Sometimes... Sometimes people just needed things. Basic necessities, food, clothes, video games... Of course, after the big Angry Birds attack a few days ago, it was likely people needed to replace broken things too. (How did that even happen anyway...)

Whatever the reason, the mall was the place to be.

"What about this one?" Sonny asked, holding one up for her to see.

"That's a cute one," she said, taking it from him. She had no idea what the print on the front meant, but it looked comfy! She pulled it on over her head, popping her ponytail out the back when she got it over her head. "How's it look?"

"It looks really, really nice!" Sonny said, admiring it. "It matches a lot of the clothes you like to wear, with the colors? I think it suits you really well!"

Shantae nodded in agreement. "Yep, I think this one is a keeper!" she said, pulling it off again. "Now to find a good blue one too, and I think I'm set!"

"Yay!"

Yeah. He says Yay out loud sometimes. It's a thing. He was just happy she liked the sweater he found for her.

"Hey, is this one OK? Or is it too plain?"

[magicdancer]

"Hey, that's a really cute one!" she said, taking it from him. She pulled it on over her head. This one was tighter on her than the other one, showing off more of her curves. "Mmm. It's really soft! How's it look on me?" she asked, hand on her hip.

"Really pretty!" He replied earnestly and enthusiastically.

Pretty much everything looked really pretty on her so far as he cared. But at least this way he was answering a direct question and not just giving a general comment that might give away the state of his heart.

"Then we have a winner!" Shantae declared triumphantly. "Thanks a lot for your help," she added, taking off the sweater and gathering up her purchases to take to the cashier.

[punchtheflute]

"Cool! Oh, I should change back into my regular clothes so I can get these rung up." he said, still wearing the shirts and pants they'd picked together. "Give me a few minutes and I'll meet you outside the store? Then we can go get lunch!"

"Great! I'm hungry now too," she said, going to cash out and wait for him outside, as he said.

Sonny was as quick as he could be, changing out of and paying for his new clothes. He was almost tempted to change back into them once they were bought and paid for - after all, she had said they were Very Cute.

But he chose expediency over fashion and rejoined her outside the clothing store, carrying his own bags and stooping to pick up hers as well.

"Alright! Did you want to go to the food court? Or one of the sit down places in the mall?"

"I don't need anything too fancy," she replied, shrugging as they walked. "The food court sounds great to me!"

"Woohoo! Tacos and burgers and food court sushi it is!" Sonny replied, obviously excited by this prospect. Look, a sit down restaurant would have been kind of cute and romantic and whatever. But it would have also been expensive and lacking in quantity compared to what the food court could supply.

"Hey, if you want, I could pick up the tab for lunch today?"

Shantae shook her head as they walked. "No way, you're my friend, and you went to the trouble of watching my try on clothes! Least I could do is treat you to lunch," she suggested. "What do you want to eat?"

"I-it really wasn't any trouble!" Sonny replied. She made it sound like it was difficult or something, but he'd really enjoyed it! "If you insist, though? Burgers. Or a burger. I eat a lot, so, I wouldn't want you to buy me a full lunch! That would be too much!"

Oh, Sonny. Patience had to be rewarded. Besides, she was used to Bolo making her treat him if she made him watch her try on clothes.

"Okay, a jumbo burger for the big guy!" she said with a smile.

"Yeah! Oh, extra pickles, if that's OK? And hold the onions!"

......because. You never knew when his face might be upwind of hers. He didn't want to treat her to onion breath. Just in case.

And so it came to pass that burgers were ordered. A big meaty burger for Sonny, a moderate sized burger for Shantae. And yea, it was good and tasty.

"Mmm. Not bad at all!"

Sonny's was gone really, really quickly. He was staaaaaarving!

"That was so good! Thanks so much!" he said, having finished his fries and soda just about as quickly as the burger.

"Wow, you really WERE hungry," Shantae said, watching him down his meal like it was nothing, letting out a small laugh. "No problem. This was fun today!"

"I had a really great time! I hope we can do stuff like this again!" he replied with a grin.

Maybe we could go to dinner some day?

Hey, maybe I could cook for you and we could watch TV or something?

Netflix and chill?

All things that he would love to say, but that Meowth had his tongue again.

"It was!" she agreed with a grin. "We should do this again some time soon!"

And it was then that Sonny missed his chance, as Shantae got up from the table. "It's been a blast, but I've gotta get going. I've got some assignments I'm procrastinating on that I can't put off any more. I'll see you later!"

"OK! Bye! Talk to you soon!" he replied, waving cheerfully as she started away.

....then he went to the nearest food court ice cream shop and just about ate them out of business while resisting the urge to cry quietly to himself.
