Winter sucks, right? Hayato sure thought so. Well, he didn't hate it, but after a month of cold and dark he decided it was high time for a change. While he could have easily done the selfish thing and fled the city for the entirety of winter break, he liked to consider himself a more generous man than that. Surely his students would love the chance to get away from winter for a few days, too. And if any staff happened to stow away for the trip, well, that was their decision.

So, under the guise of having a swimming class while the school's outdoor pool was out of use, our hero whisked everyone away to lovely Isle Delfino. Once plagued by darkness and vandalism, the whole island had since been kept clean and bright and shiny and boasted a number of tourist attractions. With the only real requirement for the gym class being to get at least some swimming in, there would be plenty of time to explore everything else. Between abandoned eggs that hatch water-soluble yoshis, a giant mall, human pachinko, an amusement park, and the hotel with an abundance of ghost stories, there's bound to be something to do.

All in all, not a bad way to ease in to the new semester. The hardcore classes could start next week, he promised, before setting his class free.

"Um..." How to answer that question. She knew how it sounded, and wanted to be sure she didn't give the wrong impression. She and Inigo were friends. Good friends, She knew about him, she knew about his past, she knew about his love of dance. So she decided to settle on something.

"Yeah. We were pretty close."

That cleared everything right up.

She couldn't really stop herself from asking it and she blame it on the whole 'being his mother' thing.

"Were you two courting?" Because she imagined Inigo might not have told her even if he had the chance to. It was, after all, something of a ridiculously private question and most people wouldn't have had a right to ask it.

And Olivia almost expected hostility in return.

Obviously it didn't clear everything up, and Shantae immediately raised her hands in defense.

"No! No, not at all!" Well, Inigo might have wanted to, given how much he flirted, but still. "We weren't courting or anything like that!"

"N-not that I would have had an issue with it or anything," Olivia clarified with a little laugh, thinking it was the closest she'd come to sounding like Inigo's mother. Or sister, considering that there was no time jump for her and he was... what. A son from the future. Or so he'd said.

"I was just curious," she continued, reassuring Shantae with a sheepish smile. "I'm sorry Inigo didn't stay longer."

Or maybe there was another possibility. Another possibility that Shantae hadn't considered before now. Perhaps the reason she was so defensive about this was...

"...So how close were YOU to Inigo? Did you have a crush on him?"

Because clearly she was too young to be his mother.

Olivia flushed. Just outright blushed to the roots of her hair. "N-no! Nothing like that." Because it was flustering well enough that even the possibility was... Well. Incredibly worth being embarrassed about, and that came from someone who was embarrassed about most things.

"It's really... Ah. It's kind of complicated," she admitted with a sheepish look. "I'm not even sure how much I believe it myself." Lifting her shoulders with a shrug, she continued. "Inigo is from my future. A... Uhm. We're related."

"Like... cousins?" Because she really didn't look old enough for what she was clearly getting at.
