Winter sucks, right? Hayato sure thought so. Well, he didn't hate it, but after a month of cold and dark he decided it was high time for a change. While he could have easily done the selfish thing and fled the city for the entirety of winter break, he liked to consider himself a more generous man than that. Surely his students would love the chance to get away from winter for a few days, too. And if any staff happened to stow away for the trip, well, that was their decision.

So, under the guise of having a swimming class while the school's outdoor pool was out of use, our hero whisked everyone away to lovely Isle Delfino. Once plagued by darkness and vandalism, the whole island had since been kept clean and bright and shiny and boasted a number of tourist attractions. With the only real requirement for the gym class being to get at least some swimming in, there would be plenty of time to explore everything else. Between abandoned eggs that hatch water-soluble yoshis, a giant mall, human pachinko, an amusement park, and the hotel with an abundance of ghost stories, there's bound to be something to do.

All in all, not a bad way to ease in to the new semester. The hardcore classes could start next week, he promised, before setting his class free.

What tropical getaway would be complete without a luau that night? There was barbecue, music, and oh so much dancing and partying that night, as the bonfires burned.

Shantae was there too, to dance the night away. She'd learned hula in preparation for this moment, and was there decked out in a grass skirt and wrap, shaking her hips to the beat.

Piantas were also handing out leis. Hope you like flowers.

And what was a Luau without at least one guy in a cheesy shirt playing Ukulele?

Sonny had bought himself a wondrously garish shirt and was enjoying himself at the Luau. In between bouts of eating A Lot, he was trying to learn how to play his instrument the same way the actual paid musicians did. And he wasn't doing a terrible job of it, either!

So, you can find him either scoffing down roast pork and pineapples, or strumming some upbeat melodies on his four stringed music maker.

Shantae was happy to encourage this, as evidenced by the fact that she came to dance for his music when he played. She was supportive like that.

Being that she was dancing, he started playing over the rainbow! That was a nice song and easy to dance to. He even knew the words, so, he sang along for her as well.

Not the most energetic song she could think of, but hey, it worked. She hula danced for his tune, shaking her hips in time.

When the song ended, she said, "I've never heard that one before. It's nice."

"It's one of my favorites!" Sonny said. "It's one of the very first songs I wanted to learn. That and Rainbow Connection. I really like rainbows."

He did. It was true.

"You danced really well to it, even if you didn't know the song before now!"

"I can tell."

She could tell.

"Thanks a lot," she said, winking. "You've just gotta feel out the beat and move with it! Do what feels natural!"

"I think it helps when it's someone like you, who has a pretty good sense of rhythm! I'm still learning, that!"

The stuff he knew how to do, he knew by simple virtue of practice. He couldn't do anything improvised like that.

"Keep at it, you'll get there," she reassured him. Sonny tried very hard at the dance club, she knew. And when he was ready to put himself out there, she was ready to encourage him.

Melia bounced between watching the fire and watching the cooks prepare the barbeque. The sights, sounds and smells reminded her of nights in Frontier Village. It was delightful!

In between dances, Shantae went to say hello to new arrivals, and it was Melia's turn. She smiled at the girl. "Having fun?" she asked hopefully.

"Oh! Very much so!" Melia giggled despite herself. "Did you put all of this together?"

"Actually, no," Shantae answered. "The Piantas who run the place put it on. I just got in as a dancer! But that's not to say I'm not having fun!"

"Ah! I see. You're quite a natural..." Was that an all right thing to say to a dancer? She didn't know many of them.

"Thanks!" came Felicia's answer. It was an all right thing to say to her, at least. She liked being complimented for her talent. "But I totally work hard at it too. You ever dance before?"

"Dance? Me?" Whoops there goes her face turning bright read. "Oh, I'm... I've never really tried it before."

"Well, why don't you?" she suggested. "You might even like it!"

Vivian had wandered far enough that night and though she was so, so tired after the long day-- WOAH LOOK AT THAT LADY DANCING!

Vivian was shy at first, watching Shantae with alit eyes for the longest time, but eventually she ran off and came back with just her bikini top and black skirt to try and match Shantae's style. And she tried to dance with her - well, like her - next to her! Oh, you know.

Shantae certainly didn't mind. Vivian was very inexperienced, but she was trying, and Shantae could appreciate that.

When the song ended, she ruffled the shorter girl's hair. "Couldn't resist, huh?"

The contact made her laugh rather instinctively. She quickly nodded. "I really... like music!" She bounced on her toes a little before asking, "Uhm, I'm Vivian!"

"I'm Shantae," the genie replied. "You ever danced before?" she asked.

Getting her name in return had Vivian beaming. It was like a surprise every time!!

She tapped her chin thoughtfully, wondering if she ever did anything like dancing, then remembered a few incident where she had. "Yes! Uhm, it was a little slower..."

"You mean at like prom?" Shantae asked. "Good for you!"

It startled her, really. Was that really good? "Why is it good?"

"Because dancing is fun! You burn some energy, you get to express yourself, and have a good time!" she declared. "I'm glad you can have fun with it."
