Sometimes... Sometimes people just needed things. Basic necessities, food, clothes, video games... Of course, after the big Angry Birds attack a few days ago, it was likely people needed to replace broken things too. (How did that even happen anyway...)

Whatever the reason, the mall was the place to be.

"Yeah. You got that right. Guurgle is one helluva thing."

You could find so many weapon schematics on the internet.

Ronnae laughed, "I swear, I can't get over the fact that saying that makes me think of Murlocs back home."

"Murlocs?" Joel asked. "Not familiar."

[shiest_sunbeam]

"Right, sorry... forget sometimes." she shook her head and smiled apologetically.

"They're an aquatic race in Azeroth, very tribal. They're speach is what you said reminded me since they speak in guttural gurgles and the like." Ronnae cleared her throat and gave it her best shot at an impression.

"Mmmrrrrgggggleee Mgglllrrgl...." And then realized she must look and sound stupid and quickly looked down, again completely red faced. "O-or something like that..." meep!

Joel chuckled a little.

"Alright. OK. Nice impression. You paint a pretty good mental picture."

Riwane was still embarrassed but at least he didn't make fun of her.

"They're nice enough when they're not trying to kill you. I've managed to rescue a few of their orhphaned eggs and hatched them. Have a nursery for little ones like that."

"Really? You got a nursery for 'em?" He asked. "That sounds kind've time consuming."

"Well, it's more like a place for them to live at for a while... More like, ironically enough, pets?" Did that make sense and didn't sound as horrible as it might have?

"I guess the closest thing in this world would be the Pokemon?"

[golonghorns]

"Alright." Joel replied with a nod. "I guess I get that, sort've. We don't really got anythin' like that in my world. We have regular pets... dogs, cats, rabbits. Horses, you know. Or maybe you don't. I don't know if they got those where you're from."

[shiest_sunbeam]

"Oh we do!" she replied with a nod. "And an assortment of hundreds more species and the like. Azeroth is a rather varied world."

"Huh.... maybe you'd know somethin' about this little fella..."

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and cycled through a few pictures before presenting Ronnae with a picture of his Dog. Well. Coyote-Rattlesnake hybrid. It was chewing on a rawhide bone, exposing long, rattlesnake fangs and a flickering tongue to the camera.

"Name's Callus. Found 'im near the woods a few months back. Guessing he wandered in from someone's world, but couldn't tell you who's. Maybe yours?"

"Hmm," She took a good look at the creature. While similar in some things to some of the creatures she had seen before, there wasn't quite anything like it in Azeroth.

Shaking her head she looked back to Joel. "Can't say for sure. There's similarities with some of the creatures, but I haven't seen one like this. Closest thing I can think of is a chimera."

[golonghorns]

"Well, it was worth a shot." Joel said, taking his phone back and slipping it into his pocket. "Chimera sounds about right. He's like a rattlesnake and a coyote from my world fused somehow. Bein' as you got dogs, cats, horses and such in your world..." He shrugged.

"Actually, if you don't mind me askin'..." He said "You're not quite like anyone from my world. You mentioned Dwarves and such from your world, but what are you, exactly?"

Wow rude Joel!

"Err," look at her, just look at her turning red and awkward. See what you've done? Tsk tsk...

"Well, I'm a halfbreed... H-half orc and half e-elf to be exact..."

[golonghorns]

Look. He SAID 'if you don't mind me asking' so if she minded she should have told him so! You can't blame him for that!

"Oh. That's pretty interestin'." He offered, noticing how red she was getting. "We don't have either of those in my world. Just Humans. You look kind've like I hit a sore spot or somethin'? I, uh, didn't mean to."

That was sort of an apology.

"Eh, n-no I mean... Halfbreeds aren't looked on very kindly back home. For the most part..." Especially by her elven heritage. They were proud, super egocentric and anyone that wasn't them was below them... Not that her orcish side was too much better about halfbreeds, thinking that the blood, honor and power had been muddled and weakened since it had been with an elf. Had she been half-x were x was a strong and proud race, it'd be different...

"It's okay, it's just a sore spot sometimes."

"That's stupid." Joel replied gruffly and was almost content to leave it there... but then again, maybe a little clarification wouldn't go amiss.

"In my world, there was a stigma against mixed-race folks too. We only got Humans but they come in a couple different colors, and when folks of different races had a kid, the kid tended to have a hard time. That just went by the wayside, though, as mixed marriages and whatnot became more common. Now, where I'm from, that kind've thinking is considered real old fashioned."

Ronnae looked genuinely saddened and gave Joel an apologetic look.

"I... I guess ignorance like that is in other worlds too..." she sighed, her voice low.

"You'd hope it wasn't..."

"You'd hope, but that ain't realistic. There's always going to be some stupid asshole out there who decides to dislike you for this reason or that reason. Whatever makes 'em feel better about themselves." Joel replied with a shrug. "Best way t'deal with it is understand it's about them. It ain't about you. They've got a hangup and it ain't your job to prove 'em wrong. Folks with a lick of sense in their heads'll see their bellyachin' for what it is."

Too bad Ronnae wasn't one of those folk who could see it as that. She was guilty of believing such ignorant accusations and much much worse. So she simply stayed in silence for a while, not really knowing how to respond.

After a beat though, she looked away and spoke sheepishly. "Maybe someday it won't be like that."

[golonghorns]

"If my world's any indication, that will happen." Joel replied with another shrug. "There will always be the occasional asshole out there, but eventually they become the minority and folks ignore 'em or worse. For what it's worth, I got no problem with people of any bloodline so long as they ain't trying to kill me. Half Orc, half Elf - so long as you ain't aiming to shoot me or mine? We're good."

Ronnae nodded in turn, "I believe that's a general rule of thumb... as they say."

Feeling a bit awkward, she gave Joel a polite bow. "I think I should finish up my shopping. I was thinking of tinkering for a little bit before heading home. D-don't want to take up your time either!"

[golonghorns]

"Rule of thumb. Yeah. We got that one, too."

He nodded.

"Then you better get goin' - obliged that you took the time to chat. Good luck with your tinkerin'."

[shiest_sunbeam]

"It was pleasant, and thanks. Maybe we can catch up some more later on."

With that, Ronnae waved and headed out.
