merry merry christmas, and I want you to know

Who: YOU
What: KISSLETOES
When: December 14th - January 1st
Where: Everywhere
Warnings: Sloppy makeouts.

SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING...

title or description

The entire school has become covered in mistletoe overnight. It grows out of the walls! The ceilings! Everywhere you least expect it? HOW CAN THIS BE??

It's probably best not to think about it. Attempts to uproot the plants or burn them away only makes the plants grow back faster. For the time being, it seems the school must live with it.

[OOC INSTRUCTIONS:
+ Post dudes, get kisses!
+ Some (NOT ALL) plants are cursed. If you manage to step under a cursed plant, you will exchange a memory when or if you exchange a kiss. The memories will be first-person and very vivid, and characters will feel like they are experiencing the memory in real time, though in reality the transfer is instantaneous. Memories can be as short, long, happy, sad, or traumatic as you like.
+ If you'd like to participate, we highly suggest making a list of a few memories (with accompanying links/descriptions) that are up for grabs, and linking or posting the list in your top-level comment. Memory exchange is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. When in doubt, OOC communication!
+ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAG YOUR CHARACTERS
+ That's it, we love you.

Maybe Connor made it too difficult for her, and in more times than this. Maybe he shouldn't always look for answers when the situation got rough. He just wanted to know how she felt, if she was angry or happy; anything really. Like if she didn't, Connor wouldn't know if he was doing what was right to her.

Often, Connor didn't feel that insecure about their courtship.

But, again, these things were designed to not be easy and have all the answers for the open on the table.

Because Connor didn't know how to say what he wanted, in that broad sense. In a way, he felt like he wanted all of what she proposed. He couldn't be that greedy, because these things were meant to take time.

An initiative was needed though, it was crucial to have that. He wanted to keep it all after all.

"I-" Connor somewhat bashfully started. "I need to know if what I am has not truly hurt you. I know our ways of life are different, as we are different people. But I feel like I do not want to change how you see me. No matter what title I have at my disposal, I am still that man you met and courted for this past year...If what you say is true, then I can only hope we can move forward, no matter what life either of us has led."

"Hurt me...?" she asked him, slight confusion evident until she really thought about all of his words together and the bigger picture he was attempting to show her.

Her feelings weren't hurt any longer. She was about as rightfully suspicious as she should have been around anyone who wasn't upfront with her. Which meant slightly wary, but not enough to the point where it really affected her too much. And a lot of that was because she lived a lot of her life around Connor not always being upfront with him. Mostly because she felt like there was no possible way for him to understand her position or what she was dealing with, which she'd said as much to Gordon. But she supposed the reason why made very little difference in the end.

Feelings wise, Eirika was mostly fine. Accepting, at any rate. Past that, where her literal position was concerned, she knew well enough that when she saw Ephraim again, as that was bound to happen, she would need to explain the whole situation nice and slow for him. And then await the inevitable backlash that would follow. Nothing about her situation with Connor made Eirika the Queen placed at ease.

"I think—no, I know that many things of recent will undoubtedly complicate life at court for me," Eirika began with a small little nod. "But I understand that I have been a bit entitled and unfair to you, for I have not, in my time, thought about how my position has the potential to place stress on you. I cannot have you be anyone else other than who you are, and in the same right, I cannot be anyone else other than who I am. I want to believe that the sometimes stubborn and uncompromising traits we share will allow us to bypass this."

But, she left to herself. I am not at all certain. I was never much into gambling, the way Joshua was. This could go very poorly for me and if that is so, I should be reasonably prepared for just such a possibility. As I should any other possibilities, as well.

If Eirika could be more frank.

It wasn't like Connor could disagree, because then he would be lying. There was some difficulty in Eirika and her upholding her position. But Connor didn't want to change that, because he couldn't. Eirika admitting the things she said did bother him, but there was nothing he could change about that realistically. Instead, just focus on what he could change, how he felt about this situation and where he stood in it.

He just had to accept it all, right? If they didn't mean anything to each other, this would've ended far long ago. But the longer they spent time with one another, the more it became clear.

He couldn't break it off, he couldn't end it. He didn't want it to.

Once again, it was bound to cause problems but the consequences were what he actually decided to ignore. Achilles would've smacked him verbally or physically by now. Perhaps his mother too.

"As I have said, I cannot change that. I cannot change you," Connor finally spoke. "All I can change is this; how I feel. What all of...this meant."

Because they did just create a future, that did just happen. Whatever happened, happened at this point. Eirika made it pretty clear that she wasn't willing to throw in the towel, at least not easily.

Connor felt sure he wasn't either.

"We all knew there were...trials we were to face as time passed. Perhaps I did not expect these, but I am," Connor paused, to just look at her more determined. He would not, could not back down. Not after all of it. At least he had to make that statement. "-Nothing about how I felt has changed. None of it."

He silenced her rather easily. More easily than she ever wanted Connor to have the ability to silence her. And considering her position, she never wanted him to have an ability quite like that. She was the queen by practise. She was the noble. She was the one with the silver tongue and the regal bearing. When it was just the two of them, Eirika assumed it was fine for him to catch her in such a vulnerable state, but to do so in front of her people would have implied such... realistic weight that trying to hide their relationship would have been theoretically difficult back home.

I envy your ability to be so confident, she thought as she eyed him with a deep respect, something that she didn't outwardly show too terribly often. I wish that I could say things the same way that you do. If I am confident in anything, it is that I was right all along and never should have let us grow into who and what we are now. For though I adore you and these days together, I still know they cannot last, regardless of what we have done.

After several moments, Eirika shook her head, perhaps to dispel the thoughts that circulated, for she could not say nothing. Her hands folded together and she held onto whatever courage it was that she had left. She couldn't have the same conversation with him again and again and again. There would be no point to it and he knew all of her concerns already. What reason was there in repeating herself? None, that she could see.

"I... think you are allowed to be displeased by things said or done, regardless of when such things occurred. And you are allowed to be honest about the things that trouble you or give you cause for concern. And I do also think that if you should ever feel that this pathway is not one you wish to take, that I would never bind you to it. But if you are... content to stay at my side, then I can only consider myself blessed."

"I did get upset," admitted Connor. "I was angry. I cannot deny that and I shall not even try."

He sighed a little before moving on, placing his hands gentle on her shoulders now.

"I know you were angry with me. Perhaps I did not know how to approach the kind of anger I had. But...it was something I knew I had to make due and let it pass. Even if it took time."

Perhaps, there was work to be done. Maybe it just took this few minute conversation to actually make him comes to terms with that. Nothing was ever easy, etc.

"I must face what I had done, and I must right it, for us both."

He was not repeating himself either, and he KNEW what she was thinking. Or rather, he could guess. Royal airs and all.

He took her by the shoulders and it seemed like something he'd done several times in the past. Almost always whenever he wanted to grab and keep her attention. And it usually worked out very well. This time was no different from the others. It took only moments for his hands to make contact and she found her gaze pointedly upon his face.

"Was angry, yes," Eirika admitted. "Not now. Not... at this moment. Uncertain, of course. I am nothing if not infinitely uncertain, it seems." She frowned briefly, but lifted her hands to settle over his. Not to remove them, just to establish personal contact with him. For him to initiate it was no small ordeal and she well understood that by this point. There was no sense to make him feel he wasn't welcome.

"I do not think that what happened is something that requires 'righting,'" she confessed gently. "Things are what they are. I learned something new about you. Something that defines very much who and what you are. And we traded information."

And there is still information to be traded, even if only one-sided, Eirika thought, still mulling over her discomforts where Lyon was concerned. For if she managed to save him and succeeded... would they marry? She had no way of knowing. But political alliance was always going to precede love, even though she knew very well Lyon loved her.

She just didn't know how to talk about anything like that. "We... we should always be honest with one another, right? About what we think and feel? How can we learn anything further about ourselves unless we're honest..." Eirika shook her head with some thought, "There is nothing that needs to be righted. I hold no animosity toward you and I hope in time you will not hold any toward me in return. Yet I am willing to wait to reach that very point."

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2015-02-04 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
He wouldn't have known about Lyon unless if Eirika decided to share it. Would it be pleasant of a conversation if she did? Probably not, but there was that honesty thing again. The blow would be softened considering what was happening now but...again, baby steps.

"I am working through it," he said, not wanting to discourage her or anything. After all, she was speaking so gently, kindly. Accepting; and Connor couldn't ask for more, could he? He shouldn't. Also, he knew this meant the beginning for them. This wasn't going away five minutes from now, maybe not for a few days.

But if they meant anything, he would have to try. Compromising, perhaps. He was upset perhaps a few minutes ago, but he couldn't be visibly upset with her now. He couldn't bring himself to say that, he looked at her with somewhat sad eyes.

"Any animosity would not last too long, I hope you do know that."

He loved her a bit too much to be angry forever.
heartofarapier: ([concern] akin to attentive)

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2015-02-06 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
If he had been angry, she would have accepted it. Eirika never expected an immediate fix on anything. War was good at teaching even the most naive princess patience. Nothing was ever resolved quickly and while she couldn't exactly treat every situation between her and Connor diplomatically, she could try. She was good with words, after all, and if she watched how she worded things, she could find ways that she could convey the truth of the matter without further upsetting him or disproving any of his points.

After all, Connor usually had some merit in his words, even if she didn't always enjoy admitting to it.

She nodded to him, "Of course I know that." Except there really was no of course about it. She hoped and that was all she really could do, but he probably knew that without her saying it. "I think you should take all of the time that you need." Because that really did seem like the most logical way to handle the situation. She couldn't press him, and if she did it wouldn't make her a very good person in any form of the word.
mohawk_tomahawk: icon by me (mrrf)

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2015-02-06 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And just like that, she accepted it all again. At times, it was hard to see if that was the diplomat side or the true emotional side of her when she was like this. On one hand, it shown a lot of strength; but at the same time, Connor knew it wasn't easy being her and all of her habits came from...well, habit. It was probably because she had to, and maybe perhaps it also protected her. He couldn't always know her workings at every given time, he just knew he wanted to respect it.

So, in the end, it made him ache just a little bit about something else.

"...I was harsh with you," Connor said softly, as he tried to leave no room for Eirika to argue with that. He felt harsh earlier, even if she told him he wasn't wrong in his feelings, he could feel he did react somewhat badly. Especially since he knew he made things very hard for her with the-yeah.

"I had not asked you how you were even...feeling, are you feeling well?"

"...I was harsh with you."

Sometimes, and it was mostly in the past, Connor had a way of sounding either brotherly or fatherly to her. It wasn't oft, and it certainly never stuck around for long, but it happened all the very same. And it was usually only those times that Eirika questioned the extent of her love and adoration for him. Or not necessarily the 'extent' so much as the definition of her love. For she was no fool and knew well enough there were different kinds of inclination.

Romantic, indeed. Familial, to a degree. What more beyond that...? She had no way of knowing the answer to that, and Connor's words only made her wonder all the more.

She shook her head modestly, willing not to offer up an argument for there was no need for her to. Whether she thought he did or didn't really made no difference at the end of things. Connor was bull-headed at times and as much as she held her own stubborn demeanour, Eirika knew well enough when she wasn't going to win against him. Besides, they had quarreled so much already. She had no desire to really dive back into a silly little series of battles between them.

Her head tipped and as she wove her hands together with some thought, Eirika nodded. "I am doing all right. A little particular in what I wish to eat. More so than usual, anyway. Some weeks ago, I would have been willing to eat plenty of pasta. Today, nothing like that sounds good." Which made her chuckle, "From what I understand, that seems to be normal as per the circumstance."

Or a simply 'human' trait, which she didn't bother to say, because she knew what he was really asking.

Which was one of the reasons why Connor asked about her general health afterwords. Connor went into his feelings and she went into hers, and then they had to move on. Going back and forth solved nothing at any given time. It never worked when they did those sorts of things. Talk it out, or argue, accept, agree, and move on.

Connor didn't want to argue anymore, and merely just wished for the day to get better between them. Or rather, the future all together.

He just wanted to spend time with her.

A year ago, just spending a day doing nothing but relaxing would've been foolish. Nowadays, a day or an afternoon never hurt. As long as it could go to the way things should be between them, nothing else seemed to matter.

"I could eat," Connor said. "If you are not busy, perhaps we should try to see what you have in mind."

She tipped her head at his invitation and after a moment or two, she finally offered up a nod. "If you'd like to." She couldn't say how easy it would be for her to eat. What with how particular she was being. It'd do no good to make him work more than whatever was necessary.

"You are right, however," Eirika continued with some thought, "in that I am not busy. I didn't have any other plans. If you would like to have lunch with me, I would not mind."

How could she? He was making an effort. She could ask for nothing more.
mohawk_tomahawk: (someday you will see me like this)

And she accepted, again. That made Connor pleased, and in turn, now he had to do what he could to make her happy. Finally, he offered her a smile; a genuine smile. It was a smile that was large enough for Connor that his eyes smiled as well, today has been improved.

"I could go change and meet with you shortly, or I could go as I am and none of it could matter," he added.

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2015-02-16 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Eirika didn't reply at first and she shook her head slowly, as if it didn't matter. Because it didn't. She didn't care what he was wearing, or what he wasn't. All that really mattered was that he was comfortable. At least to her.

"It's really up to you," she answered somewhat easily. "You should go however you're comfortable. If you want to change, I'll wait outside your quarters for you and we can go together, if you'd like. If you think I should change, then we could both change and meet outside your quarters."

"I just dislike these clothes," Connor admitted, looking down on his dark navy blue jumpsuit. He could withstand the cold, but he felt like himself in his robes and he could withstand the cold more.

The smile never left his face though.

It was cute, to think Eirika insisted she could change too. It was like the role reversal for which then Connor then shook his head. Well played, Princess. If it was the intention. Perhaps it was the notion he felt that she liked him better in his robes.

But that was just a thought, too eager to please each other then.

So, he sighed and spoke out, "Then I am fine. As long as we leave and not have to run into far too many plants this afternoon, I am happy."

Very happy, happy enough to reach down to kiss her gently and quickly. Still though, it wasn't so quick to not be affectionate. After all, Connor was affectionate with her and only her.

heartofarapier: ([ephraim] akin to forbidden)

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2015-02-16 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
And she could sympathise. It was a little weird to see in Connor wearing garb that wasn't his robes. But she understood that he had to dress the part for his work and she respected that. Not that she had any intentions of wearing the school uniform. She'd been at the academy long enough that people knew she was a student. At least she assumed they knew. And if they didn't perhaps that was indicative enough that they weren't the most observant.

After all, she was an attentive student and just about always went to her classes. Even when she was feeling unwell.

"I think you make a good point. If you want to change, then you should change," she nodded to him. "I can wait. I certainly don't mind."

There came a kiss that followed, as fleeting as it was, which left Eirika momentarily unsure of how to respond. Saying 'thank you' seemed silly, so she didn't bother to say it, but it was obvious that it affected her. Romantic gestures weren't lost on her at all, regardless of whatever squabbles might have been happening.

"A-as I was saying," she stammered somewhat bashfully, "I... really don't mind waiting. You always look more comfortable in your robes, anyway..."

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2015-02-18 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
He was about to respond, because Eirika didn't get that bashful often. When was the last time she got like that? He could've sworn he had done something like that in past, multiple times. Connor wasn't a teaser really, so making some slight fun didn't really appeal. Although, Eirika has prodded on that side of him. Who knew Connor had it in him to tease, even sometimes?

No, he would've regarded lovingly. Treated her bashfulness with love and care, she was being so adorable.

Again, he nearly did so. Instead, his mind left him. In place was something so unexpected, that he froze for a good few moments as it happened.

Maybe it happened for Eirika as well.

Connor was wounded, and dazed, walking through a ruined home. He practically limped along, breathing heavy. He had to stay hidden, he was in no condition to fight anymore. An exhausting trudge led him to a ruined opening in the wall to a courtyard. The sky was clouded with smoke, and rubble was strewn everywhere. The sound of cannons strung about the town, destruction.

He had to find him. He had to. He had to keep fighting, he couldn't give up. He was on a mission.

"Where are you Charles??" Connor yelled out only to be greeted by a familiar face.

"Gone," Haytham all too calmly said as he was soon attacking Connor. In fact, beating him down. To which Connor responded in turn by attacking back, including stabbing Haytham's arm, completely rendering it useless.

"Give me Lee," Connor threatened. Haytham scoffed, holding back his own pain. "Impossible. He is the promise of a better future. The sheep need a shepherd."

No, and Connor came all this way. Haytham was so sure of Lee, so sure of him. It was wrong, all wrong to Connor. "He has been dismissed and censured. He can do nothing for you now," Connor responded, getting defensive as they both started sheathing their blades, they were ready to fight to the death on this.

Connor didn't want to this, he didn't want to. He really didn't. Haytham didn't lower his guard, however.

"A temporary setback. He will be restored," Haytham said, seemingly to finalize those words.

"We have an opportunity here. To break the cycle, and end this ancient war. I know it," Connor said back, reeling a little bit not still not lowering himself. Haytham didn't bat an eye, "No. You WANT to know it. You WANT it to be true. Part of me once did as well. But it is an impossible dream."

"...We are in blood, you and I. Please..."

"No, son. We are enemies. And one of us must die."

The next thing Eirika would see would be Connor and Haytham bloodied from fighting. Connor was on the ground, with the latter trying to choke the remaining life from him. Connor felt his strength leaving, he couldn't die here. No matter what, he couldn't die.

He had a few seconds, Connor sheathed his hidden blade and did the deed, striking Haytham at the neck. Soon Haytham started bleeding profusely, defeated. Connor had won, but at a huge cost.

Haytham started losing his strength, weakening, but he still had something to say. With the remaining strength he had, he spoke to his son.

"...Don’t think I have any intention of caressing your cheek and saying I was wrong. I will not weep and wonder what might have been...I’m sure you understand," Haytham then knelled on the ground, he only had a few moments left. "Still, I’m proud of you in a way. You have shown great conviction. Strength. Courage. All noble qualities...I should have killed you long ago."

Then he was gone, he fell to the ground, lifeless. Connor loomed over his body, looking him over. The last thing said was, "Ó:nen ki’ wáhi Raké:ni."

Goodbye, Father.

"Ó:nen ki’ wáhi Raké:ni."

Eirika's knowledge on Connor's language was not good. She had learned little phrases here and there, something to impressive the Native, but beyond that, it was difficult to find resources for an unwritten language without going directly to Connor or to his mother. And considering she wanted to surprise Connor, he wasn't an option. And considering she respected Ziio, she was also more than a little intimidated by the woman. And that didn't seem an option either.

Regardless of one string of words that she could only guess context on, Eirika understood everything else loud and clear. Connor had told her months prior that he had ended his father's life. She'd been horrified. To think someone so close to her was capable of something so horrid. It had been one discovery of a few that had set her on edge. Things she was supposed to know and almost didn't want to know.

Seeing it with her own eyes, she found herself so emotionally attached to the situation, as if she was the one living it. Connor's pain was her pain. Facing Master Haytham, a man she'd at least respected, in a way she'd never gotten an opportunity to at the academy. Seeing a side of him she never knew existed. Who was he, really? Why were they against one another? Assassins... Was it a problem with the Assassins? It would have been reason enough for them to oppose each other. Parents could easily be angry at their young for such things.

And it didn't end there...

There was only confusion in Eirika's eyes, stationed between brother and best friend. Her gaze switched between them both, hands tightening with uncertainty. "What... what's going..." Because none of it made any sense. All she could hear was one side and the other, as if both attempted to drown out her own feelings. How could she think with so much going on?

"Your dreams, Lyon. I am about to make them come true for you." It came from Lyon's mouth. It came from his handsome face. It was, in essence, him, but at the same time, it wasn't him at all. "I am about to crush Prince Ephraim and take Princess Eirika for my own. Isn’t this all that you’ve ever prayed for, young fool of a prince?"

Impossible. The words alone left implications that rendered Eirika bitter and soft all at once. When her brother gasped, unable to hide his surprise, her blue eyes turned onto him, imploringly. And she had to wonder if he knew about it all along. But that was equally impossible, wasn't it...?

Lyon continued, or at least the feigned Lyon. The Lyon with the gentle face and the not-so-gentle voice. The Lyon who wasn't Lyon at all. A former shell of the prince Eirika had grown up with. "Rejoice, Lyon. The time has come... Ephraim, the man you envy..." He briefly paused with a sinister smile before he continued. "And Eirika, the woman you desire... I will now grant you all of your darkest wishes!"

She hated everything about the moment. Standing against him. Unsteadily, her hand held onto the hilt of her rapier. Everything else seemed far off with the exception of Lyon and her. Even thoughts of her brother sat in the background of her mind. Fear and concern were transparent within her gaze, and made treason of her denial to the contrary.

"Lyon, please! You must stop! I..." Briefly she faltered, unable to hide the way his very presence affected her. After all, they'd been apart for so long. "...I have no wish to fight you!"

She was met with laughter, a kind that chilled her to the very bone. "Wretched girl. Are you listening, Lyon? Is this truly the girl you loved? Then I will use these hands to tear her limb from limb!"

Lyon.

Just like that, the next few minutes passed. Connor looked at Eirika without actually feeling like she was in front of him. He just saw Eirika in front of a man, her twin brother, and-

He couldn't fathom a coherent thought yet on how he felt about this.

He saw a vision? Memory? He, as an Assassin, was not a stranger to a sixth sense. In fact, oddly, he and his other kin could use it. Eagle Vision. But he didn't have anything like this, so it left him speechless; completely.

He would tear apart whomever threatened her, but everyone hesitated at this Lyon. One recall of events gathered that both Eirika and her brother knew him, respected him, liked him.

...Maybe loved.

The man who was "Lyon" didn't seem like himself, there was something incorrect about his demeanor. Referring to his own name and all, like something took him over. Something evil.

He loved her, but he-

Connor felt sick for Eirika, and sick in general. But still, he looked at her blankly for a few moments longer before regaining himself.

He was still silent.

She didn't know how to interpret what had just happened. Either what she had witnessed from him, or the very concept that he saw something so very private to her. She already had her sentiments set aside where Lyon was concerned. Sentiments she wasn't ready to talk about yet, or ever. Unless she somehow managed to save him and then she likely would have some things to explain. To someone. At some point. She just didn't know what or to whom.

Eirika shook her head, as if to clear her head of what she'd seen, except the sting of both memories, Connor's and hers, remained stamped upon her heart in a most prominent manner. It did nothing to truly clear them aside. Only to briefly disguise them under logic and an apologetic glance.

"...That..." She drew in a deep breath, "...I suppose with everything else that has happened here, it shouldn't have surprised me so. I didn't expect it." She was quiet, uncertain, and unaware of how to proceed. In some ways, she didn't want an explanation and in others, she did.

"I also guess your issues with your father were far deeper than I had truly known. Hearing of it did not prepare me for that."

How else would his father be brought up just like that? Then he was overcome with a sense of fear. Connor thought to himself, what had she seen? Anything about Haytham deep within his memories were either horrible or awkward. That comment she made basically wound that down to something horrible.

There was something about such a sensitive subject being displayed that terrified him.

If it involved these plants, which he was sure of, then it was either start going back to tearing them down. Or retreating.

Eirika outright said something, so Connor had to. With a worried expression, he replied with, "I...now understand what you meant about dark magic, and why you wish to learn it."

She wasn't sure how to interpret his response or his explanation. The mistletoe was something she'd been up against before. Just the year prior, she and Connor were exchanging adoring looks between one another. Just the year before, they'd discussed what the very definition of mistletoe was. A plant for lovers and infatuations. It really was as simple as that.

This felt entirely different. Was... was there even mistletoe above them? Eirika hadn't checked. She'd not even considered it when Connor leaned in. Had he done it intentionally? It was the case of too many questions and not enough answers. Complicated enough that she didn't know where to even begin. What a pain.

Connor's words entered one ear and didn't quite leave. If anything, they remained and echoed with promise. A promise of what? Demise? Further complication? Nothing had ever really been easy between them. Why not throw in concepts of fathers and sons at war with one another? Why not toss in a side of best friend slash jealous lover consumed by dark magic? It was a headache, to say the least.

Frowning, Eirika looked aside with thought, "Hm... I... What is it that we experienced?"

Connor couldn't answer that, not really. Was it the shock? Of the experience itself or what he saw?

He couldn't answer that.

Nevermind the small mistletoe hanging on the top of the tree, the one small plant that rued the day and ultimately changed things. To what end, Connor couldn't guess.

"I cannot say," Connor mused, and then he was finally able to force out an explanation and a question, in hopes it got them anywhere.

"I saw a man named Lyon, I saw you and your brother," he began. "Lyon was not himself, and he threatened you both. Or the man who pretended to by Lyon before you."

Long pause, he had no idea how to follow that up. In case he really saw a memory and got a detail wrong. He didn't want to offensively fill in blanks, it was all things he couldn't understand.

"...What did you see?"

"Nothing good."

It was too short and succinct for Eirika to properly reign in her words and offer something more substantial in his direction. As she rubbed the bridge of her nose with some consideration, trying to think less of Lyon and more of Connor's plight, she cleared her throat and decided to try once more. No, she didn't understand what had happened or why. No, she wasn't comfortable with it. And yet there was very little she could do to have changed it. What happened, happened.

Lowering her hand, she eyed Connor a bit closer. Scrutinised, almost, as if she was trying to read what exactly was going through his mind. She couldn't, obviously. "Hm. Your father and you. You trying to salvage your relationship. Him not having it. And him dying. Your last conversation with him, I assume."

Looking aside, she thought for some moments. "You loved him. I don't think he loved you." And she didn't know how she felt in that moment. Not about Haytham. Not about Haytham's relationship with his son. Not about any of that.

All of what she said was a nail in his coffin, so to speak. It felt that way emotionally. Everything felt worse until her final two sentences.

You loved him. I don't think he loved you.

That caused him to stop completely. Did he love Haytham? He knew he had loads of hesitations to kill him, was that love? Could he call their twisted relationship love?

Maybe, maybe not. He loved his mother, he loved Kanen'tó:kon, and he loved Achilles (despite them fighting all the time). Achilles was his father, Achilles oversaw him growing up as a man and as an Assassin. Haytham did not. Haytham said he was proud of him, and then soon after he found his journal. He felt like he did misjudge him, and he was ashamed of that.

Then he saw him again at the school, and Connor refused to recall his feelings on that.

"I never knew him," he simply said. "I cannot claim to have that kind of relationship, even if we were father and son."

It felt empty to say that, but it was all he felt he had the right to say. Then he felt that they were talking to much about him.

"But you knew Lyon. He is important to you."
