LOCKDOWN

Who: GLaDOS and everyone.
What: Testing.
Where: Aperture Smash Academy
When: August 13th
Warnings
: Homicidal AI, science, testing, and more science.
Reference: Partner ooc post.

You know, it's funny how things work in life. Chell had had returned to the school after feeling guilty, in order to warn everyone about the impending danger that would befall them. What she didn't know, however, was that once the warning goes out, all it does is enrage the AI. So before anyone would dare leave, all the exit doors in the school became boarded up with panels. Any windows that may have been at the school were closed off, preventing any other means of escape.

For an hour or so, nothing happens besides that. No announcement, no warning, nothing. That is, until panels on the floor open up underneath any unsuspecting victim. The panels will lead to tubing, sending them downwards. Down into a plain white room. Thankfully, for those of you who didn't put on your Long Fall Boots, there will be a cushion to land on. Other than that, the room itself is fairly empty. The only things of mention is a table containing the equipment from the beginning of the week (if you didn't take it), a door (that won't open unless you have all the equipment), and...another person: your partner. Meanwhile, a message from GLaDOS chimes in over the intercom:

"The lockdown of Smash Academy is now complete. For those of you who are curious as to what is going on, a manual testing initiative has been added to the school's curriculum, for students and staff alike. In order to advance, you will need to work with your partner to complete the test. Failure to do so will result in...dangerous consequences.

No one will be allowed out of their current chamber until they are equipped with a communicator, a pair of Long-Fall Boots, and a Dual Portal device. Once those objects are in hand, you may start testing.

That is all.
"

Good luck testing, Smash. You're going to need it.

it comes on the warning label ;)

His concerns would end up being unwarranted, for once Shinon made it up into the air, he was quick to recover from the force the fall/jump provided him.

...Well, this would be a new experience to remember. There wasn't anything he'd done before that was quite like this... But the archer didn't bother soaking in the moment, because a button presented itself in his view. Clearly, it was to be pressed. Shinon was quick to move for the button, and he hit it. He looked to Byrne as he descended, waiting to see what he'd do next with due skepticism. The portal remained below him.

Byrne could hear the click in the distance as Shinon hit the button. Well, he wasn't as stupid as he looked, then. However, Byrne would never let on to the archer that it took him a long time beforehand to figure out the mechanics of this kind of room, since he was so unfamiliar with the technology; it baffled him.

Fortunately, though, Byrne had time beforehand to figure everything out. He was indeed thankful for that, for if he looked at all stupid in front of anyone, especially Shinon, he would never live it down.

He positioned the other Portal to the other white floor, enabling Shinon to fall through the floor and push the other button if he was at all capable of doing so. Byrne said nothing, though.

At that point, Shinon was this close to questioning Byrne's actions. He hadn't had the opportunity to consider the fact that the two buttons would need to be pressed consecutively, nor did he have the opportunity to realize what Byrne was up to. Regardless, he fell through the portal before he had even a moment's opportunity to get his point across. A good thing, as far as his pride was concerned.

Sure enough, there was another button to be activated. Shinon twisted himself to reach for it, successfully pressing that one as well. He didn't feel as accomplished as he might have had he been more aware of the second button. He knew that from now on, if he wanted to best Byrne, he had to be more thoughtful and consider every possibility like this. Luckily, his shame was completely personal, and he didn't plan on making it known that he didn't know what was going on for a moment. He kept his expression cool, as if he knew all along what needed to be done.

It was time to see what he planned on doing next. Had he missed anything...?
dothelokomotion: (I'm better than you.)

Well good. Shinon was quicker than Byrne thought; Shinon's movements were too quick for Byrne to see any sort of disdain or questioning about his positioning of the portals. Whatever. It was better to do this with as little bickering as possible, as long as Byrne proved that he was far superior.

Thankfully this test chamber was going by rather quickly, since Shinon had at least half a brain. Maybe. Either way, the button activation caused two large spheres to drop down, so Byrne grabbed one, bringing it over to the node in the floor that seemed to fit it perfectly.

And voila, once he put the node in, the door was open. So, he glared back at Shinon in a motion for him to move along.

Shinon wandered closer to Byrne after recovering from his fall. From the looks of things... that was it. He quirked an eyebrow.

"So that's all?" he mumbled to Byrne. "Easier than that wench makes it out to be."

Byrne actually had to agree with Shinon. Well, it was easier than the first time he had to do one of these tests at least. But he would never tell anyone about that time.

"They may get harder," he muttered, "So don't screw up."

May, huh? Though he was always on the lookout for challenging situations, the way Byrne said it made it come across as believable. What was it about that...? He dedicated a moment to try and figure the other man out before letting out an apathetic "Hmmn" and moving on to pass into the next room. "Whatever you say. Let's get going."

Teamwork is hard.
