A LIBRARY LOG: The log I have owed for half a year.

Who: YOU.
What: ARE IN THE LIBRARY.
When: A log for the month of January.
Warnings: SHHHHHHHHH IT'S A LIBRARY.

You approach a building. It is covered in ivy, and does not seem all that impressive on the outside.

YOU ENTER.

The scent of books hits you palpably in the face.

By choice or not, you have crossed the threshold into the library. It is time to be quiet, or that ghostly pale, little red-eyed girl that stared at you as you entered will set you on fire. At least, that's what you believe she could probably do. Seems like it.

You quickly realize that this building has three and a half stories. All of them are full of books and strange little corners and cubbies and arm chairs that mysteriously seem to move every so often when the weird pale girl is not at the front desk.

You quickly realize that you are SO LOST.

Should you desire to learn of this strange buildings interior in GREAT DETAIL, you may do so here. However this probably won't help you become UNLOST. Neither will this CONVENIENT LIST OF BOOK CATEGORIES.

But don't panic!!! THE PALE GIRL WILL HELP YOU. OR PERHAPS THE STRANGE METAL BALL. Or is it a ginger. No one is ever really sure these days. But they are the librarian and library assisstant, respectively, and they will do what they can to either help you or get you EVEN MORE LOST. It depends on who you get. God rest your soul.

OTHER THINGS OF NOTE:
❀ Vianca, the librarian, sits upon a great many books stacked on her roller chair while she is at the front desk. You should ask her to do something just so you can see the spectacle that is climbing down. When she is not climbing up and down the books or taking care of things in the shelves, you can usually find her ere reading. This month she has started to plow through all things art and art history related, hooray.

✿ Wheatley, the assisstant, is currently having human issues and has created a nest of sweaters and blankets underneath the desk at Vianca's feet. You probably shouldn't ask to pet him. But why would you. When you can't hear him, he is probably... not there. Because otherwise you know he is there. Don't worry about finding him, he'll find you.

❀ The Library is for everyone.

✿ The Library's hours vary nowadays, but you can reliably find it open between 8-6 daily. Sometimes you can find it open as early as 6 am, and as late as 11.

---

[Hello this is an OPEN LOG. It is here for whatever business you might have in the library in the month of January. You may leave open threads, or have closed threads that you have plans for. It is all good here~

- Please mark your threads OPEN or CLOSED. If OPEN, one or both library employees might drop in. If you'd like someone specific, just leave a note! If CLOSED, you may still request a library person should you need one. Just let us know!

No pity from him, little sheep. NO PITY.

Okay, okay, maybe a little pity.

"You don't sit in chairs when you can be treated as nothing more than a cushion," states Shadow, heading for her and attempting to scoop her up in his hands. "You will be sat on."

That's just common sense!

But look at those beady eyes, Saddow. The cry that she gives this time is just as sad, but it's more of a sorry sad to Shadow than for what just happened. She didn't knoow she would be treated as a cushion! Why would she treated as a cushion? Better ask that too. "Mareeep, mahh?"

Oh and hope you're wearing gloves, Shadow. And don't step on her book...! Her bright and colourful book with big words. It's a story book.

Oh, thankfully, Shadow does have gloves. He holds her as he takes his seat, snatching it carelessly from her. That would be terribly rude of him, if not for the fact that he planted her right on his lap straight after. He leans carefully over to scoop up the book, which avoided a horrible stomping.

"You were reading this, weren't you?" He sets it down in front of her. There. That'll keep her quiet.

The Mareep was surprised by this turn of events - maybe not her being turned over thankfully, but the part where she ended up on his lap. Her kept stood on him for a while, until she realised that, yes, he was letting her stay.

And he even moved her book, too! Looking at it from his lap, Maisy found as well it was much easier. It hadn't been a total pain on her neck, but sitting slouched over the side of the chair did make it hard to turn the page when she needed to.

It was much closer, too! Her eyes peered over her nose down at the book, the words and pictures much clearer! It was a book about a girl who went into a house that belonged to a biiiiig family...

But Maisy wasn't going to just go back to reading right away. She turned her head up to Shadow, looking at his face as much as she can, as she gave to him a thankful "Mareep!" before plopping herself down comfortably onto him. And good-- even sitting she could still see over the table!

"Hmph."

Of course, she just earned the typical Shadow response. He wasn't going to bounce right up to welcoming her with a smile on his face. He'd look like a ridiculous goofball. Was he a ridiculous goofball? No way. He's manly as hell.

She- She was kind of cute, though, baaing with gratitude and sticking her nose into the book she coveted. He hadn't started reading yet, so maybe he could... just...

No, that'd be stupid and not manly as hell. Shadow wasn't. He wouldn't.

Yet he did, gently scratching the top of her adorable fuzzy-lumpkin head. Aaaww.

She was incredibly cute. And what was more cute than a Mareep trying to read a book? Check the Guinness book of world records, Sheppow, it's pretty far up there in the official list of cute. Maisy was very happy with simply sitting on this person's lap and reading her book, and she didn't budge to try to turn the pages too quickly - she wanted to make sure she knew every word like it was the most important thing. Maisy was learning, and how else to learn but patiently and with a lot of serious care?

"Mmmaaaaaa~"

Oh -- but okay, Maisy just can't resist reacting to where she gets some love. Her voice was something like a purr, echoing against her throat, simply a sound of pleasure than any actual word. Maybe she shouldn't be so easily content and happy in the lap of a stranger, but there certainly seemed nothing wrong with it right now!

She tipped her head up a bit, to allow the man to do what he might like. The very manly man.

Aw. Okay, fine, maybe this was pretty cute. It wasn't like this one could speak anyway. As long as she never humanized or knew him by name, maybe this little spell of sugary fun time wouldn't get out. Shadow had his secrets, and filed away with his tea parties and playing dress up, both with Maria, was this one. Look, he just couldn't resist cute things, not that easily. Just as long as word of this never got out to anyone, he'd be fine. Though... what if Resetti found out? Evve? Eggman? X? Oh, heaven forbid, Sonic?

Nope. That was not going to happen.

Oh, but what was she reading? It looked a lot like a book Maria might have liked. He used to read those with her, sometimes even to her to lull her to sleep. Maybe he'd know this one if 50-year-old classics still floated about.

"I didn't think you could read." His free hand trailed along the side of the book, tempted on flipping it so he could see the title. He held back solely for this little Mareep, but he remained far too curious.

"Hn. I want to see this."

"Mareep" came as an answer to her ability to read. She could! Well, barely, but that's why she was reading, so she could read more. Not that Maisy tried to explain that at all, since explanations didn't always work - sometimes, but she doubted it would here.

But -- he wanted to look? "Ma, mareep." The Mareep turned her head a bit to look at Shadow, offering to him the permission to take a look. In the case though he didn't understand it, she lowered her head and bumped her nose against his hand, then moved her head away. Take a look!

Know any stories about a blonde-haired girl and three big creatures, Shadow?

Oh, yes, that was definitely familiar. Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Or, no, wait-- that wasn't quite it. I mean, it was, but the bears were not just bears. They were Ursaring.

Well, it was the same exact thing, so what the hell. Shadow really didn't care about getting into the semantics of the whole thing.

"Yes, I know this one." He especially took note of the cute little blond. He always remembered Maria thinking they looked alike. Heh. "I... had a friend who enjoyed reading it before bed."

He wished he could read it to her now, but alas.

So he knew the story? That was good! Maisy thought it was a pretty book, but she hadn't gotten far into it herself. Before Shadow had come along, Maisy had gotten to the girl peering into the window of the house! So, pretty much still the start. But hey, since Shadow didn't appear to mind the book...

"Mareeeeep?" With a questioning tone to her voice, the Mareep looked straight up at Shadow, bending her head back. Did he want to read the book with her?

He couldn't quite tell what her intent is, so he decided to go with an answer that would adhere to one of his theories: offering the book in a questioning manner or asking if he wanted to read it with her or... something.

"I am only curious," Shadow informed her with a stroke of his hand over her head. "Nostalgic, interested, and nothing more."

He had to wonder, though...

Would this little sheep read Little Bo Peep & Her Mareep?
fluffyhearted: (pic#5377393)

[personal profile] fluffyhearted 2013-01-21 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Would the mister offer? The Mareep at his answer gave a "maa" in understanding, brought her head back down, but really, Maisy wouldn't have minded if he did want to read it! And it was a good position for the two, with him in front of the book and she on his lap.

But whatever Shadow chose to do, she would have to wait for him to do it. For example, opening her book back up for her to read if he decided to go to his own book.

Or was Little Bo Peep & Her Mareep Shadow's literature for the hour?

Say no more, Maisy! Her triumphant hedgehog hero saved the day by flipping the book open to the very first page (well, beyond the copyrights and other unimportant goodies). Shadow eyed her carefully. Was he going to have to read it for them both? So stupid...

...

Well, no one was around. Maybe just this once, he could kind of bend...

"Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks," he began, his voice low so only she could hear. "She lived at the edge of the forest with her family."

He glanced back down at her. Was this fine?

He said he had only been curious - and though Maisy wouldn't have minded if he was more than that, she took him seriously to mean that he had no interest. Even though it looked like a very good book, the Mareep wouldn't ask him any further.

But oh, she didn't need to; and when she heard him say the opening words, her eyes blinked and her head lifted to the familiarity of what she was hearing. She had not so long read those words herself. Perhaps if she had visible ears, they would had turned and twitch.

Maisy looked back up to Shadow, looking at him with some curiosity, but she didn't say anything. Instead, she gave her answer by sticking her head closer to the book and waiting for him to continue. Another glance back though, wondering and eager, to wait and see when he would continue.

Her attention was all his.

Well, Shadow was just going to take that as a pleasant sign, and... and oh, goodness, she was far too cute for words. Cuteness was one of his very few (according to his idea of himself) weaknesses. Sheesh, at least nobody else was around to witness this terribly heart-warming state they were in. For that reason, he continued, his smooth, sweet voice granting her this tale, his words made soft in tone.

"One morning, while she was picking flowers, Goldilocks wandered into the forest and lost her way," continued Shadow, his voice dropping slightly to give the story its proper weight. "She was very frightened, but then she saw a friendly little cottage in the distance."

He flipped the page, displaying two pictures, one on each, before Maisy's eyes. One was of three Ursaring leaving their home, and the next was of Goldilocks preparing to sample some oatmeal. On these pages, he read, "The friendly little cottage belonged to three Ursaring. One was a great big..." Shadow trailed off with a slight cringe. 'Papa, mama'? He was going to reword that. "... father, one was a middle-sized mother, and one was a tiny little boy that had just recently evolved. That morning, the three bears decided to take a walk while their porridge – which tastes like oatmeal – was cooling. It was too hot to eat."

He gave a somewhat disgruntled sigh, taking a moment to give his critique so far, not having yet flipped the page.

"This is the worst rendition of this story I've read so far." Papa and mama? The transitions being uncomfortable? Awful and horrible.
