Once upon a time I was falling in love...

Who: Sonny, Voile
When: May 18 - Early Afternoon
What: She's showing him the contest hall. And treating him to lunch.
Where: FDC
Warnings: Hardly.

"When was the last time we spent a day together like this?"

She'd asked it to herself as her slow steps took her to Sonny's new room. It was a shame that he wouldn't be rooming with Vinnie any longer, but she had a feeling the Venusaur would be quite pleased to have such a delightful welcoming. Nothing like coming home to family, after all. And not too long ago, she wouldn't have known too much about what that was like.

She had an idea of it in the present, however, and the mere thought made her smile.

Voile stopped outside of his door, looking ready for the summer. After a few cycles of lacing her hands together and unlacing them, she finally sucked up all of her courage and knocked.

And hopefully he hadn't forgotten.

To be entirely frank, this to him was an enthralling conversation. He was just passionate about eating. He could list differences between carrots and fried chicken all day. And all the different kinds of shrimp he liked to eat too, probably.

"What else in the world would I need to be happy, anyway?" he replied with a little laugh. "Well. Maybe a nap every so often. But if you don't count those, the other two things are just great."

"In fairy tales? You know when they end 'And they lived happily ever after'? That would pretty much be it exactly." Sonny agreed enthusiastically. And he did mean it, too.

"I like happy endings." Sonny replied, surprising absolutely no-one. "Though, I think probably? You could write a book. Because you read a lot of books so, most likely, you know a lot about what makes a good book, I think."

It made sense - If writing was the action then reading was something like practice, right?

"I'd read it. And buy some copies to donate to the Library so everyone else could read it too."

Sonny pondered this while eating some of his food.

"...I think, if I ever did write a book? I'd like to write about something else more than food. Food would be good, like maybe a recipe book or something? Buuuuut, that would mostly just be talking about other people's recipes. I haven't made up any of my own, even though sometimes I change the recipe a little bit to suit my tastes."

He shook his head. "I'd like to write a kids book. Like a story."

"Kids seem to like me. Especially when I'm a Pokémon. It's funny, in Goldenrod? I would stay with the daycare couple some times and their grandkids would come over. They were happy to see me when I was there. They'd run around and around me and climb on my tummy and jump all over it. It was so funny to watch them. So much energy." he recalled with a smirk. "Sometimes I'd pretend to chase them around a little bit too. Just kind of wander around after them on all fours. They would laugh and try to get away, and I would always let them. I like the Day care couple. They're nice."

They always fed him well and let him watch TV through the window.

"Oh! That's so nice!" Sonny replied. "I'm glad you guys found the little boy's family. I think probably they were really happy."

Understatement of the year.

"The kids I used to spend time with always knew where their Grandparents were so that was good. They would share candy and bits of bread and stuff with me too. They were good kids."

"I don't know. Probably you're right - I haven't ever met a bad kid. Sometimes they do bad things? But usually they don't mean anything by it or just don't know."

He'd seen some kids fighting amongst themselves before, or throwing tantrums in the grocery store when they weren't allowed to grab all the candy. But he didn't see that as bad, just unruly.

"Really?" he asked. "That's not.... bad, or anything though. Right?"

He liked some childish things. But he was responsible, too! Or at least, he tried to be.

"Hmm. OK!" he replied, satisfied with that answer. "I can help you remember."

Because if she'd forgotten how, it would probably do her some good to rediscover it. He had a few guilty pleasures he knew an adult man ought to take less joy in than he did. He could share them with her. He trusted her enough that he didn't mind her seeing that side of him.

"Ohhhhh. I see." he replied with a nod. He got what she meant, of course - And he didn't mind at all. So long as she didn't mind him enjoying the things he enjoyed, that was all he needed.

"I'll do my best!"

Sonny was well and truly finished with all his food and whatever bread had been left in the basket by now. His plate was so clean, you could almost assume it had been run through the dishwasher already.

"I'd like that!" he said - as if she expected anything else from him, though. "Any time you want."
