SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING...



The entire school has become covered in mistletoe overnight. It grows out of the walls! The ceilings! Everywhere you least expect it? HOW CAN THIS BE??

It's probably best not to think about it. Attempts to uproot the plants or burn them away only makes the plants grow back faster. For the time being, it seems the school must live with it.

[OOC INSTRUCTIONS:

+ Some (NOT ALL) plants are cursed. If you manage to step under a cursed plant, you will exchange a memory when or if you exchange a kiss. The memories will be first-person and very vivid, and characters will feel like they are experiencing the memory in real time, though in reality the transfer is instantaneous. Memories can be as short, long, happy, sad, or traumatic as you like.
+ If you'd like to participate, we highly suggest making a list of a few memories (with accompanying links/descriptions) that are up for grabs, and linking or posting the list in your top-level comment. Memory exchange is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. When in doubt, OOC communication!

"You have NO idea!" Jolt replied, jumping in place and posing triumphantly. "So much better than before!" he declared happily. "I can finally run, I can finally eat, I'm awesome! Thanks for checking up on me before."

Voile shook her head modestly. "No, no. It's fine. I realise I must have come off awfully strong. I apologise for that. I was merely worried about you. But I'm very pleased that you're better. You look so much better than you must have before. And you sound a lot better, too."

She leaned over to get a better look at him, "Are you sure you're doing all right? Nothing's out of place or anything like that?"

"Nope, everything's great again! See?"

He tried to take off in a run to show her, but his legs were frozen in place... "Wait, what the...?" He looked up.

"Aw, crap," he said, seeing the mistletoe over head.

Really. Really? Voile should have seen it coming. And she even had Foresight. Yet she couldn't stop thinking about what Kiyotaka had said. Or what she'd witnessed with Bulba. Shaking her head, she found herself folding her arms across her chest.

"I dislike being the bearer of bad news, Jolt, and while I would normally not mind at all kissing you to freedom, this year's plants seem to have... some additional issues. Not all of them, I'm sure. But... People are exchanging memories. Or one-sided memories. It's not always an exchange. So if you have something really private you don't want me knowing, I may have to hunt down someone you can trust for you."

"That's... new," Jolt said. He'd seen some strange things, particularly around holidays, but memory swapping plant life? That was new. He momentarily wondered if Bulba knew how that could happen, since he knew all about plant life, but he quickly shook his head.

"Look, whatever I've got rattling around in here isn't THAT bad," he told her. "It's no big deal."

"Oh... If you really think so..."

Voile shook her head slowly, hoping to Bob. Pele. Kyogre. Ray. Any of them, that she might not give him something she didn't want him to have. It was one thing for him to give her a memory. But she really didn't want anyone to have any of hers.

And she'd already parted with one and not of her own volition.

She reached up and tapped a high cheekbone. "Like something here is okay?"

"Yep, that's fine with me," he answered. It was really no big deal to him. Not that he didn't think Voile was cute, but forced mistletoe kisses weren't exactly the way to get his motor running, especially when all he wanted to do was get running.

And she could sympathise. A great deal, actually. In prior years she was accustomed to saving others from the mistletoe, but she was usually able to avoid herself. Usually. She wasn't relying on that good fortune forever, though. Eventually she'd get caught, so maybe if she stopped dillydallying, she could better increase her chances of evasion.

Moving closer, she leaned in just enough to set a kiss to his cheek and afterward, wore a preemptive smile of accomplishment. "Tada~ That should do it, right?"

And on the inside, she hoped there was no sign of late memory exchanges occurring. The mistletoe certainly had their own way of doing things.

Huh... No memories this time. Not that it was a big deal to him. He got a kiss on the cheek, and he got free. Everything was awesome.

He lifted his leg, confirming that he could move again, and to celebrate he did a quick lap, then raised his finger and blasted down the mistletoe with a spark of electricity. "There! Thanks Voile, you're a lifesaver!" he declared.

If anything, she had been braced for the impact. Yet nothing came and she wanted to breathe a sigh of relief. Except she didn't, because for all she knew, at the last minute mistletoe could decide she hadn't suffered enough and put her through more.

Jolt took her attention near immediately, however, as he demonstrated his freedom from the holiday plants of madness and mayhem. And oddly as it was, she smiled. A sincere smile, and felt more like herself in those moments than she normally had. Something she chalked up to feeling a bit vulnerable.

"Happy to help," she said. "Stay out of trouble. But if you need assistance again, I should—oh, wait." Voile lifted her hands and fished for her cell phone before showing it to him. "Do you have one? If so, let's trade numbers."

"Oh, yeah! Sure thing!" Jolt said, reaching for his pocket.

Then he patted his other pockets.

"Oh. Right... I kinda fried my phone back when I was puking up lightning," he said sheepishly. "Well... Lemme give you my number, and I'll add yours when I get my phone replaced!"

As she was consumed by some lighter chuckles, she offered her phone in his direction. "Go ahead and put it in and then when you replace your phone, call me or text me, just so you can tell me it's you. And then I'll be able to save your information."

A pause and as she waited for him to return her phone, she slipped her hands behind her back, "I've actually been dying for a reason to use it. I've had it for a few years and have just never really used it too much. Like Marie texted me once or twice, and Bulba used it to get a hold of me last year, or maybe the year prior. I think Knuckles—the old one—used it to call me when we had the black out. Were you here for that?"

As soon as he had it, he started to type in his number. "I'll text you as soon as I get my phone fixed up!"

He looked up, offering her phone back when he finished. "Yeah, I was here for that," he explained. "The heat was out for so long, and me and the rest of the team had to work together to stay warm."

She retrieved her phone when he was done and tucked it away from wherever she'd withdrawn it. her bust "Yeah... That sure lasted a while. Knuckles came and sat in my room with me until I fell asleep. I'm kind of surprised we haven't had something like that happen again. But I guess the winters since then haven't been nearly as bad in comparison."

Then she smiled, "Thanks for your number! I promise not to bug you too much when you get a new phone, Jolt."

Jolt stared. "Thankfully," he said. "Glad Knuckles was there to look out for you! It was a miserable time, and I'm glad nobody had to do it alone."

"Don't worry about it," he told her. "I don't mind at all! It'll be fun!" he laughed. "Soon as I can, I'll text you!"

"That sounds wonderful," Voile replied brightly. "And like I said..."

She motioned to the mistletoe once more, "If you end up caught again, I'll do my best to help you out. Otherwise, I imagine you'll probably be doing your best to stay out of trouble."

"Same to you," he told her. "Stay safe out there!" he told her, waving as he bolted off again, this time zig-zagging to avoid stray mistletoe overhead.
