What: HOT SPRINGS: HOTEL EDITION
Where: The hot springs RESORT.
When: March 25th - March 29th
Warnings: Hotel shenanigans.

After a relatively normal bus ride, you find yourself at a secluded mountain resort.



The hotel is all-inclusive, with every manner of amenities and activities (skewed toward the relaxing--with saunas and spas and hot tubs aplenty) to keep one occupied for a full five days. Time for some much needed R & R.

It's dangerous to go alone. Take this!

"Something bothering you?"

Gordon mutters without looking up from his copy of "Fear and Loathing in the Mushroom Kingdom". Cyrus had been pacing even more than usual...

Ah, it was Gordon. The man had been receptive to much of what Cyrus had said before.

"Do you not believe it suspicious that in the midst of such conflict and investigations of said, we are shuttled off away from the matter? That the Hands would disrupt our actions in favor of entertainment?"

"Actually no, I don't think it's suspicious at all."

Gordon puts down the book for a moment and turns towards him.

"Think about it. It's Spring Break, a time of year when hundreds of students suffering from cabin fever would be set loose with nothing to do for a week. Now, if left to their own devices most of them would wind up screwing around in Final Destination City, right in the hotbed of all those tensions and outside the protection of the school. With two deaths on record due to the violence already, I can understand why they'd want everyone to stay as far away from the City as possible.

"So, instead the Hands sent all the students here, away from the danger with enough to do to keep them occupied. Faculty too, because the students need chaperones; not to mention the fact that every damn one of us needed a massage and a drink ourselves..."

GEE, YOU THINK HE'S ALLUDING TO ANYONE IN PARTICULAR?

"When you think about it, it's the smartest thing they could have done."

He hated to admit it, but Gordon had a point. Still...

"And if that energy was channeled into something productive rather than this unfocused timewaste, we would be able to pursue an end to this conflict. Though I concede that most are not as diciplined as they ought to be...

He cleared his throat, the steam from the spring congesting him a bit. "A shame. Our full potential is often lost before we reach puberty. By this age, it is far too often gone."

"Hm? What would you have these kids do instead, Cyrus?"

"Focus. Learn. Work on becoming something vital to the world rather than a drain on its resources. Live instead of simply existing."

"They are. But right now they're taking a well-deserved break."

For a brief moment, Cyrus's blank, vaguely hostile expression shifted to one of...confusion? before reverting back as if nothing had happened.

"And yet doing so destroys the purpose. All built up is torn down again. Sloth is seen as a reward...there is nothing substantial to that."

"I wouldn't call it sloth. It's the chance for them to forge connections that will help them later in life, discover passions and maybe even make a couple of mistakes, which is the most potent learning tool of all. No amount of classroom-bound indoctrination is going to do that."

Take it from a man who knows. Straight out of high school into eight years at MIT; At this point in his life he certainly wishes he'd done a little more nothing as a teenager.

"Also keep in mind that finals are in a few weeks. If you don't want a bunch of burnt-out zombies staring blankly at the exam sheet then you have to give them a little time to goof off beforehand. Refresh their minds a little."

"Mistakes are plentiful in the classroom. Although yes, we cannot expect ourselves or them to spend all time in such a setting, we also cannot think that such idleness is fruitful to the learning process. We must inspire those around us to seek out information on their own rather than becoming distracted."

Of course, Cyrus had been actively discouraged from having fun and it showed quite intensely.
