But then, the redheaded triplet noticed Cress's expression and stopped. "Oh. Uh. Does that mean... You're..." He didn't want to say it and be taken for a fool, but Cress looked really convincing...! And besides, he vaguely recalled a conversation he overheard recently about strange, body-changing hot springs. But so far, nothing had happened to him, and he'd been in both the men's springs and the mixed springs by now!

"I don't know how to put this gently, but I, Cress, have changed into a girl."
no subject
Chili wondered what the deciding factors were when it came to changing someone who was once a boy into a girl. Why Cress? Did he go into the mixed springs and just, poof, come out a girl? If that was the case, why didn't it happen to him? Maybe he just wasn't girly enough or something. Still, this was concerning.
"...Do you think it's permanent?"
no subject
"How should I know? I can't even say I know how this happened in the first place..."
Chili had not been nearly as surprised to get the news broken all over him as she'd been expecting. He was treating this far too complacently for her tastes. Wasn't he supposed to get worked up over her mysterious transformation? Maybe she had been looking forward to sharing a moment of mutual crisis with someone? Celes and her certainly had their fair share of joint freaking out, but she needed someone else to confide in. Someone closer, who could reach into her heart and extract more precisely what kinds of uncertainties she must be feeling on the deepest level.
Maybe she just wanted a hug.
She went ahead and leaped for it. Her arms flung around Chili and she clung like seaweed and braced herself against a storm she couldn't feel yet but predict.

It felt weird to have his brother hugging him with long, long locks of hair tied to the sides in two twintails on the sides of his head. It felt weird to wrap his arms around his waist and be able to cling onto with his fingertips around someone that felt a tad smaller than he remembered. And it didn't help much that Cress chose to wear a dress, which made it feel real, real that Cress was a girl. He could feel that Cress was bothered by this, and he was too.
"Even if you're like this forever," started Chili, smiling against Cress's shoulder; "You'll still always be our triplet. It's weird seeing you like this, but I recognized you almost instantly! You're still you, right? So no matter what you look like, you're still going to be Cress!" The redhead could tell his new sister was getting emotional, so he tried his best to stave off her tears and her worries with his words. He tightened his hug.
"So don't worry! If you ask me, I bet this will be gone in a bit." At least, he hoped. "Wouldn't everyone else be pitching a fit if this were permanent? They'd never let this place live it down! And even if it were... I know for a fact that Cilan and I wouldn't mind one bit!"
His mind felt hazy. What matter of magic was this? How could they make it go away? He wanted to be strong for Cress, but inside, his worries started bubbling up. He was finally feeling it, how daunting this was. That Cress was a girl, and if this was forever... He'd never see Cress as his brother, but rather, his sister. Was that going to be really, really different? Chili couldn't tell. He never had a sister before. Just barely, he trembled. He wasn't sure, he wasn't sure.
no subject
"I'm glad... Yes, you're right. No matter whether Cress is a boy or a girl, Cress will always be Cress." Reclining away from their embrace with her hands still laced around his back, she offered him a canny smile coupled with a wink of the same persuasion. "And we could always use a cute girl in our mix to reel in a different crowd of customers."
no subject
"Y-Yeah! You've got a point!" he exclaimed. He wasn't smiling - he just looked shocked at her proposal and her cuteness. "But- But- What if people start being creepy at you?! I'll beat 'em up, I'll beat them for sure! Nobody's gonna touch you!!!"
And now, Chili was suddenly protective and passionate. Cress's charm worked, clearly.

Interestingly enough, she noticed to herself, she wasn't nearly as annoyed as she thought she'd be by his brotherly instincts taking over so powerfully now that he was a she. In fact, she might be enjoying picturing how worked up he could get over her safety.
"No need to get so hostile so soon!" she advised, pushing one of her fingers up in the air and wagging it back and forth. "I can see where your concern lies, but don't forget. I, Cress, am completely capable of fending for myself against suitors. What difference does it make if they are men?"
no subject
He was making this seem like a serious issue, even though Cress had only just begun his journey as a girl...

But really... was this any time to toy around? She chose to drop the strings in favor of ushering this in a different direction. "Yes, yes, as I always have." She placed a hand on his shoulder firmly. "For now, let's continue on as though nothing has changed. It would do us no good to wallow in our concerns for the future should this be unchangeable. Would you like to go get something to drink with me? Panpour is thirsty, you see..." The aquatic monkey's tail bobbed slowly.

Cress led the way over to the room where the food buffet was lined up. The popular venue had quieted down considerably since it was past every meal of the day. Every time she passed it by, she would feel her mouth water at the sight of all the gourmet morsels lined up, fresh and ready to be eaten. It was so tempting to gravitate toward the tables and scoop up some plates while they were at it, but Cress steeled her discipline and headed straight for the soda to get one for both herself and Panpour.
"Feel free to grab whatever you'd like," she urged her brother in case he felt restricted to the options she had chosen.
no subject
When he met up with Cress after he'd gotten everything he wanted, he grinned. "Yeah, I couldn't help it. I like food. And it all looks so good!"
It was probably lucky that he didn't grab a whole huge plate of it, but the two of them could easily split the amount of food he'd grabbed.
no subject
"I see you were hungry as well," she replied. Of course he was. He was Chili. Chili was a metabolistic furnace.
no subject
That was an accurate observation on Chili's part, sure, but if you were to add Pansear into the equation...
"Go, Pansear!"
...Chili was probably going to need more food.
"You can have some if you want, Cress," he offered, smiling at her. Pansear was already reaching for some of the grapes Chili had on his plate. Chili didn't seem to mind.
no subject
Panpour leaped onto the table, staring up at Chili with its non-eyes.
"I presume that means Panpour may have some as well?"
no subject
"No." Chili shoved Panpour off the table and pretended it never happened."Sure, go ahead," said Chili, grabbing a grape from Pansear and popping it in his mouth.
"So where did you get the fancy dress?" asked Chili. He couldn't tell it belonged to Celes like this - without the dark twintails and the red of her eyes, it didn't look so much like Celes's dress as it did a gothic lolita dress that Cress happened to be wearing.

"I still think blue accents look better on you, when it comes down to it," he said. He tried to sound dismissive about it when he spoke, but it didn't show through very well. "Can't you wear your clothes? Why do you have to borrow hers?"

She twirled a finger around a long, blue lock, discovering how much fun it was to play with hair that flowed down to her back. "Besides, wearing my own clothes didn't feel right at the time."
