Smash Kinematics
Who: Gordon and you. YES YOU.
What: Physics class
Where: Gordon's teaching lab & the immediate grounds outside
When: Mid-Morning
Warnings: Ethically questionable treatment of sandbags.
Unlike most teachers here, Gordon had handled a physics classroom before--Grad students go to extremes for money. He figured a multiple-tier structure would work, two difficulty levels covering the same subject.
In this case, their first set of homework could either be a tame block of algebraic expressions or a sultry set of differentials depending the student's level. Either way, the the lecture and lab would essentially be the same.

Attendance
"Alright class. My name's Doctor Gordon Freeman, though I respond to Doctor Freeman, Mister Freeman, or Gordon. As you're probably awre this is a teired course. Two difficulty levels, Alpha and Lambda. Alpha will focus on the simpler stuff. Lambda requires a little more knowledge in mathematics and science. I'll ask you to stand up and tell me your names and which tier you signed up for."
Re: Attendance
GUESS WHO'S HERE. ON TIME TOO.
MR. MUSCLES McNICEGUY.
Surely he's not good at school because he looks like a jock.
You'll be surprised. Maybe.
no subject
Gordon sadly IS working on the assumption that Mac is a jock. But he likes him anyway.
"Mac! Good to see you here. So what tier did you register for, hm?"

You've been Apple Kid'd
The teenager who could probably stand to have a bath stands up. "My name is Apple Kid, Mr. Freeman, and I'm a genius inventor, so I signed up for the Lambda course. My mouse is also signed up for the Lambda course, as he is my assistant."
The mouse squeaks a cheery squeak of agreement.
no subject
Excellent. Ah... did you say your mouse was taking the course too?
[Is that some half-assed attempt to earn dual credit, or something?]

OTL
So much that I have a telephone icon for him

Re: Attendance
The kid didn't stand up, though. He hadn't actually signed up for the class or either tier so there was no reason for him to. He would just sit there. Learning.

"I'm... Chihiro Fujisaki, I'm mostly good at computers, but I know a bit of science, so I'll be taking Lambda."
Chihiro then stammered, "i-if that's alright."
He seemed nice though, plus it was really okay for Chihiro to take something higher despite the possible challenge, right...?

Re: Attendance
Oh, isn't this a familiar face? Up rises N, his calm smile solid, confidence permeating the air around him. This is one of his best subjects, and really, his personal choice should be no surprise.
"As you recall, I am N Harmonia, and I have signed into the Lambda tier."

"Good morning!! My name is Kiyotaka Ishimaru and I have signed up for the Lambda tier!"
Courses that adhered to strict logic like math and science were his favourite. It meant he could totally ace them if he studied hard, which was exactly what he planned to do.

However, she knew that her lack of schooling for the past several years had put her behind in terms of education, so when asked her name and level, she simply wrote it out:
Chell. Alpha.

Re: Attendance
His desk was clear.
But when he had the textbook on standby in an ebook reader program, and a means to take notes open as well, he didn't exactly need it.
Standing up and introducing himself was something X wasn't used to, but he gave it his best, anyway:
"Good morning, Mr. Freeman. My name is X, and I registered for Lambda. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Lecture/Student Questions
Hey, I said the lecture was the same for both tiers. That didn't mean it would be easy to follow. Got a question? Good luck getting his attention; he seems to be lost in what he's saying.
"For those that start at rest, the task is simplified. Then you set the initial velocity at zero, and everything falls together after that."
...Was that supposed to be a pun?
"...Hn, I thought that would get a laugh."
Jeez, Gordon.
mun actually laughed
Because he was...taking notes.
Welp.
Mission accomplished! \o/

What a good student with a good sense of humor, eh?
Lab Time!
...Yes, there's at least a dozen of them stacked into a corner, quietly eyeing everyone in the room. Wait... do they have wires sticking out of them? Sensors? My god, what did he DO to them!?
"Well, it just so happens that these are your lab equipment for the day. You'll take these things outside, grab a bat if you prefer..."
He grabs the nearest one and drags it towards the large open doors to the outside that were installed in case of
resonance cascadefire. With a flip of the crowbar, a swing and a loud SMAAAASH, that bag is gone!
"...and knock them as far as you can! Data returning to my phone will relay the initial speed and angle, and from there YOU get to calculate the highest point of its trajectory, time in flight, and how far it goes without any meter-markers whatsoever."
"Alright! Go to it! And do yourselves a favor and try NOT to send these things into orbit, that'll complicate your calculations considerably."
no subject
He says that with a smirk. Because this is the most fun lab he's ever had to do. Ever.
Aw but. Bats. Naaaah. That ain't a boxer's tool. Mac could use this as an opportunity to test his strength for career purposes. Why not? If he had it, he should use it?
"...Do we gotta use a bat?"

Apple Kid is looking at the sandbags. Apple Kid is looking at the baseball bat. Apple Kid is wishing Ness were here. Apple Kid is... well he's pulled out a wrench and some wires out of a pocket and is now taping a baseball bat to one of the sandbags.

"Must we... harm them for the sake of this test?"
N's heart sinks. Oh, no, he really doesn't want to hurt them! They're alive and well just like they are! He can't bear seeing them in pain!

While she was flexible and obviously a "good jumper," she excelled more in the strength of her legs than her arms. Figuring she could send the bag a bit farther by kicking it, she turned around and moved her foot backwards, using the strength of her gluteals to slam her boot hard into the bag. It moved probably a decent distance.

Observers/Lurkers
Re: Observers/Lurkers
anyof what was being said and well, his notes were really more like doodles. But he was trying to pay attention, his eyes following any graphs or figure drawings made and having a much easier time with those - not that that was saying anything.(no subject)

Probably some moment while Gordon busied himself with the lecture was when the blonde Armed Weaponry/Bio-mechanic teacher slipped in with her own labcoat on, quietly and unintrusively. She didn't even take a seat, she simply leaned up against the wall and watched him.
Watching or silently judging, it really was difficult to tell with that perpetual line-face and piercing blue eyes of hers.
