Dorm Log: Scorching Summer Edition

Who: Who else.
What: Dorm log!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. Frankly? I don't care where. Go have fun, kids.
When: The span of June 14 - June 28th. Pick a date.
Warnings: Yeah, it got pretty naughty in here.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's how this works. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. Stay up all night watching reruns of Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles? Break out the ice cream and industrial fans to beat the heat? Get a bad suntan while you're asleep with the help of your friends? Whatever you get your bad self up to. Your good self is welcome, too. Now put your copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf down for one second and tag this thing!

Eirika kept her eyes on Furiae, mostly curious about the girl who seemed so willowy. So pale. Darker hair. Piercing eyes. She was very pretty. And she dressed prettily, too. It suddenly make Eirika wonder if perhaps it was time for her to change up her own wardrobe. She'd stuck with the tunic and skirt if only to keep herself connected to Magvel in some way, but...

She moved from her dresser to the wall above her bed, book in hand. As she flipped it open carefully, she withdrew what appeared to be dried flowers that she had the intent to pin up carefully. Well-preserved at that, for it had been her one request when she left the hospital of modern and surprisingly advanced techniques.

"It's very nice to meet you, Furiae," she replied with a small smile. "I think I will very much enjoy to have your company, so please don't feel you need to request a room change. My former partner left some time ago, so I've spent much of my time alone. It will be very nice to have another here. I hope you'll be comfortable."

Furiae in turn watched Eirika, saw the the book in hand and then the flowers that emerged, but did not pry beyond what she saw. They could be important, or maybe the princess took to using whatever flower she found as a bookmark. Whether she looked the type to do such a thing was hard to tell; some personalities could be distinguished by a person's appearance, but there wasn't much that Furiae could tell of Eirika yet.

She decided not to just stand and linger by her desk, but went to pick up the garment on her bed just before Eirika spoke up. The words made her halt though when they came, but she resumed her action and moved back to the table.

"I will be fine," she assured, setting down the piece in her hands. "I am relieved that no misfortune came upon the one before me. I heard that many were injured."

A pause, but her eyes were set again on Eirika. Her voice softened. "I was uncertain of your well-being... but you look well."

Eirika nodded slowly, careful to occasionally give Furiae a glance, just so she knew she was being attentive. At least that lasted until she finished pinning her flowers, which when she was done, she admired her handiwork with a bit of a fond smile. And perhaps a little pink in the cheeks. Which seemed to quickly disappear when she thought about what Furiae said again.

"Lyra left far before the most recent war," she explained. "Didn't say a word to me or anything, which I thought strange. She was really my first link to something a little more modern. I thought of her as close, but we were not as close as I would have liked."

When Furiae continued, Eirika found herself pausing. Turning, she closed her book and sat on the edge of her bed. How many people knew she was the one behind starting the revolution? How many people knew she'd also failed? And how many knew that she surrendered herself willingly?

"I'm better than I was," she admitted quietly.

I question my humanity. A lot. How much of it remains. If anything done to me is irreversible. If something happened to me that I don't know about. It's hard to live these days with such a blank space in my memory. But... I haven't talked about that with anyone yet.

"Thank you for your concern."

Furiae watched as the flowers went up, idly curious as to their type but keeping to the topics that she had made. The name Lyra though brought upon her a pause of thought; first as to why it sounded familiar, and then because of why it did. Was it...? The same? A girl who she had never met who had found a place in her thoughts, then disappeared from them over time. But only because there had not been any more fuel to keep her lit there, for even a drop would've sufficed for the reason she had even entered them at all.

However, she did not let her thoughts be consumed by the faceless girl by any more than a few moments. She heeded instead how Eirika's voice lowered in answering her question, and knew there it was better than to press the subject or to pry. It was not her place. However, Furiae did nod in response, then decided as well to take her seat but keeping it untucked from the table. So as to not shut Eirika out.

"The flowers are beautiful." Words to move the subject away, but sincerely spoken as well. Furiae moved the garment near to her lap, picking up the needle in hand.

When Eirika finished, she found herself smiling as she heard Furiae speak.

They are, aren't they? Oddly enough, I feel like things are... much more beautiful than they already were. But I hold my heart responsible for just such a sentiment. As if to say all things in the world will be all right with Connor at my side.

Moving to sit at the edge of her bed, she kept the warm curve in her mouth and it even grew when she gave it more thought.

"Thank you. I'll pass the compliments onto the one who got them." Her head tipped, "When I was recovering, they were a gift to me. I was very touched to know that I was being thought of. If I act a little strange for a few days, it isn't personal. I'm feeling a little out of sorts, but I'm sure I'll be back to normal soon."

She motioned over to Furiae's garment, "Do you mind telling me a little about yourself? You have a regal quality to you and you speak as one."

The needle was pinched ready in her fingers, but Furiae did not begin (or resume) her work as Eirika spoke. She waited politely, a tilt of her head given for Eirika's words on her behaviour. She at least seemed fine for now, Furiae thought, but it was the inside that mattered too.

However, the question- or what followed it- caught her off-guard. Was it that obvious, her heritage? And yet maybe she shouldn't be so surprised, or offended (not that offended quite matched what she was feeling) that she still shared a quality held by her parents. Her eyes stayed on the fabric beneath her hands.

"I am not from this land," she began slowly. "It is far away from here... and there is a great difference between them. My way of speaking... it is unusual to how people speak here. And there is much more..."

But she fell into a silent moment, and decided that it would be more easier to be truthful. To a point.

"...But my past is not something that I like to speak about. There is very little I can share with you."

Eirika took everything Furiae said seriously. And to be fair, she was intuitive. In the same way she knew very early on that Connor had a plethora of things in his past, Furiae had very easily confirmed the exact same thing in more words than the Native, but fewer words than likely what Renais's princess would have used. And the very concept made the features in Eirika's face soften.

"I understand. That is perfectly acceptable."

After all, if she could help it, she didn't want to talk about her past or heritage either. People publicly knew her as a princess and that was really all they needed to know. If and when she chose to give out more information, it would be at her own pace and she imagined perhaps one day that Furiae might very well feel the same.

"Who were you staying with before? If they changed your room to mine, then it implies your previous partner also left."

There was relief in Eirika's understanding, and a feeling of comfort as well. A sense of ease, as if getting rid of a tenseness that she hadn't noticed was there. Regardless of whether it was real or simply her imagination at the topic rearing so closely to her past, Furiae felt herself speaking easier in her answer to the other princess.

"No, she is still here- and well," Furiae added, so there would be no thought otherwise. "I do not know why the change was made... but her name is Alorah. She is a quiet girl; polite." She paused, briefly. "She is known as a Pokémon. Do you know of them?"

"I've heard the word, but to claim I know much more than that would be false." Eirika lifted her eyebrows and shook her head. "From my understanding, they are akin to animals. My greatest accomplishment here is coming to terms with things that are that seem as if they shouldn't be."

But she had to say that lightly, for there were the Mamkutes. Beings who could turn into dragons. Or perhaps they were dragons to begin with and could turn into humans. Eirika couldn't really say either which way.

"I suppose it would be too much to consistently expect an explanation on things." Then she smiled, "However, it is a gain for me. Your company, I mean."

Furiae could understand that need to adjust, or to come to realise that things here in this world was not as simple- or, rather, the same- as their own. Sub-species existed in her world, but to be with creatures not human- well, she had not even met with elves before. There was a lot that even in her time at the school, that still made her feel so out of place.

But that itself felt so... normal by now, too. Not exactly distressing.

There was a slight curl of her mouth in acceptance of what Eirika said to her company, something close to a smile. "If you would not mind... I would like to ask of your experience of this school. The tools of this land are more advanced than anything in my own... computers and phones, powered by electric. Are these things ordinary to you?"

Because this had been a question she had never really been able to ask- asking Alorah, a creature trained by a human in some manner, did not really seem... appropriate. Not quite the same as any other animal, but still the same, no? And other people she had spoken to had seemed quite in ease with the technologies of the world.

And she had noticed there didn't seem to be any more to the room regarding electronics than had been provided in her last room. Common items for every students, Furiae had guessed.

Her experience of the school. Considering Eirika had not been there long, she wasn't sure what experiences she could really talk about. She supposed the biggest experience was the one that separated her lifestyle in Magvel from the one in the academy. To base it on lifestyle, the academy's was undoubtedly better, which was inevitably unnerving. But Eirika knew not to say it like that.

But Furiae's question was actually far more pleasant than she was expecting.

Eirika shook her head, "No. Not in the least. I am surprised I am not more obvious by my style of dress or my room. Most know within moments of my company that I am most certainly not of this time." She motioned about, "I'm not accustomed to electricity or computers. The technology here is very advanced in comparison to where I'm from. These are luxuries unavailable to my people and to me."

"I thought so, but I did not want to presume." Furiae tilted her head, motioning indirectly to the monitor and desktop, her free hand lifting up to near her shoulder - they were behind it, after all. "I have been taught how to use what we are given, but I do not fully understand them... but they are impressive. I had never thought a tool could ever exist with the ability to show us pictures of anything that we might ask for."

Google Images, man. How about that.

But the topic moving to the device did make Furiae think, of how familiar Eirika's voice was, in a way. "I have heard you on the Network, I believe, in the past."

Furiae was a few steps ahead of Eirika, which came as little surprise. Eirika was intensely stubborn and had refused to integrate herself in with the academy's rule setting. She still had yet to touch the keyboard that came to her computer. She had no portable device to carry with her. She refused the uniform on several occasions. Too proud was the princess to lose any remaining bond with her homeland and she feared she would grow far too accustomed to any of it.

It was all a form of power, after all, and Eggman had proven just how destructive such advancements could be. If she could help it, she wouldn't allow such monstrosities to plague her people or her kingdom. All in all, it left her feeling very regal and protective over the women, men, and children who had been or would be slain in her name.

As Furiae moved along seamlessly, Eirika nodded. "I do not speak up much or often, but I have been here for some calendar months. For a good deal of time, my interest was in the various portals that house the entry and exit points into other worlds, as I was told that this academy is considered a centralised location. As if to imply if there is a beginning and an end, this very point is what sits between opened chapters and closed books."

Furiae had only been a few steps ahead in that she had help with the technology, though admittedly, while certain parts of the computer were curious things, the woman did not prefer it to what was familiar, such as books in the library.

But Eirika's words took her a small moment, letting the way she described the portals sink in. It was poetic, odd, but not so unusual from texts. But the subject of portals was one that did interest her to a degree. Furiae knew not much about the portals, only that they existed and had left with her a false impression of the land when she had first arrived. Yet her brother had also been able to use one, hadn't he...

"Did you wish to find a way to use them?"

She had to stop and think about that, because the whole decision behind that had been a long one. For nearly half a calendar year, Eirika had obsessed her free waking thoughts on finding a way back to Magvel. She had suffered through grand homesickness that disrupted her ability to be near the people she had grown invested in. She had... longed and wished and hoped to not feel so alone in a world that was completely new and foreign to her. And in many ways, several of those thoughts had not left her. If anything, the latter was far more prominent with Innes having left. But those were all very deep considerations and she had barely begun breaking into them with Connor. It wasn't about to begin where she'd divulge them so easily.

"It is true that when I first arrived here I had wanted nothing more than to return to my homeland. My arrival here was not of my volition and what proceeds in my absence is something I should be present for. But it's also a matter out of my hands and it is my responsibility to hold faith in the people I left behind to have the strength needed to carry on without me as long as necessary."

Weaving her hands together, she found her posture straightening, "However, I feel I can do a great deal of good while I'm here. I can wait to return home, and when I do find that portal, perhaps all things will be in a better station. I've not the power to see the future, but I know what it is that I want to accomplish and I'll do what I can and what I must."
