[Open Log] Ch-Ch-Cherry Blossoms

What: Cherry Blossom Festival
When: April 10th - 18th
Where: All over town & campus. Wherever you find a cherry tree. Probably even up there on that mystery island for whatever reason, if you're so inclined.
Rating: Flower power.

Pink is everywhere. No matter where you look, you're sure to see the signs of soft pink and white blossoms. There's a fresh spark of life filling the air and just beckoning for everyone to come outside and enjoy the sweet scents of spring. Well, except for you, people with springtime allergies. They just want to make you miserable. But perhaps for everyone else, it was a wonderful amazing time to be had.

There are wonderful spots for picnicking! Frolic inducing atmosphere and the space to do it! Every so often you will see vendors selling treats for the event! Cosplayers taking advantage of their natural environments for photo ops! Hot date spots! Blossoms! Sparkles! Everywhere! Even when it rains.

This log is completely open! You can do whatever you'd like with whomever you'd like whenever you'd like. Just start up a thread and go!

"I'm familiar with that movie," Eggman told him. "And time travel isn't science fiction. I've done it before. Many times in fact."

"You're shittin' me." Joel replied, suddenly very interested. Imagine if he could find that same technology. If he could take it home...

"The first time, I tried to take control of the Little Planet's Time Stones, magic relics that allow travel to the past and future. I conquered the Little Planet in the past to alter its history, but of course that blue rat undid all my hard work!" he started to grumble.

"The second time, I... acquired a device called the Time Eater, which I used to try and erase all of my mistakes from history. And, of course, the BLUE PEST RUINED EVERYTHING AGAIN!!!" he shouted angrily this time.

"He seems pretty good at that." Joel replied. Again, he actually kind of liked Sonic. He was an OK student and had enough of an attitude that Joel thought he'd go far in life despite being a four foot tall porcupine.

"Tech like that would do my world a whole heck'uva lot of good."

"Who WOULDN'T have need for a machine that could rewrite history?!" Eggman asked rhetorically. "But there's always going to be some goody-goody who prefers history go just the way it has, who's going to stop you!"

"Trust me. If they saw my world, the goody-goodys would be all over changing it."

Actually, the more he thought about it though, the less likely he'd be to do anything even if he had the tech. Simply put, if the world never turned to shit, Ellie would never have been born. Her parents met and conceived her... what? Five years into everything? Chances of them doing the exact same thing if the world were still alright were slim to none.

So. Unless he could somehow protect her from the effects of re-writing time, the world would just have to Deal.

"I don't think so," Eggman pointed out. "No matter how bad the world is, there's always someone out there who stands to gain from the misery of others. Even if your world is an awful, inhospitable place, someone out there is turning a handsome profit at the expense of others. I assure you that."

"Oh, there's plenty of 'em. But I wouldn't call them Good." Joel replied. "The military is enjoying a position of power, controllin' life in the cities. There are camps of hunters who're doing well for themselves. They, uh... they hunt people."

Then there were guys like David. Who was no longer doing that well. But he'd been OK for a while until Ellie split his face like a piñata with that machete.

"I think some of the heroes around here would be happy to turn back the clock twenty years. Stop the infection before it began."

....that would mean Sarah would live, too. She'd be in her mid thirties by now. Damn. Wasn't that a thought? (The answer is, yes. It is a thought. The reaction to that is simple: Push it down and pretend it didn't occur to him.)

Eggman blinked. "People who profit or gain from disaster are RARELY good," he said as if it were the most obvious statement to make in the world. "But that's exactly what I'm talking about. People with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, whatever it may be."

"Yeah..." said the man who had basically destroyed Humanity's hope of curing cordyceps just so he could keep one girl alive. That was about as much profiting from disaster as anything the military had done.

"Anyway. Guessin' the tech to do it don't exist here." Joel repliued. "Or you would'a used it to go back in time and save your airship from bein' totaled."

"It DID. Until the BLASTED HEDGEHOG got to it again!!" Eggman growled again, fists tightening and slamming down on the handlebars of the bike. "Every time I'm even the SLIGHTEST BIT close to my goals, he always makes a mess of it!!!"

"...so why ain't you killed him yet?" asked Joel. "Not that I'm advocating it or nothin' - I don't want any harm coming to the kids." He'd just about killed Blood Falcon for this reason. "But you don't seem to have all the same scruples I got when it comes to youngsters, at least."

"OH. GEE. I WONDER WHY I NEVER THOUGHT OF DOING THAT BEFORE?!" Eggman shouted angrily, getting red in the face.

In case Joel couldn't tell, that was sarcasm.

"Thinkin' of doing it and doing it are two vastly different things, Ivo." Joel replied.

"AND WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I HAVEN'T TRIED?!"

"Th' fact that he's still alive and you had an airship filled with heavy artillery, time travel, an army..." Joel replied, halting his pedaling for the moment. "I've never had any of that and any time I needed someone gone I--"

Wooooah, hold on. Hold up. Too much information. Not the kind of thing we share willy nilly, Joel.

"...hn. Just... saying, seems to me if you really wanted him dead, you could do it. Don't do it. I like the kid. But if you wanted to so bad, why ain't you?"

"You don't know him as well as I do," Eggman growled. "He's tenacious, powerful, and above all he never gives up. I HATE that. He escapes every death trap and weapon I throw at him, just to throw some terrible insult or pun my way! I HATE HIM SO MUCH!" he declared, punching the console of the bike.

"Tenacious, powerful, never gives up... sounds like you admire the kid as much as you hate him." Joel suggested reasonably.

"WHAT IS THERE TO POSSIBLY ADMIRE ABOUT AN ANNOYING BLUE RAT AND HIS ARMY OF GOODY GOODY FRIENDS WHO ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE EACH OTHER'S BACK AND FOIL MY EVERY SCHEME FOR WORLD DOMINATION?!"

He didn't have a problem.

"I dunno. You tell me." Joel replied. Even though the guy kind of already WAS.

"I DO NOT ADMIRE HIM!!!" he shouted again.

"Then why the fuck are you shouting about it?" Joel asked. "If that was true, you'd be able to let it go. 'Yeah, whatever, you don't know what you're talkin' about, Joel.' But the way you're goin' on..."

The Texan shrugged.

"Y'ever hear the saying 'The lady doth protest too much, methinks'? That's kind've the vibe I'm getting from you here. And there ain't nothing wrong with that. Hell, if a kid can go up against a guy with an airship, an army of robots, canons, lasers, whatever.... even if you hate the guy, you have to admit, he's done OK for himself."

"I AM NOT PROTESTING TOO MUCH!! I'M PROTESTING JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT!!"

"Which sure seems like way, way too much from where I'm peddlin'."

Eggman stopped his pedaling. He climbed right off the bike.

"THIS WORKOUT SESSION IS OVER," he angrily declared. "I DO NOT HAVE TO SIT HERE AND LISTEN TO YOU TELL ME HOW MUCH I SECRETLY ADORE MY ARCH NEMESIS. GOOD DAY, SIR!!"
