It was a dark and stormy night--

Well, no. It wasn't. In fact, it was rather cool and clear, a perfect October evening for the perfect October celebration. Stars winked above, the choice accompaniment to the orange moon looming overhead. Tonight. Tonight would be a party.



But just as the sun begins to set, the sound of cackling can be heard ringing through campus, the harbinger of what could only be described as Halloween Shenanigans.

Woe betide those that fell into her path.

B-but Shadow! X needed that bottle! It was pertinent towards his quest to find Princess Zero and bring order to the Kingdom of Neo Arcadia!


So he was right? Okay, good, things were finally starting to get somewhere, and X and his new animal friend were really starting to communicate with each other. If he was a less humble child, X would have puffed out his chest and beamed with pride...

As it stood, he stuck with simply beaming. Be careful that you don't get blinded by the sheer radiance of his smile, Shadow. Legends have said that it had the power to kill fledgling vampires and Zombies.

"I found lots of things like that in the room I woke up in...I'll take you there, okay?"

Room he woke up in = his dorm, of course.

Aha, excellent. Thankfully, the might of his bright smile did not vanquish him, no matter how dark he seemed. Instead, Shadow clung relentlessly to his leg, ready to hitch a ride on him until they get to... wherever it is X was going to take him.

With a slightly more optimistic squeak, he nodded against his inorganic being.

Let's get the show on the road.

Okay, so it was time for them to go...

Except one thing.

Poor baby was clinging to his leg still. Considering the journey they were going to have to trek, that wasn't the safest place for him to be, even if the material of his pajamas was pretty soft.

"Though, uh...would it be okay if I carried you? It's a bit dangerous to cling onto my leg like that."

Would... X even be capable of doing that? He parted ways from his body and tilted his head, silently questioning his child-like strength. Shadow didn't doubt that he had some power at his normal age, but would he maintain that same strength now?

Either way, he wasn't grabbing onto him anymore, nor would he struggle if he got carried, so it was all up to him now.

The little thing was off his leg; X took that as a good, positive sign. Did that mean he trusted him?

Well, he wasn't going to break that trust.

"Uhm, don't worry. I'm not going to drop you."

His hands were gentle but unsure as he pulled the hedgehog into his hands. How was he supposed to hold him? Holding him straight was probably not the best idea (X knew he himself would have been uncomfortable if someone carried him like that)...

With a moment's hesitation, he settled with cradling him, making sure to keep his hold steady.

"Just hold on tight, okay?"

He broke out into a light jog.

Shadow was perfectly fine with his handling. In fact, he felt an odd sense of comfort wash over him as he was cradled softly to his chest, as if he had the safety of a hedgehog mother protecting him from harm.

He had to wonder... what if Maria could have held him like this? Would it have felt the same way?

He wasn't about to doubt that. If not, she would have handled him even better than this. She definitely had a tender touch.

He held onto him, bobbing up and down only slightly as X traveled. The movements only served to sober him up, leaving him feeling strangely relaxed. Yaaawwn.
