Dorm Log: School's in session

Who: All of Smash.
What: Dorm log! September edition.
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus.
When: The span of September 15th - 30th.
Warnings: HAHAHAHAHA.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's how this works. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Just add a thread with the room number (and date/time, if it matters) and the characters that reside there (just for reference!). You do not have to use one character's thread as a dual-purpose for both characters if you do not want to. Doesn't have to be a dorm room, either, if you have something else in mind. It could be the common room or the student science lab or wherever. So how's that first week of school been treating you? How big's your pile of homework? Sure, you could be doing that. But why do that when you could decimate your friendships by playing a round of Giana Party 4? Host a girl's-only slumber party! Spy on a girl's-only slumber party! Dare someone to spend the night in the haunted dorm! Slip a (fake) love letter beneath that special someone's door! Etcetera, etcetera... I'm sure you can think of something to get your bad self up to.

"Well, let's see," replied Rhys as he coaxed the rest of the scrap he'd left behind earlier out. He set his sights on the tiny screen and frowned. "No, there's more... Let's try this drawer-thingy right here..."

He opened the one on the side. SURE ENOUGH, A TREASURE TROVE OF UNUSABLE PAPER. "Ulki! Just what were you trying to print in here?"

"Copies," he responded, but then found it necessary to add, "It's... detention slips. I submit them to the headmasters in a report."

With the way Rhys reacted, Ulki wasn't sure what the problem was. It seemed like quite the problem to be sure, but... The hawk laguz rounded the printer to see what the problem was for himself and just stared at the papers jammed uselessly into the drawer of the printer. Where did he go wrong? "... ...I see."

[gentlesaint]

"We'll just have to sort this mess out," reassured Rhys as he got to work plucking papers from every nook and cranny. "It shouldn't be too big of a hassle." Once his hands were full, he shuffled over to the recycle bin and dropped them in.

Ulki assisted him, pulling out some more of the jammed papers and making sure not to leave anything behind. He copied Rhys and disposed of them and then returned to the printer to see if that was all it needed to start again.

He stooped down to look inside of the printer before directing his attention back to Rhys. "Is that it?"

"Let's just have a quick peek," sang Rhys as he moved back over to check the industrial machine. Breaking into a smile wider than this type of situation normally called for, he proclaimed, "Yay! It's all clear, Ulki! You may try again."

Ulki didn't need to change much regarding the settings, but he'd removed his stack of slips earlier when there was some issue he didn't understand. He walked over to the counter and retrieved his detention slips and placed them in the tray before hitting the SCAN button.

It seemed to be working fine again. That was a relief.

Rhys waited with bated breath. The scanner hummed and the green line cursed beneath the piece of paper as slowly as the last minute of class.

Would it jam?

"How many copies are you making?" he decided to ask.

[hawkhearsyou]

"Two copies of each document, totaling 32," replied Ulki, paying close attention to the rhythmic noises the printer made as it processed the job. Nothing seemed to be causing any problems yet, and it was easily close to half way done with the job.

[gentlesaint]

Until it exploded.

"AAAAAAAH!" screamed Rhys.

[hawkhearsyou]

It seriously just. Exploded.

Ulki only had but a moment to react, and it wasn't enough of a moment to get Rhys out of the way, much less himself. It was just a click!'s worth of a moment for Ulki to go wide eyed, and that was it.

Just as abrupt as explosions were to happen, it subsided instantly, leaving ink all over the faculty lounge. It didn't spare Rhys and Ulki, either. Ulki stared at Rhys, but didn't have it in him to say anything more. It was just so loud and so much of a shock, and now there was ink all over.

".....Wow." Rhys could only stare at the devastation while clutching onto Ulki's arm as he sat on the ground with dark stains blotted all over his white uniform, shocked to his core. He'd been knocked off his feet. "Did that... really just happen?"

"...It did."

Explosions just so happened to be rather commonplace at a crazy school like Smash Academy, but for the printer to do that... Nothing was safe.

"We should be lucky that it wasn't more severe than this." Even though they were both alright, Ulki felt guilty that he didn't react fast enough in the face of the explosion. He didn't have much time to do it, but he could have if he stayed on his toes. If it were worse, the both of them could have been seriously hurt.

[gentlesaint]

Using Ulki's arm as support, he pulled himself back to his feet, somewhat wobbly. Resigned, he said, "The only thing we can do now is file a report to get it replaced. I'm sorry about your copies."

[hawkhearsyou]

Oh, right. The copies. The machine had totally obliterated the originals, too. Ulki wondered why he even bothered to use the copier when it was such trouble for him all the time.

"It's... fine," he said quietly. Really, it didn't matter quite as much after all that happened. He'd find a solution. "Let's just file the report. Get it out of the way."
