Oh! I don't remember ever talking much to him, but I know who he is. He wears a nice blue suit and has spiky hair. said the Snorlax who had spiky blue hair and no suits. I'll make sure to tell him a proper Hello next time that I see him somewhere. He must be really nice if you're so happy to be his Pokémon!

She hadn't known what to expect when she told him. Perhaps he would have felt disappointed that she had no plans of joining Red team. She never had, of course. Even less so considering the potential issues that sat in their love triangle. Well. 'V.' ~~Haha. V.~~

I think he's very kind, she agreed. I'll be sure to introduce you two, though I imagine he remembers you from when you were last here. Voile had never really talked about Sonny by name. At least, not when he'd left. Not to people who didn't know of him already, anyway.

I simply wish to make him happy, Voile admitted. I think he spends a lot of his time fretting. I intend to see that end. I wish to make his life easier, in return for his care of me. It is a mutually beneficial relationship. As if he was my father, or my brother, perhaps.

He wasn't even considering the 'what if's of her joining his team. Of course, if she had suggested it herself, he would have thought it was a great idea and been for it one hundred percent! But she certainly had the right to chose a trainer of her own and so long as that lucky, lucky person treated her well? They would hear no complaints from him.

I bet that you make his life so much better, he's going to wonder how he got by without you. the Snorlax replied confidently. I know that's how I feel.

I sure hope you're right, Sonny.

But his words do make her pause. At least momentarily. Do you really feel like that? You sound very dramatic. You would have gotten along just fine without me.

He was being such a flatterer. And Voile was just as horrible for liking it, admittedly.

Very dramatic? he asked with a deep, short laugh. Noooo. I still would of been a happy person if we never met. I know I would, because that's who I am. But now that we know each other and love each other, it's hard to imagine life without that. I think so.

He shifted a little on the spot and scratched at his cheek with his long claws. He was starting to feel more and more awake and like he might not need to finish this nap so soon after all.

Oh...

She offered him a softer smile and she nestled in against him. That I can understand. I couldn't imagine my life without your presence. You are very important to my days and my history. You are very important as to why I am the way I am today.

Leaning up, she gave him the Gardevoir equivalent of a kiss to his cheek.

He returned the gesture with a kiss of his own to her cheek. Not really a Snorlax kiss, which was something more like a big long lick. This was a more human gesture if anything, and would leave the side of her face in a much drier state.

I feel the same way. I'm glad that we agree about it.

He settled into place a little more comfortably, hugging her near with his big, fuzzy arms.

...um. Tell me if this gets too warm? he said. He didn't want her to overheat what with sunshine and panda monster fuzz.

Don't worry about me.

She was... maybe a little relieved he didn't lick her. Because for as much as that would have been just something his kind did, it seemed a little too... intimate? Something that seemed to sit a little more further in the forefront of her mind. Would it really have been so terrible if it was?

Giving a sigh, Voile softened. You good if we stay like this for a bit?

Mmmhmm! It's nice. he replied, looking out over the grass towards the buildings of the school. He could see people wandering around in the distance. He wondered if Red or Marie or Sasha was over there.

Are you and your trainer going to go anywhere for the summertime? Maybe to see his home? I remember the first time I got to see Pallet town! It was so nice!

That's a good question. I haven't asked him. I wonder if he'd want to take me to his home, though. I mean, it is his. And I wouldn't really fit in, you know? It's a little different for you and Red. There are other Pokémon where he's from.

She shook her head as she continued, But I highly doubt Phoenix has anything like that in his homeland. People would probably look at me strangely. I'm not sure they'd be so accepting of me, regardless of whether they should be or not.

You would be the only Pokémon there? Hmm.

That was a strange idea to him. He'd only ever lived in places where there were Pokémon everywhere.

...That would just mean you were even MORE special than you are here. He finally replied. Everyone would be interested to meet you I bet, because you would be someone very new to them. And because you're lovely, everyone would probably like you a lot too.

Don't you think that'd be dangerous, Sonny? If I wandered about so freely. Phoenix isn't exceptionally strong and my abilities aren't the same as a human's. If I did something that they didn't understand, it'd cause a spectacle. People could go after me. Or worse, people could go after him.

She shook her head, I want to go visit, but I have to find a way to look more human. I have a lot of hair, but I don't know if I can style it enough to hide the wings. Maybe you can help me with that.

Yeah. I wouldn't want to think of you getting hurt because people don't understand what a Pokémon is. he mused quietly, wrapping his big, fuzzy arms around her just a little tighter, as if to ward off hordes of imaginary humans.

But I know how to help. You can maybe wear a wig over your green hair to make it look blonde or something. And maybe you can wear one of those funny winter hats! You know! Those ones with the flaps that come down over the ears.

That would likely hide the wings well enough if she tucked them under both the wig and the hat.

There came a certain kind of security when his arms cradled her protectively. If there had only been one thing Voile was permitted to have undeniable faith in, it was of Sonny's guardianship over her. She knew well enough that if something ever happened to her, Sonny probably wouldn't handle it real well. 'Real well' meaning someone would wind up paying - hopefully the guilty party.

A wig and hat, hm? she asked with some interest. That's actually a very good idea. I guess we should find the time to go shopping. Well, I should anyway. And you're welcome to join me, of course.

But she got the impression that he probably wasn't going to turn her down.

While Sonny was a primarily gentle soul, that soul had been forged in the mountains and wilds of Kanto and tempered in the Pokémon league challenge and destruction of an evil criminal empire. It was safe to say - entirely safe to say - that anyone who harmed Voile would pay back that wrongdoing in full. He was a very protective person, after all, and there were few people he cared for more than her.

I'd be very happy to help you find some good ones! We can maybe even find a jacket to match the hat. Because probably? You would want to visit in winter time if you're going to wear a fluffy hat. So, you should take a jacket too.

You're giving this a lot of thought, she noticed with something of a softer gaze. I think... I'm very touched by how supportive you're being of me. Perhaps I should see if Phoenix would allow you to come along.

But further along down the line, she'd have to figure out how to introduce Sonny to Phoenix, which she wasn't... really sure. The heart of her heart? That spelled an awful lot of implications that she wasn't sure Sonny wanted to hear. And a few more that she didn't really know how to express.

For being an emotive creature, she sure was having a hard time.

I'd like that! It would be a little easier for me to blend in, because I actually just look like a regular guy with an underbite. Like that guy at the all you can eat place who punched me in the nose.

Tad, was his name, if Sonny remembered right.

I could dye my hair black and just make sure to shave so that my hair wasn't so blue. Even though Max's hair is blue, some people think that's a weird color for people's hair to be. So, I would change it to look a bit more like a normal guy.

She gave him a slight look at the remembrance of his trip to jail with Max. Good times, weren't they? About as much of a sigh that she could give, she felt a remarkable amount of frustration at the idea of him suffering the hands of the human and pokemon debacle.

I like your hair the way it is, she confessed. You shouldn't change it. Just be who you are, Sonny. The people would just think you were a little strange. Better to be strange than to be normal, I think.

Sonny waved a paw. OK, OK, if you're sure! I'm glad you like my hair!

He really should try using one of those hair brush things one day.

So... Um. How is Marie? I haven't really seen him very much lately?

Whether the Wartortle was just being his usual, reclusive self or intentionally steering clear of him, he honestly wasn't sure. He knew that Voile had gone to Prom with Marie, though. He'd been trying not to think too much about that.

There was a rather distinct pause at Sonny's question. Tension too, which she tried to hide. Talking about the guy she'd agreed to date to the guy she loved was... Interesting.

They probably knew what she was doing. That two-timing thing. It wasn't good. And she probably needed to put a stop to it. And it wasn't like she enjoyed it either. She just often tried to turn a blind eye to it. At least until she found whatever answer it was on what to do.

That's... a good question. He and I haven't talked recently.

Not since Prom when Marie had a little too much of the not-good punch. She'd not forgotten that night and even in Gardevoir form, she reddened. No. She remembered all of that incredibly vividly. It was a stark reminder that she was still a girl and she still had the so-called normal urges that she guessed other adolescents had.

I've never made a habit of getting in his way. He has other things to attend to that don't involve me. It's unfair if I get nosy.

In short, Marie really wasn't that great a boyfriend. So with that in mind, was she simply tolerating him? Or was it Red's words that Marie needed her that kept her bound? Probably a little bit of both. And more.

Sonny just couldn't help feeling a small rush of... what? Pleasure? Vindication? Oh, Arceus, Victory? At the notion that she and Marie hadn't spent much time together recently. Which caused an immediate and much stronger backlash of guilt and self reprisal. This whole thing was never going to be easy to figure out as long as things were the way they were. And were he a less passive person, he may have said something to that effect. However? He was Sonny Moe. He was the pillow, he was the comforter, he was the smile everyone needed and the reassurance that things were OK. Even when he wasn't sure that was the case.

He's always been kind of like that. When he wants your company, he'll come and find it but he likes to be left alone a lot. It's nothing personal, though. It's just who he is, so, don't worry. OK?

She blinked at Sonny when she heard him.

Believe me, I'm not worried.

And when she realised how cold that sounded, she looked aside and felt herself grow serious. What I mean is that I don't require him to give me attention. He doesn't need to. I don't ask for him to. He can come see me whenever he'd like to, but I don't need him to survive.

Oops. It still sounded cold.

It DID sound cold. It was... quite a contrast.

I see.

But that was the point, wasn't it? That was the whole thing, right there. Sonny didn't NEED Voile to survive. He didn't really REQUIRE her attention or affection or presence. However. When it was lacking, he missed it. Sometimes he missed it to the point where it hurt. His life was so much richer for having her in it and especially for having her love and so he sought her out often. And she sought him out, too. Like this morning. And she left him the most lovely poems which he could only take to mean she thought of him fondly even when they were apart. He spent much of his time thinking of her, too, and he assumed she knew this and it was a given.

There were several conclusions he drew from this and none of them were something he wanted to vocalize. At least not at this point.

He really likes sweets. Sometimes, when I want to go and see him, I take him some cookies. Because even if he's in a bad mood or upset about something, I know that's one thing he'll get some comfort out of.

Sonny was very clever when it came down to things and if he'd bothered to confront her on any of it, Voile would have had a difficult time admitting anything the opposite. He was the one to whom she had given her heart. He was the one who took it with him when he left. He was the one who made her feel empty and incomplete when he had gone.

Even in his absence they had not faded, so when he returned, it was as if someone had struck a match to reignite the fire she'd once held. Except that was something she couldn't say, especially not with the position she was in. So her excuses for seeing him occasionally she had meant to make them look as innocent as she could.

But it did not excuse how she felt she became a worse person for it. But she wanted to make the most of the time she had with him. While she could. Because it... certainly wasn't going to last for long, she'd thought.

He does, yes. Voile nodded. I think that was one of the first things I learned about him. I brought him Pokéblocks one day, because he was upset over Red and you. And we walked beside the lake and talked about earlier days and fond memories. Faith. I remember it very well.

Looking to Sonny, she rubbed his forearm reassuringly, He cares for you a great deal. No matter what happens, I believe he always will. You two are brothers, after all. It'd be shame to let something change that.

Thanks for taking those to him. I'm sure it helped. Sonny replied. He hadn't really thought about it but there must have been a point in time where both he and Red weren't at school. After he'd gone and before Red had come back. And even then, when Red arrived he'd lost almost all of his memories of the school. That must have been pretty hard for Marie to deal with, all in all.

I love him very much. I wouldn't want us to stop being brothers and friends, and so... there's.... There's a lot of things that I do to try and make him happy. And I always will.

The unspoken undertone of this being one simple truth; If Voile was involved with almost anyone else, he would have stated his case long before now. If it was Bulba, Char, Jolt, Jock, Blake.... any boy that wasn't within the small circle of people Sonny loved more than his own life? He would have pointed out gently but clearly that the relationship Voile described was distant and odd and he was the much better choice. That he would always be open to her and always love and respect her and do his best every single day to make sure that she felt valued and cared for and could very happily live out the rest of his life doing just that.

However. This was Marie.

And so Sonny held his tongue.
