LOCKDOWN

Who: GLaDOS and everyone.
What: Testing.
Where: Aperture Smash Academy
When: August 13th
Warnings
: Homicidal AI, science, testing, and more science.
Reference: Partner ooc post.

You know, it's funny how things work in life. Chell had had returned to the school after feeling guilty, in order to warn everyone about the impending danger that would befall them. What she didn't know, however, was that once the warning goes out, all it does is enrage the AI. So before anyone would dare leave, all the exit doors in the school became boarded up with panels. Any windows that may have been at the school were closed off, preventing any other means of escape.

For an hour or so, nothing happens besides that. No announcement, no warning, nothing. That is, until panels on the floor open up underneath any unsuspecting victim. The panels will lead to tubing, sending them downwards. Down into a plain white room. Thankfully, for those of you who didn't put on your Long Fall Boots, there will be a cushion to land on. Other than that, the room itself is fairly empty. The only things of mention is a table containing the equipment from the beginning of the week (if you didn't take it), a door (that won't open unless you have all the equipment), and...another person: your partner. Meanwhile, a message from GLaDOS chimes in over the intercom:

"The lockdown of Smash Academy is now complete. For those of you who are curious as to what is going on, a manual testing initiative has been added to the school's curriculum, for students and staff alike. In order to advance, you will need to work with your partner to complete the test. Failure to do so will result in...dangerous consequences.

No one will be allowed out of their current chamber until they are equipped with a communicator, a pair of Long-Fall Boots, and a Dual Portal device. Once those objects are in hand, you may start testing.

That is all.
"

Good luck testing, Smash. You're going to need it.

Sig stayed quiet, letting the other talk on. It wasn't that he didn't like talking, he just didn't have anything to say. He gave his head a tilt, forgetting how they had arrived at this room for a moment.

"...?" Oh, right, falling through. He pointed towards the cushion in response. "Fell through."

Rhys widened his eyes a smidge in bemusement at the cushy island amid a sea of boring white. It was like a miracle. Or like it was laid there intentionally by someone. "Oh. Well, that's convenient." He really wish he knew what to make of this...

Next thing he noticed was a table with the gear they had been presented with first thing after they returned from the love hotel fiasco. He didn't have the portal device on him, just the boots. Since he was falling halfway through, he only caught snatches of the intercom's message, but the parts he did hear played back in his head as he drew a connection. "Maybe this has to do with that 'manual testing initiative' thing that woman was talking about over the intercom. I wonder if I should follow suit and equip one of those devices..." He headed over and removed it from its platform, not entirely sure how to... use it.

How embarrassing. He turned to his partner. "Ah... Do you know how these go on?"

This is coming from the guy who doesn't know which way to hold a sword correctly. Of course he doesn't know how to stick a portal gun on his arm.

Sig gave a look at the device the other was holding before looking down at his own arm. How did he even put it on, again? He tilted his head, unsure how to explain it.

In the end, Sig just showed his arm for Rhys to see.

"...Like this."

That... didn't really show him the process, just the finished result. But at least he could tell which side to fasten it to his arm! Thus, Rhys did his best to copy what Sig presented him.

"...Like this?" It SEEMED to fit correctly. He waved it around for extra measure. "If it's not falling off, then I think I managed well!"

But he didn't know what it exactly was for, though. He waved it around, mimicking Rhys' movement.

"...Don't know how to use it." Was it a protector? It had some lever-like things at the end, perhaps they were supposed to hold something in it. Sig still wasn't sure why they needed to have this on, he could have carried things perfectly with his two arms.

Was it...some kind of new technology to catch insects????

"To be honest, neither do I." He brought a hand beneath the portal device and lifted it for closer examination. "Hmm... I saw some people use these around school. I think they're supposed to make holes in the wall that you can travel through." With that idea settled, he tried pointing it at one of the panels.

...

......

Nothing happened.

"I can't seem to figure out for the life of me how it works. Maybe I'm not willing it hard enough..."

Ah, so that was why he fell through into pudding that one time! Sig stared at the portal gun on his hand, mildly wondering if just willing it will make holes like that.

Sig stood in his spot as he scratched his head with his demonic hand.

"...Problem."

Rhys held off on trying to burn a hole in the wall with his mind for a second. "Is something the matter?"

"Are we going to be stuck." He asked in his monotonous voice. If they were...that was probably going to be a problem.

If only Sig saw it as a more dire situation... such as not being able to catch bugs.

"You mean in this room?" He gave his bleak surroundings another surveillance. "I don't think so. There's a door over there, so unless it's locked, we might be able to find a way back out." Albeit with some testing involved, apparently...

He headed toward the circular door to check if it was accessible. Upon sensing him, it opened up automatically. Rhys grinned and waved over back to Sig. "Just as I thought! Would you like to come along?"

Sig stared at the door with mild surprise. He's definitely not used to all the technology around here... He then gave a nod in response to Rhys and moved over to follow behind the other.

And thus our two heroes advanced through the circular door to attempt their test. Will they pass it with flying colors, or accomplish it with limited success? Tune in next thread to find out!
