The entire school has become covered in mistletoe overnight. It grows out of the walls! The ceilings! Everywhere you least expect it? HOW CAN THIS BE??

It's probably best not to think about it. Attempts to uproot the plants or burn them away only makes the plants grow back faster. For the time being, it seems the school must live with it.

The astute might find an unassuming note pinned the bulletin board in the main office. WHAT COULD IT POSSIBLY MEAN??

TWO WHOLE WEEKS. Aoi was already looking forward to them.

Right now, however, there was a more pressing problem, and that was Ishimaru sick and locked in his room.

"Don't be silly! It has to be boring in here by yourself!"
forgetbeam: (pic#6045325)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-18 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Excitement's a... it's not the way to recover." He sniffed and tucked his hands into his sleeves in a subconscious effort to keep warm. He was freezing outside and burning up within. "It's for that reason I won't be attending Maizono's performance tomorrow, either."

Oh boy Aoi are you ready to deal with some fever tripping. Should've run, girl.
glazedandconfused: (you know what you gotta do)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-18 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
"That's why I brought things for relaxing," she insisted, hefting the bundle of towels and other things in her arms for emphasis. The relaxation quality of the movies she'd rented from the library were kind of debatable, but films were a passive activity, so that totally counted.

Anything she was going to say after that was completely lost to what seemed to be some kind of feverish ramble. She didn't answer for a moment, the smile completely gone off her face, trying to puzzle out whether or not he was joking, or something. But Ishimaru wouldn't joke about something like this, and they both knew full well that Maizono was dead.

"Ishimaru," she said carefully, setting down her towels, "I think you should lay down."
forgetbeam: (Save it for a rainy day)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-18 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
His half-exhausted, half-MAN SULKING expression didn't change at all, making it pretty clear he didn't realize there was anything at all unusual about what he just said. He was far too preoccupied with knowing that he really did need to go lay down and sleep but that he couldn't do it as long as Aoi insisted on staying.

But he could begrudgingly take a seat at the edge of his bed and resist the urge to burrow into the pile of blankets he had accumulated. Hopefully a certain biker didn't mind sick germs all over his quilt and the spare in the closet because Kiyotaka had monopolized all of them.

"You brought... towels?"
glazedandconfused: (we swim swim swim)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-19 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
WELL at least he was sitting on the bed like she told him to. That did not, however, put her mind at ease, and without thinking she placed a hand on his forehead, confirming that yes, he was running a fever.

"Did you take any medicine?"

She wasn't sure if he was just delusional, or actually remembering things from their missing years.

"Right, the towels. Have you ever tried kanpu masatsu?"
forgetbeam: (Don't talk with your mouth full)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-19 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Aw man he didn't need to be babied by people feeling up his forehead like that. He knocked her hand away with a fierce headbutt... in his mind. In reality, he just kind of weakly leaned into it and sighed.

"Ha ha... I thought you were going to suggest the bath."

Wow, even a normal and healthy Kiyotaka had enough social awareness not to say that or even think something so outrageous in the first place. It didn't even occur to him now that it would be wiser to mention that he was fully prepared to decline the offer.

"Kanpu masatsu... I'm afraid it's too late for preventative measures like that...!"
glazedandconfused: (you know what you gotta do)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-20 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
"That's okay!" Sure, Aoi had known it was probably too little too late, but this was the easiest way she could feel like she was helping. "It still makes me feel a little better when I'm sick, and then you'll know how to do it for later."

With that, she took one of the towels and began to demonstrate, dragging it behind her back. "Like this, see? I think it's more effective if you do it outside in the cold, but you're already sick, so we probably shouldn't go out there."
forgetbeam: (pic#6335284)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-21 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
"It's cold enough in here," he said of the well heated room. He took one of the towels and began to mimic her action - just like following the instructor in elementary school again - but quickly decided that it really was too cold and it was put to much better use just wrapping it around himself.
glazedandconfused: (hey mr grumpy gills)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-21 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it was a good thought. Perhaps he could save it for later and prevent himself from getting sick in the future. That did nothing, however, to solve their current predicament.

"For now you should relax, then. I brought you some movies! And I can go make you tea if you want."
forgetbeam: (pic#6853795)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-21 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It now had sick germs all over it. TARNISHED FOREVER.

As embarrassing as having her fuss over him was, there was a part of being taken care of that was... kind of nice. He decided it wasn't worth fighting against any longer.

"Tea sounds excellent. It promotes..." ...something... or another. He knew this. He did. He growled a little in frustration and tucked his knees up to his chest. Whatever, that wasn't worth it either. Time to just pathetically give up and switch focus, and his (incredibly shaky) focus was on the perfect girl taking care of him.

"...Anyway, you are very... caring and responsible." She really was perfect. "When it's safe to leave, let me introduce you to my parents."
glazedandconfused: (keep swimming)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-22 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Safe to..."

Aoi had always been a little slow on the uptake. Someone like Naegi or Kirigiri would be able to figure out what was wrong in a second...but Naegi and Kirigiri weren't here. After the comment about Maizono's concert, she'd been trying to put the pieces together--something was obviously wrong with him, some kind of fever-induced something-or-other. What she did know was that he seemed to have his wires crossed. Aoi sunk down to sit on the edge of the bed.

"Ishimaru...we're not in Hope's Peak any more, remember?"
forgetbeam: (Frankly my dear you are terrifying)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-22 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"What? No, of course not, this is Smash A..ca...demy..."

His brow furrowed in clear confusion. Right, this was Smash where nobody was killing each other and the city outside had been safe to roam again for a while, so what was he talking about?

"...My mind is not at its best," he confessed, looking away. "This isn't Hope's Peak. You're absolutely right."
glazedandconfused: (you know what you gotta do)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-23 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
"It's okay," she said. It wasn't his fault that he was sick, after all. "It's probably the fever. Just stay in bed and relax, okay? I'll get you that tea and anything else you need."

BUT THEN SHE COULDN'T MOVE OFF THE BED BECAUSE MISTLETOE HAD GROWN OUT OF THE CEILING WHILE THEY WEREN'T LOOKING.
forgetbeam: (Default)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-23 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, mistletoe, take it to the kink meme.

Kiyotaka just nodded and finally flopped back onto the bed, keeping himself tightly bundled in the towel, and stared at the ceiling.

He was very sure that there was something off about it.

Ah.

Well, maybe it wasn't one of the cursed ones. It could have been just the regular kind. He glanced over at Aoi, who would surely be standing up and going on her way to get tea ANY SECOND NOW.
glazedandconfused: (just swim swim swim)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-26 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Aoi seemed puzzled for a moment, and tried to stand up. Then she tried again. And one more time for good measure.

"Ishimaru, I think I'm stuck."
forgetbeam: (P-Panchira?!)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-26 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's up there," he mumbled, pointing weakly at the ceiling. That was great, just great, he was going to be trapped sick in a bed under some cursed plant and he'd need someone around to give him smooches whenever he so much as needed to get up to pee and his two primary options for caretakers were equally awkward for Reasons.

Thanks for nothing, holiday season.

It wasn't that he didn't want to kiss Aoi. Not that he thought about it or anything! More than a few times...! But really, he was in no state to be kissing anyone right now. Who knew how many people he'd already spread the illness to? And besides, how did you go about smooching someone you actually had some inkling of wanting to. When it crossed the line from obligation to something more personal, it became so much more difficult.

"Do you... know about this yet?"
glazedandconfused: (ha ha ha ha ha)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2013-12-30 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Aoi swallowed hard and nodded--it shouldn't have been a problem, really. She'd been giving cheek smooches all day. This, however, was just embarrassing, maybe because it was something she'd thought about before--though admittedly under better circumstances. Another part of her was entirely convinced that she was going to mess things up, or he wasn't going to like her.

And now here she was, stuck on his bed while he was delusional with fever.

"Yeah, I do. We have to...we have to kiss, right?"
forgetbeam: (I WANNA KNOW WHAT LOVE IIIIS)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2013-12-30 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Right."

Oh good, she knew.

OH NO, SHE KNEW.

At least having to explain it to her could have been a good opportunity to delay it and hope something else happened. If his face weren't already flushed with fever it would be pretty red anyway. He was going to get her sick and she was going to hate him and he'd never get the opportunity again-

But, you know. He was definitely too busy with school things to even want the opportunity, anyway, right? HA...

Okay, he had to just man up and do it. She would be on her way and he would get tea out of it.

"In that case... I... am going to free you! Prepare yourself!"

Yeah right, it didn't matter how much determination he worked up before leaning closer, he still ended up frozen a few inches from her face.
glazedandconfused: (keep swimming)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2014-01-03 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Aoi flinched, some kind of reflexive effort to prepare for a kiss that never came. She cracked an eyelid to see him almost comically frozen just a bit short of his target, and she perhaps would have found it funnier if she wasn't so nervous.

She didn't know why she was nervous either--surely this wouldn't be any different than the platonic, necessary kisses she'd been exchanging all day, but here she was, heart pounding in her throat because Ishimaru was inches from her face.

Ishimaru--sweet, awkward, well-meaning Ishimaru, who worked so hard and tried his best, even when the goal was something silly like meeting every week to watch an anime about swimming. Sure, he still didn't quite grasp many of the nuances of teenage social interaction, and often he was much too intense for his own good, but he was, above all other things, a good friend. Maybe at one point, she'd invited him to watch silly shows with her because she'd felt a little sorry for him and she wanted him to loosen up (for his own good, of course), but now Aoi was feeling something entirely different as she realized how much she'd truly enjoyed their sessions.

If one could even call them sessions. Maybe they'd started that way, but they certainly weren't simple study meetings any more. They'd meet and talk and eat snacks and help each other with their homework and watch silly shows and she'd watch him come out of his shell and they'd have fun.

Aoi was still trying to piece together what that meant.

In the few moments she allowed herself to study his face, she wished she could drag up memories of those missing years but as always, she came up empty and that hurt more than anything else, eaten away by the frustration of knowing that at one point they'd been something to each other but being unable to recall the whats and whys of it. The worst of it was that there was nothing she could do except keep trying and hope that one day it wouldn't be an exercise in futility.

With that thought in her mind, she could do little else but close the rest of the distance, eyes sliding shut and lips meeting his perhaps slightly less tentatively than she intended.

Unfortunately, the mistletoe left him no stranger to full-on lip-to-lip contact (or lip-to-cheek, or lip-to-forehead, etc), but something about this was different from most of them. A little jolt at having the thing he'd been heavily anticipating finally come at him, maybe a touch of relief, but mostly a lot of panic over not knowing what to do next. He knew that all it took was a second to free someone, but he found himself not wanting this particular moment to end that soon.

Not that he'd stop her from being the one to end it, but the fact that she hadn't yet felt loaded with meaning he couldn't even begin to hope to decipher.

Unlike Aoi's, his eyes were wide open, staring at the face in front of him. He was still pretty clueless (read: repressed as hell) when it came to deducing whether or not a woman was supposed to be considered pretty or anything, but he would count Aoi in that category in a heartbeat. And his was threatening to pound right out of his chest at this rate. But what he found more important than that was that she was so earnest and hardworking and devoted to her passions - this crush he failed to acknowledge as such began when he saw her in her natural pool habitat, after all - and most of all, whether they were studying or watching TV or just talking, he genuinely had fun with her.

On top of all that, the fever muddling his memories and sense of time all together unearthed a stronger attachment than ever.

Too bad it didn't help him figure out the important things right now, like: where should he put his hands? Was he supposed to smoosh his face more against hers? Why were longer kisses so difficult? Maybe if he just... put his hands on her shoulders...

Inexperience aside, he was ready to consider it a perfect moment that nobody could ruin.

(It was about to get totally ruined.)

Aoi had not, admittedly, thought past this moment, and wasn't sure what she expected, exactly. It wasn't like she was well-practiced in the smooching department, but at least Ishimaru didn't seem to be, either. She thought, anyway, it wasn't like she had much frame of reference.

What she did know was that 1) this was definitely going on for longer than a platonic friend kiss, 2) his hands had relocated to her shoulders, and 3) it was kind of nice.

The direct result was that she saw no reason to stop.

MOOD RUINER MONDO OOWADA HAS ENTERED THE STAGE

and had stumbled upon a magical, elusive unicorn of a situation. Like, he stood there for more than 6 seconds and they were still going at it, on Kiyotaka's BED, KIYOTAKA, kissing a GIRL, on his bed, moving to third base before he even knew they were a thing. The gravity of the experience was like watching a child give birth to its mother.

He was gonna say something but he couldn't remember for the life of him what it was anymore. It didn't look like they even noticed him but he blurted it out anyway. "...Fuck, 'scuse me." Then he shut the door behind him and left in a swirling daze of confusion and maybe a helping of soreness and jealousy for multiple reasons, like, where did this even come from and why didn't he know anything about it? He felt kind of cheated. You knew your love life was a pathetic mess when Kiyotaka Ishimaru was getting laid before you.
forgetbeam: (SCREAMING)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2014-01-04 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
OH GOD WHAT

OH NO

That voice was all it took for Kiyotaka to jerk away from the kiss like he was scalded, because he knew it was totally indecent and Mondo had seen and NO MONDO WHERE WERE YOU GOING HE COULD EXPLAIN.

"Wait, it's--!"

Far too late was what it was. Kiyotaka buried his face in the crook of his arm and let loose some more gross coughing, followed by a mortified "AAAAUGHHHH."

Ah, romance.
glazedandconfused: (keep swimming)

[personal profile] glazedandconfused 2014-01-04 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Huh?"

Aoi's eyes flew open just in time to see Corncobhead high-tail it out the door. She may have been fairly oblivious to many things, but she definitely knew that Mondo's reaction had not been a good one. How long had he been standing there, anyway?

SHE FUCKED UP. THEY FUCKED UP.

Now that she was free, she wasted no time in springing to her feet. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have--I'll get you that tea and then I'll go."
forgetbeam: (I can't)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2014-01-06 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
They fucked up so much.

"Right, that's-- it's a good idea-- thank you."

He practically mumbled it, making no effort to be subtle about avoiding meeting her gaze. Why was this so embarrassing?! He'd be able to explain it all to Mondo when he got back later anyway, right? Though mostly he hoped to avoid the subject entirely.

(no subject)
