his strong suit and he used it to judge what would be helpful and what wouldn't be.

"Tell me if I'm being too firm." he said.

Shantae felt the tension melt away, and she relaxed against Sonny's grip. She found a spot to sit, and rolled her head and shoulders as he rubbed them. "That feels SO much better," she said, closing her eyes. "It's a long way to fly while carrying someone else. I'm not used to carrying people at all while I do that..."

"Well, now that we're here, we probably won't have to do it again." Sonny reassured her, pressing the balls of his thumbs into the knots in her back and working out the tension. "I'll be sure to carry you, next time! I can't fly, but I can walk and climb and stuff."

"Ah, that feels good," she said in response to his massage. She had a lot of tension in her shoulders. She never really got massages; a soak in a hot spring tended to be all she needed to heal herself, but it meant she had a lot of tension to work out.

"Now that we're here, where would these Team Rocket guys be heading?" she asked.

"Probably down at the docks!" Sonny replied, removing his hands from her shoulders and linking his fingers together to crack all his knuckles. (Massages were like workouts for your hands!)

"Bad guys always hang out down by the docks, plus, the Rockets said they were sending the starters to a region that was far away so they're going to probably send them by boat!"

Shantae rolled her shoulders, hopping up to her feet when he finished, perking right up after the long flight. "Then let's go pay them a little visit and show them what happens when you mess with all those cute baby Pokemon!" she declared. "Which way to the docks?"

Sonny raised his nose to the air.

"I smell fish markets! This way!" he said, striding out of the undergrowth to look at the city outskirts. It looked roughly the same as the last time he was here, so, nothing crazy had happened and the layout should be the same.

It was a quaint little seaside city and would have been a great place to stop if they weren't on a mission.

"Follow your nose!" Shantae declared, chasing after him. It really was a nice looking city... Maybe they could check it out more after they finished beating up on Team Rocket. "Think they have a warehouse? Or maybe they're just trying to load up a boat? Think we beat them here?"

"They're probably loading a boat!" Sonny replied, starting to run. "There's always boats here and if they're taking the Pokémon to a different region here, they would have to go by boat!"

His sneakers slapped against the wood of the boardwalk before long and... oh. This wasn't even going to be hard.

There was a large, fast looking boat moored against the pier with two black suited grunts standing in the back of it and a huge red R painted on the side.

"...uh. They really aren't really very good at not being noticed."

Wave stopped when they saw the... rather obvious looking boat. She blinked.

"So, uh... These guys were a major threat before, HOW?" she asked Sonny, scarcely believing these guys held ANY kind of power over anyone.

"Well? Before, I think it was because they were a BIG organization. Like... they could just walk into a city and take it over. That kind of big? So, they didn't need to hide or be sneaky or anything." Sonny replied, musing on it as he looked at the boat. "Some of them probably remember that time and want to feel that way again, so, they paint a big red R on a big dumb boat because even if it's not practical, at least people will notice and remember that once upon a time? Team Rocket was a name that made everyone scared."

He started walking towards the boat, taking long steps, his hands swinging at his sides, clenched into fists.

"I'm not scared today, though."

"Heck, I was never scared of them to begin with," Shantae added, grinning and punching her fist into her palm, following him. "Time to lay down some justice on these wannabe bad guys!"

"Let's do it!" Sonny replied, falling back a little so they walked together in stride. Stuff always looked more badass when you were walking forward in a line. Usually it was best if there were a bunch of people walking side by side. But they only had two. So two it was.

"Hey!" Sonny called. "Hi! Are you guys waiting for the shipment of Starter Pokémon from Pallet town?"

"Like we'd ever tell you, Chump!" called the highest ranking grunt on the boat. Professional Grunt First Class. Sonny recognized the rank as being roughly equivalent to his own.

"Pretty much telling me that you won't tell me is kind of the same thing as actually just telling me." Sonny replied. "You probably should of just said 'What are you talking about!?' or something!"

".....Golbat, Go!"

The grunt, annoyed at being shown up released his Pokémon. Sonny looked at Shantae. "You suuuuure you don't want to try fighting?"
