Once upon a time I was falling in love...
Who: Sonny, Voile
When: May 18 - Early Afternoon
What: She's showing him the contest hall. And treating him to lunch.
Where: FDC
Warnings: Hardly.
"When was the last time we spent a day together like this?"
She'd asked it to herself as her slow steps took her to Sonny's new room. It was a shame that he wouldn't be rooming with Vinnie any longer, but she had a feeling the Venusaur would be quite pleased to have such a delightful welcoming. Nothing like coming home to family, after all. And not too long ago, she wouldn't have known too much about what that was like.
She had an idea of it in the present, however, and the mere thought made her smile.
Voile stopped outside of his door, looking ready for the summer. After a few cycles of lacing her hands together and unlacing them, she finally sucked up all of her courage and knocked.
And hopefully he hadn't forgotten.

He paused at the mention of lessons.
"Probably there's either somewhere in town you could learn to play or there might be a website about it. There's websites about almost anything you could think of that you want to learn."
no subject
When she quieted, her smile was soft and pleasant. "That's a good point. There are a lot of resources here. I'm sure if you're really so interested in it that you'll find a way to make it work. If you do somehow manage to, Sonny, you'd best know that I'd like to hear you play."
no subject
Because heaven forbid he should play badly for her and embarrass himself. He wondered idly if there were any pretty love songs he could learn to serenade her with. Ukulele love ballads? Was that a thing? He would Guurgle it later.
no subject
Voile found herself pausing with those words, unsure of what to say, really. They were powerful words and held a lot of meaning, even beyond what he was saying regarding ukulele lessons. Tipping her head, she stayed quiet a few moments longer and finally nodded.
"Yeah," the green-haired girl replied. "I can wait. Take your time, Sonny. I can't imagine why I'd be in any kind of a hurry."
no subject
"You won't be disappointed. I promise. I'll play you something really nice. It will be worth it."
no subject
"Worried about disappointing me?" she asked with some slight surprise. "I don't really think you could disappoint me if you tried. I look forward to it all the same."

She offered him a light shrug in her attempt to reassure him. "It's not the skill that impresses me. It's the thought that you'd want to play something for me. I think... it's a very romantic idea."
no subject
He grinned a little sheepishly. Maybe a little of her perfectionist streak was rubbing off on him?
no subject
To sing something for her, too? Sonny... seemed to want to do a world of things for her. She wanted to ask him why, what made him think it was necessary. Because it wasn't, and he probably knew that. She assumed he did these things because he wanted to. Perhaps because he worried she felt she wasn't appreciated enough. There were plenty of educated guesses on her part, but the only way she'd know the truth was to ask him.
That wasn't going to happen. When she decided she'd eyed him blankly for long enough, she nodded slowly. "It's... not as if you need to impress me..."
no subject
"I know that. If I felt like I had to impress you, I probably wouldn't be quite as happy to do nice things for you." Because feeling something was just expected as opposed to appreciated was unfulfilling at best and demoralizing at worst.

When one became used to disappointment and a lack of delight, it became something of second nature. Voile would have admitted she was at that point.
"I find your generosity puzzling," she admitted. "Flattering and puzzling. I'd like to do something to earn these kindnesses of yours."
no subject
He thought on it a moment. "...I think you commented before on it. You said I was altruistic? That hasn't changed in the last week. Or year. It probably will never change."
no subject
Her heart practically lodged itself into her throat when she heard him and she turned his words over in her head. She knew it, of course. But it was a lot harder to handle when he actually said it to her. Not having it in the air meant she could ignore it. And she wouldn't feel caught between him and Marie like she did.
And she knew she would, too. It was... difficult. Difficult not to be honest with her own feelings. How much dishonour was it to be truthful? By doing so, was it insulting Marie? But not saying anything at all...
"You are... always very altruistic," she agreed. "I could - and should - learn from your example." And there was no refuting of his feelings for her. She had no desire to, for he still held much of her heart that he'd taken with him when he'd left.

If anything, Sonny only had a few people he was friends with and could even really do things for.

Lifting her shoulders, Voile offered a mostly casual shrug as she continued, "But I do try." To be kind, was what she meant.

By this time, some of the things they had ordered arrived and Sonny requested two extra plates for appetizers, being they had decided to share and all.
"I don't think anyone would think otherwise."
no subject
"No, you're probably right," Voile admitted with a small nod. "I should listen to you more often than I listen to myself, I think."
no subject
"Hopefully my advice is good, in that case!" he said with a cheeky grin. "I think it is but maaaaybe I'm biased?"
no subject
"Biased, yes. I've come to expect that of you. I doubt anyone could be as biased regarding me as you. You've quite the penchant for that, I think."
no subject
"I don't mind being an expert on that." he replied before tucking in to the food. Hmm! It was good! He was glad they came here.
no subject
And she was kidding. She really was.
no subject
"A pet? Awww. I was thinking more like a real expert. Liiike... a Professor or something. A Professor of Voile. Voileology? Huh. Sounds kind of neat."
It sort of rolled off the tongue.
no subject
"Voileology. If you start bragging about that, you're going to make a lot of people incredibly envious. Or they're going to seriously get the wrong idea."
no subject
He just smiled, chuckling a little himself, though, a little more sheepishly than her. "You're right. Sorry. It's only been a week for me, so, it might be hard for me to remember sometimes that there's a right idea and a wrong idea."
Still. Voileology. He was going to remember that.
