Once upon a time I was falling in love...
Who: Sonny, Voile
When: May 18 - Early Afternoon
What: She's showing him the contest hall. And treating him to lunch.
Where: FDC
Warnings: Hardly.
"When was the last time we spent a day together like this?"
She'd asked it to herself as her slow steps took her to Sonny's new room. It was a shame that he wouldn't be rooming with Vinnie any longer, but she had a feeling the Venusaur would be quite pleased to have such a delightful welcoming. Nothing like coming home to family, after all. And not too long ago, she wouldn't have known too much about what that was like.
She had an idea of it in the present, however, and the mere thought made her smile.
Voile stopped outside of his door, looking ready for the summer. After a few cycles of lacing her hands together and unlacing them, she finally sucked up all of her courage and knocked.
And hopefully he hadn't forgotten.

She certainly didn't feel great. If anything, she almost felt worse because he thought she was. She didn't get that at all. He was so genuinely interested in her. Okay. He so genuinely loved her. And that was slightly terrifying. In an exciting way. She wasn't sure.
"I'd probably love myself if I could. Maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea. Better to be modest than it is to be vain."
no subject
Simple logic, but it was sound in Sonny's mind.
"It's a balance that you have to get right. It's OK to like yourself but if you start being a jerk about it, then it puts people off. You can like yourself and still be modest. I don't think there's any kind of rule that says you can't do that. I like Me, but I don't use that as an excuse to brag or anything."
no subject
"I don't think you've ever bragged about anything since we've known each other," she admitted. "But I also don't think you have a harmful bone in your body. You're always thinking of other people, but I'm not sure you think of yourself enough."
A slight frown and she gave him an encouraging rub to his forearm with her free hand. "I hope you'll learn how to do that. Helping other people is always great, but it's good if you help yourself, too."

Squeezing his hand once more, she gave him a somewhat sly side glance. "How about this? Let's make a promise, Sonny. You promise me that once a day you'll do something that's genuinely, truly for you. And I'll make you a promise as well, of your choosing."
no subject
He paused. He would have to do something genuinely, truly for himself every day that didn't include seconds and thirds at dinner? He wondered what that could be. Well, maybe he could listen to more of his favorite music? Maybe go different places on his own? He could see how that could be fun.
"OK. I promise!"
What would he want her to promise, though? She'd already said she was in love with him and that was really all he wanted from her.
"I don't know what to ask you to do, though? What would you like me to ask you to promise to do?"
no subject
Quieting herself, her head tipped from side to side as she gave his question some serious contemplation. "Hm. I asked you to make me a promise that was really important to me. So you should have me make a promise about something that's really important to you."
But she had a feeling that it sounded a lot more simple to say it than it was to actually do it.

Sonny scratched the back of his head, and his brow creased in thought. He really couldn't think of a single thing he wanted her to promise to do. She had asked him to do something for himself and really, he wanted to ask her to do the same thing. But he didn't want to just copy the promise he'd made her make, because that might look like he wasn't taking it seriously. Which he was.
"Voile, can I think about it and ask you later?" he finally decided on.
no subject
With a smile, she seemed satisfied by his choice of action. He could take all the time to think about it that he wanted. Fact of the matter was that she thought if they made a promise together, they'd feel closer to one another. But was that really such a good thing with what she was getting herself involved with?
Probably not. And she probably knew it.
"I was thinking," she began as her head tipped and she eyed the ground. "That maybe we should just... relax today. I know I said I was going to show you the contest hall, but I really like the idea of sitting down for some lunch with you and just talking. I missed talking with you a lot."
no subject
"Let's just do that, then!"
no subject
She smiled a little shyly, "...Is that okay?"
no subject
He reached out and hugged her again. She wanted to give him all of her attention? Well, that was more than fine by him. He'd soak up that attention like a sponge and give it back to her two-fold.
no subject
So rather than to let him go so quickly, she took a moment to consider the situation, then lifted her arms and hugged him back. Just a sweet embrace. An affectionate one. One that made her remember how much she'd missed him and how very happy she was to see him again.
"Thank you for understanding," she replied to him gently. "That means a lot to me."
no subject
He just enjoyed the hug, seemingly melting into it a little bit. His face nestled into her hair, and his arms meeting behind her back. He was happy to feel her embrace him in return, and he hoped that this was going to help her feel more secure in the fact that he was here. And more than that, here for her.

And speaking of her hair...
"Sonny, do you think you prefer long hair or short hair? On a girl, I mean." If only because of how she was styling it after the host club gathering.
no subject
He tried to imagine her with short hair and it was kind of hard to do!

Withdrawing from him, she gave him a gentle pat, as if to say she wasn't going far. And she shifted her hair a bit so he could see how long hers had grown. "I've not cut it once since I've been at the academy. I didn't notice until recently how long it'd gotten. I think I'll be wearing it like this from now on."
Then she gauged his reaction, "Do you think that'd be okay, or do I look silly?" Because she trusted him to tell her the truth - not just that she was pretty.
no subject
"I don't think it looks silly at all, Voile. I think it's very nice hair, so, the more of it there is, the better. Hopefully it doesn't get so long that it's hard to take care of, though! My hair always seems to stay pretty short."
He ruffled his already chronically messy hair.
no subject
"I bet your hair's real easy to manage. When I get out of the shower, it takes me... at least a good twenty or thirty minutes to brush my hair. And it's so long now that if I leave it loose it can get tangled up easily, so I started braiding the back, but that takes time, too."
Laughing a little, she laced her hands together, "Maybe I'll hire someone to do it for me. Whenever I get famous or something."

An idly passing thought because naturally she always got breakfast in the morning, even if it was something small, but that was probably something Sonny was accustomed to. One of the few things that hadn't changed while he was away.
"That... would be nice. I'd hate to be a bother, though. It's fine for me to waste time on my hair. It's mine and all. Boys should be doing boy things. Not playing with hair."

"I think that's more a girl thing to do. Maybe. But then, this is you we're talking about, Sonny. Not feminine, but much more in touch with your emotions. It's part of what's always kept me enamoured with you." A short little nod was given, "I like that about you."
