merry merry christmas, and I want you to know

Who: YOU
What: KISSLETOES
When: December 14th - January 1st
Where: Everywhere
Warnings: Sloppy makeouts.

SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING...

title or description

The entire school has become covered in mistletoe overnight. It grows out of the walls! The ceilings! Everywhere you least expect it? HOW CAN THIS BE??

It's probably best not to think about it. Attempts to uproot the plants or burn them away only makes the plants grow back faster. For the time being, it seems the school must live with it.

[OOC INSTRUCTIONS:
+ Post dudes, get kisses!
+ Some (NOT ALL) plants are cursed. If you manage to step under a cursed plant, you will exchange a memory when or if you exchange a kiss. The memories will be first-person and very vivid, and characters will feel like they are experiencing the memory in real time, though in reality the transfer is instantaneous. Memories can be as short, long, happy, sad, or traumatic as you like.
+ If you'd like to participate, we highly suggest making a list of a few memories (with accompanying links/descriptions) that are up for grabs, and linking or posting the list in your top-level comment. Memory exchange is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. When in doubt, OOC communication!
+ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAG YOUR CHARACTERS
+ That's it, we love you.

I WASN'T KIDDING.

It was close to the tail end of the infestation, though Kiyotaka didn't know that yet. If he did, he might have waited to pay Hajime's dorm a visit, just in case.

What he did know by now was that the whole memory thing seemed to happen only around the pesky plant whether one was rooted to the spot or not, and it chose memories indiscriminately. It could be as mundane as folding laundry or as traumatic as... well. A good number of the ones that Kiyotaka would have preferred not to have put up on display for others already, or the ones that he got from others that left him feeling dirtied and distressed. Sometimes he had moments of confusion, where he couldn't remember what had and hadn't really happened to him.

Basically, the only safe place for anyone to get their groove on with their significant other was in the safety of a dorm. One of them grew right over his bed last year, but that was surely a freak occurrence that would not repeat itself. Buuut just to be sure, Hajime's dorm it was.

--But it wasn't like he could just go over and just propose they make up for lost time! No, ha ha. Even during winter break, they had to be responsible, or something. Surely Hajime wouldn't be very impressed with him if he came over just for that. And maybe Kiyotaka was far too shy to suggest it anyway. That was why he brought over a textbook.

Brilliant cover story.

So he knocked firmly, and when the door opened, hagakure answered Kiyotaka held the book up, looking quite pleased with himself. "It's time for a surprise cram session!" God. Only he could sound so hyped for that. "Winter break is nearly over, after all! Let's keep on our mental toes!"

TO SMOOCHFINITY AND BEYOND

[personal profile] inspirethefire 2014-12-31 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
In the time since the event began, Hajime's managed to learn a lot of things about this school, and the people within it--namely, that someone needed to hire a therapist as soon as possible.

Still, in a time that should have been a relaxing break, going anywhere had managed to become immensely stressful and overly intimate in too many ways. A friendly face, willingly coming to visit, was a welcome variation.

"Naturally! I should have thought of that! There's only so much time left, before classes begin, after all."

Hajime gladly let Kiyotaka in, altogether too pleased about the idea of reviewing material. Academic grades mattered little here, but old habits were hard to break, and they continued to appreciate the intellectual refuge in a place that valued brawn. Besides, it wasn't like he needed much reason to be glad about Kiyotaka visiting, anyway...

"Ah, I had just gotten some tea, also, would you like some? All the better to keep cozy against the chill outside, ha ha!"

"What splendid timing! I would love some!" Everyone was all about the hot chocolate in these cold winter months, but Kiyotaka and Hajime knew the truth: green tea was the superior winter drink. And summer drink. And for any kind of weather in between, frankly.

"Right, we can do that before we begin." He set the book down on Hajime's desk, his fingers lingering over the cover as he did. Studying had always served a dual purpose. The first was obvious - it helped excel academically, but that didn't seem to matter in a school where teachers behaved unprofessionally enough that some didn't even seem to look at what they were grading. The second was that it was sort of an escape. When things got too lonely or stressful, burying oneself in a book was not only a great distraction but also very productive for the aforementioned reason.

And yet, with all the reason Smash Academy gave him to want to shrink away and get lost in his studies (something it had driven him to do a few times already), lately he was finding that it seemed less and less important. Like there were things beyond the pages he wanted to be paying attention to.

Oh, he was such an awful student. This wasn't good at all. At some point his attention shifted from the book to Hajime, watching the very exciting task of tea preparation, and he mentally kicked himself. Stupid, stupid. He should have learned from last time that dating a study partner was not the smartest thing he could be doing. or maybe hajime was the smartest thing he could be doing, heyyy

He needed to stop comparing it to last time. He was going to psyche himself out. Look at that, nervous sweats already. Incredible.

Luckily enough, for all of Hajime's ineptitude in the kitchen, green tea was too vital a staple for him to go without knowing. aka it was practically all he drank

With how long they'd been doing it, Hajime couldn't place when he realized how useless studying had become, strictly from the perspective of the school. Nearly all the classes focused on material outside that found in books--even those that weren't battle oriented. Arts and sports were important subjects, but Hajime missed the simple things, like math, and science, and languages; things with definite, clear, easy answers.

Definite, clear, easy answers were a hard thing to come by in general, these days.

No, at some point, he'd realized these study sessions weren't about classes at all, but a retreat, to hide behind his precious knowledge that had no strength here. It was selfish, short-sighted, and stubborn, he knew it. He was sheltering himself in his old world, where things like study and academia mattered... a world where "I can't" hadn't stood in his way. Instead of adapting to Final Destination City, he'd refused to let go of what he knew.

Still, for all his self pity, studying still served a dual purpose these days. If it had only been him reviewing by himself, he would have given up long ago, he was sure, but... as a team, all this work allowed him to reassure himself that there was someone else here, with his same values. Kiyotaka Ishimaru was his bastion of sanity and that's just SAD.

Ever since they'd become... involved, things were a little weird. Not bad weird, just... tense, as they tried to figure out how this sort of thing was meant to go. It was these moments, where they studied together like before, everything came so much more naturally. When they were here, alone, without any pressure, everything just went more smoothly.

Naturally, that meant Hajime was worried when he turned back around with the tea to see Kiyotaka looking a bit out of sorts. "Eh? Is something wrong?"

"Ngh-!"

Kiyotaka had no clue just how he did it, but Hajime just had a way of being able to tell when something was up with him. Of course, if he knew about the true extent of his soul vision, or perhaps the fact that he himself had a terrible poker face, maybe it wouldn't come as such a surprise to him each time.

"No, I was just thinking..." About so many things, and none of them really worth bothering Hajime with. He could sort out his own dilemmas... eventually. There was at least one thing they could work out together. "We should start thinking about revising our schedule for next year, shouldn't we? We devote a lot of time to studying together, but now we should think about setting aside time to spend as... as..." Ha ha, it was just a word, he could say it, stop being such a baby.

"Well, you know!"

Nice.
inspirethefire: (Get out of town!)

[personal profile] inspirethefire 2015-01-08 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"As...?"

Of course Hajime was never opposed to organizing more time together, but what wasn't being satisfied by the amount of time they already...?

"Oh--oh. As, uh, right, ahh..." The blush crept over his ears, and he cleared his throat to try and still his stammering. He tried to look as busy as possible with the very complicated action of setting tea down on a desk. "Sure... right! It's best to have time for... for, ah... work and play, as it were!" Way to make it sound as dull as possible. But, it was true, overlapping the two could lead to one dominating the other which really is the end goal here, bow chika.

"Th-then, ahh... what time suits you best?"

Talking about things like relationships and love was a little nerve-wracking, but framing it as something like a daily activity that just needed all the technical details ironed out made it a lot easier. Schedules were good and familiar, and Kiyotaka's previous apprehension seemed to vanish in an instant. Right. Maybe what went wrong with Aoi was a failure to plan things to thoroughly! He wouldn't make the same mistake twice.

"Well, we have two options! The first is finding a new time period each day to spend romantically-" which, while difficult to manage for keeners like them, would mean even more time together and would therefore be a huge plus- "or else we can take the time we currently spend together and shave off time in one area to make time for another. For example, our grades wouldn't suffer at all if we took half an hour out of a study session here or there."

Which was one hundred percent faith in their abilities as students and not an admission that studying did not matter in this godforsaken hole. Or an admission that he would be quite happy to just waste time making out for a whole half hour. That was just vulgar, come on.

"Then we need to think about things like going on dates." Another important ritual. "One weekend a month might work, depending on what we do..."

Shut up Kitty holy crap.

When they talked about it like this, as part of a discipline and schedule, it really did help to keep things from getting too nerve wracking or overwhelming. Some would claim that distancing oneself from a relationship was sort of the wrong way to go about it, but they probably didn't know what they were talking about.

"Hmm, you're right. The second option is definitely the right way to go. Ha ha, after all, we can't spend all of our time together! Not, ah, not that I'd mind, it's just... we, er, need to pace ourselves!" This is not coming out the way he'd hoped. "With all our time spent studying, a little bit of time off together is unlikely to have much negative affect."

It was just like when they spent time bathing together, or camping, or other matters. Extending those promises they'd made to relax together. Definitely not a condemnation of schoolwork. Nope.

"Changing a routine, though, can take an awful lot of time to adjust to. The, er. The best way to, er, incorporate it, is, ah. To begin it as quickly as possible."

Smooth. So smooth. Yeah.

Taking time off of studying was an infinitely better plan than doing something like taking time off of their bonding sessions as friends. Or was it that they were supposed to replace their friendship entirely with their new relationship? No... That sounded like the worst plan, and Kiyotaka wouldn't even open up the possibility. Quality time in both areas seemed like the right way to go! Probably.

To think he once dismissed the notion of such relationships as a useless exercise entirely. In reality, they sure required a lot of careful planning and forethought...

"Right! In that case, we can begin..." His first instinct was to schedule something ahead of time, but the words caught in his throat when he remembered that the opportunity was right in front of them now. "--Er. N-now is opportune, as we haven't begun studying yet! In fact, we can get it all out of our system before we begin so there are no distractions!"

That was a way better idea than maybe stealing a kiss or two between chapters like he was originally hoping. Score.

"Then I am definitely ready to begin when you are!" It was hard to keep the dutiful farce going when his ears felt like they were going to catch fire at any minute. He didn't notice the few stray particles of plaster snow down next to him as plant life writhed beneath the stucco ceiling.
inspirethefire: (Oh crap I forgot it's a girls school)

[personal profile] inspirethefire 2015-01-15 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure... yes! Then, uh. Let's... let's start!" Objectively, now seemed like the most logical time to implement this new... dating... schedule. Actually physically going about it, though, was a little harder to plan. In the depths of considering how to best approach it, a little shifting on the ceiling hardly registered.

"Here, sit down, and I'll... hah, uh..." He took a step closer, than another, feeling terribly stilted. One hand reached up, to cup Kiyotaka's cheek. He bit his lip, and gave a nervous smile. The starting part was awkward, certainly, but... what came next was worth it, surely. "Let's... begin, then..."

The start properly, firmly established, Hajime leaned in, for their lips to meet.

The man slumps, and Hajime practically falls with him, startled by the sudden heavy weight on the other end of the blade. It had all happened too quickly for him to even process, and now there is only red.

Only adrenaline and the tightly wound mechanism in his arm keeps him from dropping the sword in shock, and the blade came out smoothly, far too easily as the foe fell to the ground. The dagger held in the man's hand, by contrast, hits the rubble with a dull clatter.

This wasn't supposed to happen. Why hadn't the scouts warned them? Why hadn't they heard his approach? Why hadn't they been more on guard? Hajime is shaking hard, still gripping his sword in the false hand. This wasn't supposed to happen, this is never meant to happen.

In the sudden, deathly silence, he can feel the gazes of his companions on his back. It had all happened so quickly, had any of them even been able to turn and see before it was over? Would it be better or worse if they had? He can't will himself to turn around and meet their stares, shocked and afraid and confused. Instead, he kneels, reaching with his true, flesh hand, to check for a pulse. It can still be all right, they can try and fix this.

Shouting. To the east--close. His breath catches. There are more of them, and they aren't prepared. This outing was just to gather supplies. None of this was supposed to happen.

"Retreat." The word comes out of his throat deep, firm, hardly shaking at all. This is not the time to falter. There's never a time. "We've got to hurry! Fall back!"

He tears his eyes away from the body, and they run.

He parts from his lover just enough to shrug the jacket of his uniform off, shoulders shaking lightly with breathless laughter. Why does he bother putting on all those layers, asks the other boy, when he knew it was going to come off later anyway, because this was scheduled, it's always planned ahead in advance. It's just as ridiculous a question as asking why he bothers getting dressed when he knows he's going to take his clothes off to go to bed. It's the Hope's Peak uniform, he answers bluntly, and as long as he is on school grounds he's going to wear it properly, unlike someone.

He does flinch a little when it's pointed out that he's eased up a little on a certain few other things he used to be so rigid about, but instead of letting himself rise to the bait, he responds with a shove. His partner's much bigger, and certainly strong enough to take him down, but he gladly lets himself stumble back and topple backwards onto the bed instead. Kiyotaka casts the blazer aside and loosens his tie a little before following after him, eager to pick up where they left off.

Kiyotaka had seen his share of startling and unpleasant things during the infestation, but nothing that made him push his partner back with a startled noise before. He looked down at his hands with wide eyes, positive for a moment that they would be stained red.

It was supposed to be a reprieve from the mindfuck of invasive memories, witnessing events he was never present for and being unable to distinguish his own emotions from whoever he was caught under mistletoe with. He made sure to take a glance at the ceiling when he entered the room and everything. But even if there had been a plant he missed, just what kind of a memory was that? He had seen through the eyes of a murderer. Hajime wasn't... he wouldn't...

His hand shot out to grab Hajime's arm and give a firm squeeze. Flesh and blood. That couldn't have been a memory of his, so what the hell?

"That-- that doesn't make any sense..." Was it a product of his own imagination? That was equally baffling.
inspirethefire: (ok but)

[personal profile] inspirethefire 2015-01-21 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Dazed, Hajime staggered back from the shove. Surely, he hadn't expected to see that face pulling back from a kiss, in any capacity. Numbly, he looked to the ceiling, where a fresh sprig had sprung loose. Ah. That figured. A memory, of... sure, all right... then Kiyotaka had... their relationship was... with his roommate...

The hard tug and squeeze at his arm was enough to pull him back to the present, at least part of the way. Oh, right... Kiyotaka must have seen something. He didn't look well. What could it have been?

"Ah... are you all right? I mean... what did you...?"

How ironic... he'd thought his more pleasant memories could ease out Kiyotaka's harsher ones, and yet it seemed they'd managed the reverse this time.
forgetbeam: (Ouch my pride)

"It's..." Nothing wasn't going to fly after such a kneejerk reaction, even though he would have much preferred to treat it as such. "I saw something, but it couldn't have possibly been real."

His eyes narrowed, gaze drifting slightly to the left as he went over the image in his mind despite himself. It was less clear in his mind's eye now than it had been, thank god. But even with the finer details fading into obscurity, the main event would never leave his memory.

"Somebody was murdered." He curled his fingers one by one. The feeling of a sword in his hand wasn't unfamiliar, at least. But whose hand was he remembering? "But... it definitely can't be one of your memories!"

He sounded less certain than he wanted to be.
inspirethefire: (since when?!)

[personal profile] inspirethefire 2015-02-04 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That certainly did a better job shaking him out of the disorientation. He sat up, startled and bewildered.

"M...murdered? No, that... I've never witnessed something like that! How could you..."

His brow furrowed as his mind wracked for an explanation. "The memories this time... they've never belonged to other people before this, but could they possibly...?"

At that point, he couldn't help himself from the little sprig of hope blooming in his gut. Maybe he'd misheard the voice, in that memory, and someone else had been there...
forgetbeam: (The choices we make)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2015-02-09 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"It's... It's possible..."

Right, there was no way he could imagine Hajime every having a sword in his cold metal hand. Except it wasn't too difficult a mental image to conjure up, and a chill ran down Kiyotaka's spine at the thought. That was his own imagination playing tricks on him, surely. Hajime wouldn't lie about this kind of thing.

"There's no rhyme or reason to the plants at all! They could be doing anything! We'd have to see if it happens again... You must not have seen anything that strange this time, did you?"
inspirethefire: (hhhhhhey now back up)

[personal profile] inspirethefire 2015-02-11 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah... I..."

Red crept in over his ears. Right... now that he had to try and speak of it, not only did the nerves come back, but he realized just how invasive his sight had been. Even if Kiyotaka wasn't the person involved, to peek in on something like that was simply mean.

"It... it was an... a very, very intimate moment, that I... ah..." How much was all right for him to say? "Er. O...Oowada was involved."
forgetbeam: (pic#8320550)

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2015-02-24 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, he knew about the brojobs.

"That was...! Er... Was he...?"

Or, hey, it didn't have to be that one totally isolated incident. It could have been something that was actually completely innocent. One of the mistletoe makeouts from last year, or something as innocuous as bathing or... something. It was best to leave it alone. YEP.

Or maybe it was a memory that belonged to someone else, in which case he really wanted to know why he had no idea about this aspect of Mondo's life (despite being a hypocrite and telling him nothing about Hajime yet) and hey, what did he think he was doing when he should have been focusing on studies, and-- well. He'd worry about that next time he saw Mondo.

"Whatever you saw, it definitely has nothing to do with the present! I guarantee that much!"
inspirethefire: (Ah.)

[personal profile] inspirethefire 2015-02-24 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing to do with... right. Of course, right!"

That seemed to be all Kiyotaka wanted to say on the matter, so... it would be best to leave it at that, wouldn't it? He had to trust what he was provided.

"Yes... ah! You, ah, you said this was your first relationship with... with another man." Still red in the face over here. "It must have been from someone else, then!"

He'd just heard wrong, misinterpreted the whole thing. The memories were getting screwed around. Everything made sense, in that none of it did but at least it made sense in a way that allowed him to ignore uncomfortable, confusing things, and that was what mattered in the end.
