Dorm Log: Scorching Summer Edition

What: Dorm log!
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus. Frankly? I don't care where. Go have fun, kids.
When: The span of June 14 - June 28th. Pick a date.
Warnings: Yeah, it got pretty naughty in here.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's how this works. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. Stay up all night watching reruns of Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles? Break out the ice cream and industrial fans to beat the heat? Get a bad suntan while you're asleep with the help of your friends? Whatever you get your bad self up to. Your good self is welcome, too. "Oh, you're... You must be one of the robots... that Mister Minegishi mentioned..."

Pulse started to raise his hand, but then, thought better of it. Was it even capable of shaking hands?

"Um... My name is Pulse. I'm a student, too. It's nice to meet you. ...I'm sorry if I... if I disturbed you."

[operatingbuddy]

"You have not disturbed me," R.O.B. answered. "I welcome the company. It is... lonely here," he explained.

[voltecpower]

"Huh..."

Pulse put his hands together, thinking. Sure, he had lived in the Network for most of his life, but even though he was alone, he hadn't felt all that lonely; he could jump into the Real World whenever he wanted, which was always crowded back where he grew up. The fact that there were people everywhere was the reason why he preferred to stay in cyberspace in the first place. He actually felt more lonely in the Real World, being around people who didn't seem to want to have anything to do with him. But he felt that he could sympathize with R.O.B. somewhat... For something that had mostly existed in the Real World, and was used to being around people all the time, cyberspace must be pretty lonely.

"...Well, I'd be happy to keep you company, while you're waiting for your body to be repaired. This is actually where I live. ...Not here, exactly..."

He gestured toward the surrounding library stacks.

"...I mean, my dorm is in a partition somewhere else on the Network."

[operatingbuddy]

"I would not be averse to your company. Thank you," he replied. He seemed somewhat... relieved?

"Query: How long have you been attending this academy?"

[voltecpower]

Pulse stepped a little closer, feeling a bit more trusting of the AI.

"I've been here only for a few months... I'm new. A freshman, I think. I started my classes in February. ...How about you?"

[operatingbuddy]

"I have attended this academy for approximately three years," he answered. "It has been a rewarding experience, until recently," he explained.

[voltecpower]

"Oh? What happened? ...Does it have anything to do with having to leave your body behind?"

[operatingbuddy]

"Affirmative," he replied. "I was attacked and my body was rendered inoperable. Naoya is attempting to repair it, but until I can be restored to my physical form I am confined to the school network."

He did pick up on the mention of Mr. Minegishi, the monitor of the lab which served as Pulse's physical living space; however, his mind latched onto the bigger keyword.

"Attacked?"

He perked up rather sharply, facing the AI full-on.

"By what? Whom? Did you see who attacked you?"

[operatingbuddy]

"I attempted to defend myself, but was unable to prevent the destruction of my body. My attacker was a humanoid robot wearing blue armor. I do not know his name."

R.O.B. felt like he had told the story so many times now. It didn't get any easier.

[voltecpower]

Pulse huffed.

"I don't suppose it happened to be one of Eggman's robots, was it?"

[operatingbuddy]

"Negative," R.O.B. answered. "The robot's configuration did not match any known Eggman-style robots."

[voltecpower]

Huh... That limited Pulse's options somewhat. He only knew of one actual robot with blue armor, although he seemed rather friendly on their first meeting, and didn't look the type to attack others without a clear reason.

"You don't... I mean... Do you have any idea why he attacked you?"

[operatingbuddy]

"I am not certain. I believe my trespass was simply being a robot in his eyes," he explained.

Pulse could relate somewhat... No, he shouldn't. No. These were not Galaxy Gang robots or AI. And even if they were, and Pulse had to fight them, the reason wouldn't be because they were robots... He had to stop for a moment and think about it, his gaze shifting down toward the "floor".

Those robots he destroyed... They were harming others. They were attacking people. There was supposed to be some kind of law, somewhere... Something that said robots shouldn't attack people, that they should defend humans and humanity. But even if those laws didn't exist, Pulse would have done it anyway, simply because he didn't think it was right for the person who built those robots to use them to impose his beliefs on everyone else. It was an abuse of advanced technology. Robots are supposed to work with humans.

But this was the first he had ever heard of robot-on-robot violence. For R.O.B. to be attacked by a robot just for being a robot, perhaps the one that attacked him believed itself to be some sort of higher being than him, something that deserved the right to exist over him. ...And that was complete and utter nonsense. All intelligent self-aware beings should have the same right to live, or at least simulate life...

...Shouldn't they?

"Do you... Did the robot say anything to you when it attacked you? Do you recall anything it might have said?"

"He spoke to me as if I were an object, a toy. He attempted to break me and ripped my arm off. I retaliated to preserve myself. I failed."
