Sometimes... Sometimes people just needed things. Basic necessities, food, clothes, video games... Of course, after the big Angry Birds attack a few days ago, it was likely people needed to replace broken things too. (How did that even happen anyway...)

Whatever the reason, the mall was the place to be.

"No big deal, Pal." Knuckles replied, watching the angel remove the feather from his fries with a shrug. "I trust you. You probably bathe pretty regularly."

It wasn't like he was going to catch angel rabies, he was sure.

"You want somethin' to eat?" he asked, pushing a still-wrapped burger in Pit's direction. "I got a bunch of these guys. They're pretty great."

Being that Pit was both hungry and slightly poor, it was incredibly difficult not to give in to Knuckle's tempting offer. He tried to resist drooling as he replied, "I'm so hungry, I can't say no to a burger! Thanks!" With that, he plopped down to take a seat across from Knuckles and got straight to unwrapping it.

A feather drifted into his process. He blew it away. It skirted harmlessly to the floor.

"So what brings you to the mall?"

"Clothes." Knuckles replied, glad that Pit had accepted his offer. "I figure I should at least try to fit into civilization down here. I'm not a real big fan of them, but it'd gonna be cold soon, so..."

He shrugged and took another bite.

"What about you?" he asked.

"Oh, same here!" replied Pit, spirited by their common goal. "I could use a few scarves and things. It sure is that time of year." He offered a sudden and sheepish grin as he lifted the burger out of its paper shell. "And maybe putz around the arcade a little."

He sunk his teeth into that burger. Hunger waits for nothing but food.

"Oh, yeah. Sure. Putzing around the arcade."

Knuckles took a sheepish bite of his own burger.

"....uh, what's an arcade?"

"Wow, you don't know what an arcade is?" asked Pit, genuinely surprised. "It's a place you can play games at. Video games, pinball machines, crane games... Stuff like that! Sometimes bowling, too."

He was pretty sure the other Knuckles knew what these were. Didn't he? He spent so much time here before that it would have been hard to avoid. Pit realized he was gonna be in for a lot of surprises.

"I know Pinball. And crane games." Knuckles replied. "When you jump on a spring and get bounced around to advance through a place, or when you have to use the Combi Catcher to pick up a friend to go adventuring with you."

He looked around.

"Didn't think the Mall was big enough for stuff like that..."

His world was an odd place, Pit.
