Sometimes... Sometimes people just needed things. Basic necessities, food, clothes, video games... Of course, after the big Angry Birds attack a few days ago, it was likely people needed to replace broken things too. (How did that even happen anyway...)

Whatever the reason, the mall was the place to be.

"Sure. But trust me, it's better'n some worlds you could have wound up in. The trouble here's a whole different level of strange compared to where I'm from... but it's manageable."

Assuming she'd come here by accident as opposed to arriving by choice.

"Definitely seemingly much easier to handle than where I'm from... For sure..." Because she'd hate that the fate that often befalls on Azeroth if it came here... This place doesn't deserve that pain.

Shaking her head, she offered an awkward, timid smile. "But... t-that's not the most pleasant of subjects right?"

"Hmph. I expect you're right." he replied, scratching at his beard and looking sheepish. "...my bad."

Conversation was never really his forte.

Ronnae shifted in place a bit uncomfortably. She hadn't wanted to just shut down the conversation alltogether, she just wanted a change of subject...

"S-sorry..." she voiced in a soft tone.

For a few moments she wondered if it was best to just walk away right now.

"W-well... if you ever need any help, you know, with shop or whatever. I'm available." Hurray for social awkwards!

Onward awkward soldiers.

"Oh. Uh. Sure." he replied with a nod and a shrug, feeling really weird. Had he cut off the conversation? Probably. But he'd been trying to abide by her suggestion that the conversation wasn't pleasant. He could have continued, of course. 'No, I'm serious. In my world, more people want to shoot you to steal your shoes than don't, and that's if a clicker doesn't get you. Hope you're good at making shivs.'

Not the best way to try and be... friendly.

"Much obliged you stopped by to say Hello, Ma'am."

"Of course." she replied a bit more at ease.

"If you'd like company too, that'd be alright too, I mean, we seem to be shopping for similar items..." Sans the clothing...

"...I mean, if you got nothin' better to do." Joel replied after a silence.

"I'm not... uh. Not real good at conversation and whatnot. Gettin' better. But where I'm from, I never did a whole lot of conversating. I'm not even totally sure that's a word." That's how bad at this he was.

"At least for a bit would be fine... I... I'm not all that good at it either I'm afraid." at least not until there was some sort of trust there, and even then, it just eased things a little bit.

Great. So neither one of them was a good conversationalist. That was encouraging on one hand (At least they were in the same boat.) and discouraging on the other (Because that boat was going to be quiet and awkward as shit.) but it was what they had to work with.

"So. Uh... what're your view on proprietary bolts? Ones you need a special wrench for? Worth th' hassle?"

They tended to be made of high quality materials to justify their own existence but damn were they a pain if you didn't have the right kind of wrench.

This is a normal person conversation topic. I'm pretty damn sure it is, anyway.

"Depends, everything usually has it place and if it doesn't, you make it." At least Goblins and Gnomes would say so. They'd make something work no matter what. Now whether it worked well was another story.

She did smile a little, this was much easier than talking about normal stuff.

"I can get behind that. I spent a lot of years makin' things work that normally wouldn't. Weapon modification, mostly. Small arms."

He hadn't yet met a weapon that he couldn't improve.

"Really? Oh you'll have to show me then!" Because she loved the hell out of making weapons too. She actually used a lot of her creations and implemented them in her style.

"You got an interest in that, huh? Guess it makes sense. Engineering and all. Sure. I can show you what I've put together since arrivin'." he said. "It's back at my dorm, o'course."

"I deal in a lot of weapons in my profession... Well, mainly since there's always a war back home." Which wasn't the best description but there was very little denying that there really was a constant string of wars on Azeroth.

"I hear you. Kind of the same where I'm from. Couple that with not bein' allowed to move around too much or transport goods, and you figure out real quick that jury-riggin' is the best way to get the most out of the few weapons you can find."

"Can't say there's much freedom to do so either when you're on the battlefield." She sighed knowing that it was always worse when the supply lines were cut off.

"But it did breed for maximum creativity. Some very ingenious inventions came out of such dire straits."

"Well, I've heard that necessity is the mother of invention." He replied. "Always found that to ring true."

"You guys have that quote too huh? That's pretty neat." she offered a small smile. Sometimes even when things were so much more different, there were still some interesting similarities.

"Really? You got that one in your world? I'll be damned. Guess some things are more'n just universal, huh?"

He actually found that to be kind of neat. Well, it did make sense - it was true enough, so, his world couldn't be the only one to have discovered it.

"Would be interesting to know which other sayings exist in both places."

Ronnae laughed, a bit muffled as she covered her mouth a little with her hand but she smiled nonetheless.

"It would be... Maybe someone's made a blog or something since I can easily see someone living here trying to grab simple things like that from all the worlds that converge in this apparent nexus."

"Like a catalogue of 'em? Probably not a project for me. I don't spend a lot of time on the computer. Though, if someone else made one, I'd probably contribute to it. Texas has a lot of little sayings and figures of speech. Would be interestin' to see how many of them are more widespread'n just the Lone Star State." He replied with the barest hint of a chuckle in his own voice.

"Texas? So that's where you're from?" she paused for a moment, tapping her chin. "Can't say i've ever heard of it." Which just added tot he fact that there were probably hundreds if not thousands of worlds that could be converging in this nexus.

"Yes Ma'am. Texas born and bred." he replied. "It's a state in my home country of America, which is sometimes called the United States of America. There's fifty of 'em in all."

He missed it. The way it was before the not!zombie apocalypse, anyway.

"It's known for good steak, hot weather and a good Football team that could have stood to be better some years."

"Sounds like a good place." She didn't mind hot weather, she'd been on plenty desert expedition as it was, or to hotter places.

"Must be rough, being away from home." She might have been speaking for herself. "But you seem to have gotten used to being here."

He shrugged.

"To be truthful, Ma'am, Texas hasn't been like that for more'n two decades, now. There was a mutated fungus called Cordyceps, took people over and turned them into flesh eating monsters. More than half the world's population, so far as we know. World fell apart after that."

He looked around.

"Even two years ago, I figured I'd never go to a hardware store again. Buy food at a counter that wasn't a grate over a fire servin' grilled rat. Trust me, there ain't much 'getting used to' here. It's a much better situation."
