BUDDY COP BUDDY COP

Who: Char, Samus
What: Buddy cop adventures: THE THRILLING SEQUEL. Buddy Cops vs. the Space Bees.
Where: a smidge of FDC combined with a hearty helping of Sinnoh
When: December 7/10
Warnings: He's a trash-talking fire-breathing reptile from the wrong side of the tracks. She's a deadly bounty hunting bombshell schoolteacher.

Although Char never really spoke of his Kerosene days or his former team, ever since the Aparoid War, he'd kept in touch with them. There was a tension, a forced sense of distance, still lingering between him and Aiden -- and it always would be there, he suspected -- but he remained on good terms with Adrenaline and Alkaline, the Primeape and Raichu that had once been his teammates. Although the two of them lacked fingers, they still did their best to mash their way into phone calls, emails, and incredibly unintelligible letters. One such letter had arrived only recently, accompanied by a small package.

It was a sweet gesture, really. Char had mentioned the impromptu trip to Sinnoh that had led not only to Nyx's evolution, but Green's return, and several happy celebrations some of which involved liederhosen. Although they'd never been, they'd picked up on a Sinnoh trend, their letter explained (in large, crude letters), so they'd ordered some sweet-smelling honey from Sinnoh. Apparently, trainers there were in the habit of putting it on trees, and all sorts of Pokemon went absolutely nuts over the taste of it. Aiden's merry little household had fallen in love with the stuff, and their most recent acquisition was a new extra-special royal variety that came from a secluded place near Floaroma, and that stuff was alleged to be the best honey around. They'd decided to pass a small jar onto Kerosene, to remind him of his good times in Sinnoh.

Definitely a sweet gesture. But... it wasn't that he didn't like sweet stuff, but he really didn't know what to make of it. What was a guy like him going to do with honey? For lack of any better idea, he'd eventually settled on "annoy people with it", so he slouched his merry way into the school, jar in his pocket. His original plan had been to go dump some on chairs or in textbooks or on heads, but when he happened to notice the door to Biomech's room juuuust slightly ajar, the temptation was too great to overcome. Naturally, he stuck his head into the room. "Knock knock, Biomech."

"It... messes with your head?" She gave him an incredulous look and then went back to examining the device in question, pressing buttons and prying open hatches. She had to admit, it didn't look like any technology she had seen before. Gauntlets that shot concentrated beams of energy or plasma or what have you, sure, but this was different. There was no ammunition storage from what she could see but... it stored something. A little more careful poking and prodding and it soon became clear what it was.

"...It stores Pokemon." She said flatly. Maybe it mind controlled wild Pokemon and had them do their bidding, and the glove was some kind of control. Like a puppet on strings...

It would be useful to have.

Samus eyeballed Char one more time again, certain he had not been physically harmed and then, with great reluctance, tossed the device in the river. It was clear it made him extremely uncomfortable, and if space bees were what they were dealing with, she was going to deal with them with her own way.

This guard was going for a swim too, and all it took was a simple nudge to get rid of him.

"Are you okay?" She asked Char.

"I guess so." She did not have much knowledge of Pokeballs or how they worked beyond 'they dematerialize/covert Pokemon into some kind of energy and store them', and that sometimes they come in different types. She imagined the concept wouldn't be terribly difficult to translate in a gauntlet like that provided it just keep the Pokemon separated. Oh, if not that would be kind of... awful.

But if it used fear to control them, then something like that wasn't going to sit well with her either. That was something reminiscent of SPACE PIRATE tactics and she frowned. They should press forward and find out what was happening here, get to the bottom of this gauntlet and war wasp beesiness business

They crossed the bridge and approached the cave, Samus settled into being as silent as she could with her steps as she peered in. Snow was not very conductive to silence however, and furthermore Char's flaming tail was impossible to be stealthy around. Oh well.

[identity profile] icequeen-aran.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
A few steps in, Samus noted the surroundings; the way the cave was constructed to the muddled up footprints going in and out to the lanterns hung above. It was barely enough to light the way, but her eyes would adjust to the dim lighting. Plus, there was an additional light source with her.

She wasn't sure if she wanted that though, as it readily gave away their position to anyone who might of been lurking around the next corner.

"Can't you do something about that tail?" The blonde eventually hissed.

[identity profile] icequeen-aran.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That was what she was talking about. He did it in the forest, he could conceal it a little in the cave with his wings. Ingenious for it's simplicity, but Samus still worried it might not be enough.

Regardless, they pressed onward and downward. The air became warmer and started to thicken with a sweet scent--not quite honey but something sugary. Whispers of voices, scratching and faint clanging sounds. Around a corner Samus spied a group of men. They were busying themselves with something on the floor. Samus, however, had her eyes drawn up to the ceiling.

"A war wasp hive..."

She pointed it out the fixture to Char--huge, solid, misshapen half-tubes that were grouped together in a hive, resembling something more like a retarded upside-down termite mound hanging from the ceiling. Just below a reflection of that; another hive on the ground pointing towards the ceiling. That was a bit unusual. It currently had the attention of four men, from what Samus could see. They were all wearing more of those gauntlets. All around them, wooden crates, and in the darkness she couldn't see beyond that very well. Maybe sounded like machines humming.

Or bees buzzing.

As tempting as it was to go in Rambo style, Samus felt precaution take over seeing those gauntlets around their arms and she had little doubt Char would be able to see them too. They would have to go about this delicately. She exchanged a look with Char and huddled back around their corner, out of sight and hopefully out of ear-shot.

"Let's lure them behind this maze of crates and take them out one by one.

A lure wasn't a problem and sure enough the first victim came over to inspect the light flicker. It sounded like one pair of footsteps so Samus was quick to grab him after he rounded her crate. One hand to the mouth, another at his wrist, a leg behind his knee. In the next second the back of his head hit the ground hard and he was out cold. There was not enough time for him to scream or even utter so much as a grunt.

There was, however, the tell-tale thud of him smacking the ground, and the heavy gauntlet on his arm also made a clatter.

"Did you hear that?"

"Hear what?

"Come on, get off your lazy butt." Two sets of foot steps approaching now, one to Char's side and the other towards Samus' again. When the figure rounded the corner of her crate again she repeated the same action.

However, this guy was remarkably taller than the previous and she grossly mis-estimated where to grab. His mouth turned out to be smack in the middle of his chest, and his wrist turned out to be his thigh. As strong as Samus was, this wasn't a good hold to try and flip him. He retaliated by backhanding her with that gauntlet of his.

"Who the hell are you?!"

Samus could take a hit but a metal gauntlet hit especially hard against bare skin. She reeled a step back just in time to see a burst of fire appear in front of her face, and consequently right in front of the grunt's face.

She took advantage of that and no sooner than did the flames clear was her fist smacking underneath the large man's jaw. This was going slightly less smoothly than she had hoped but it certainly could bee be worse. A follow-up punch had him down for the count. She glanced over and saw Char had taken care of his guy--a little sloppy but not bad. She couldn't say she was doing much better. Which left just one more. He was not taking any care to make his presence hidden.

"Wha..." He was greeted with his three pals eating stoney cave flooring and two intruders--a blonde and some crazy costumed kid with a really realistic looking tail...? Holy crow they took out Big Al. Fear gripped this guy and he took a step back, clearly debating whether or not to make a run for it.

He debated between that, or trying to use his gauntlet on them. That decision won out and much like before, bright rings of light came from the palm of the device, erratically aimed in the general direction of the two intruders. Nobody ever said fear was a rational, logical, decision maker. The desired effect was of course not achieved on Samus. At best, it granted her an instant-headache and certainly did not render her immobile. She did however, grip the side of her head with a groan and scowled at the guy.

"What are you doing?"

It all happened in the blink of an eye and Samus moved out of sheer instinct, only registering what was happening after she had just barely hopped out of the way of the angry dragon barreling past her, and after his maw was clamped around his arm.

She had no qualms about disposing of grunts, kicking helpless bad guy bodies into freezing waters or utilizing less-than-gentle methods of knocking someone out. ...But there was a line to be drawn between less-than-gentle and unruly and chaotic. Char's reaction, to be blunt, was that of a wild and frightened animal; unruly, chaotic and potentially dangerous. If not for the sharp, pointy, possibly-explody metal in his mouth than for the guy's poor ulna and radius. Not that she particularly cared but he'd probably whine and cry even louder and possibly wake up all the BEES.

Whatever these gauntlets did to Pokemon was going to be far beyond her personal understanding but there was no room for hesitation in his situation. First, silence the guy. He was a threat in Char's mind and she knew taking that variable out was going to better her chances of calming him down. Samus raised her gun and bounded a few steps towards the battle-locked duo.

"Hey, HEY!" Char had already done a very good job of immobilizing him so all it took was one shot to the head and he was unconscious. And since the Paralyzer was good at paralyzing, his face was frozen in an inappropriately hilarious terror. Then she threw herself at Char's side, abruptly pushing him away. "Stop it, that's enough!"

Samus rarely, if ever, flinched on a job but it was admittedly difficult not to do so when Char, in his most primal state, resembled the very same creature who had destroyed her parents and tried to take everything from her. She however, stood her ground and did not flinch despite his dangerous knee-jerk reaction. It would be a lie to say she did not also have a similar knee-jerk reaction...

Her gun was held firmly and pointed at Char and she looking at him no differently than how she had raised her gun to these cave-dwelling grunts, Frank, or anyone else she had ever raised her gun to. The moment he backed away though, she lowered her gun and was quick to holster it again. Samus let her stern gaze linger for only a second or two longer; a silent reprimand to not do it again.

Without another word, she approached the hive the four men had been gathered around, cautiously circling around it; once, twice, the third time was noticeably less cautious.

"No wasps...?" She kicked over a 1-foot start of a column, it crumbling under her boots. What now, indeed? The smell of bitter honey permeated from the hives but there was no one inside making them. At least, for the moment. Samus felt it was too early to start doubting herself--they had come so far already, and she could still hear signs of life elsewhere in the cave.

"I can hear something, it's just not here." So it was time to follow their ears, further down the cave and it wasn't long before narrow, dimly-lit cave passageways opened up to a larger cavern. Samus flattened herself against a wall and didn't bother hissing at Char for his built-in flashlight, for here was much better lit; much more busy. Machines, conveyor belts, crates and jars... a regular assembly line. The hum of machines was abundant, but the hum of insects could be distinctly picked out over the white noise.

"...a factory?"

Worst tagger that's me

Extermination happened to be one of Samus' specialties, as well as wrecking some shit up real good when she wanted to. Unfortunately for Char, she deemed to he heavily deliberating that, or the stealthy approach in this situation.

It was hard to tell. Messing things up here would certainly put a damper on their operations but she would rather confirm the kill--get that mission accomplished so she could go home feeling satisfied any and all extraterrestrial/invasive Apoidea were put in their rightful place.

In the end, Samus seemed tired of deliberating, knowing that they should at least start wrecking something--shake the proverbial tree and see what falls out. And she certainly had one nice, destructive asset on her side at the moment;

Him.

She gave him a nod and cocked her gun, hoping she could be just as clear with their silent communications.

Run in, guns blazing.

"What the hell was that?!" Such a loud and violent greeting caught any and all workers by complete surprise. Everyone stopped what they were doing and could only gawk as a Charizard and some blonde woman ran onto the main floor of their humble little illegal operation and proceed to royally ha ha fuck shit up.

The machine Char hit buckled and groaned, while Samus ran in gun--or whip, rather--blazing. It slashed through the metal like a hot knife through butter, shattering jars and catching crates on fire. Samus' little sparkly pink magical girl emergency pistol may have been non-lethal, but it could still catch flammable things on fire, and she'd use that to her advantage. Not that there wasn't already an impressive fire-starter currently present, but I digress. If she really wanted to take down this factory quickly and efficiently, she could just slap on the Power Suit and be done with it... but there was an inherent exhilaration about continuing to comically keep Char in the dark about Justin Bailey going commando, so to speak.

"Stop them!"

"What the FUCK IS GOING ON!?"

"Stop them now!"

Factory workers dropped whatever jars they may have been holding in shock (much to their partners' toe's dismay) and either ran or started to wave their gauntlets around in a frazzled frenzy. Normally one to play "tank", Samus decided to be the cover fire for Char, running in and drop kicking anyone with a gauntlet she saw and would leave it to him to take out the bigger crates, the heavier machinery and conveyor belts that crisscrossed the entire factory.

Provided he didn't loose his composure again...

This is the lamest tag.

[identity profile] icequeen-aran.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
It was a beautiful symphony of chaos. The destructive duo made their way through the factory, leaving no machine or crate undamaged. The crunch of metal, snaps of wood, shatters of glass, breaths of fire, dragon roars and gun shots rang throughout the cavernous factory. It was was fairly easy for Samus lost in the violent affair, so incredibly focused on obliterating every inch of this infernal factory and it's nonindigenious space wasp population.

Speaking of those, there would be another sound to add to the symphony of chaos; the very distinct hum of insect wings. Samus spotted the first line of defense; oddly, just a single wasp scout. Single or not, it was no less intimidating (http://images.wikia.com/metroid/images/d/d4/War_Wasp.png), bearing close to the side of a small dog, and with a stinger at least the length of it's entire body.

"Char! Wasp! Ten O'Clock!"

[identity profile] icequeen-aran.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Samus would be able to take a sting, maybe or even three but it would cripple her and make her an easy target for more. Not to mention it'd hurt like hell and that was something she could do without. Being a Charizard herself a few months ago had given her a better insight to their physiology--scales would fare much better against the wasp's weaponry than skin would, that was for certain, but this was still a dangerous situation.

The blonde shuffled closer to Char to form a back-to-back defense and then she burned herself on his tail, gun at the ready. The wasps buzzed ominously, forming a neat circle around the duo.

"They'll circle around us, try to disorientate us, and then go in for a stab." Samus warned, "Don't give them a chance, they burn very easily." True to her word, the wasps went into their attack pattern, circling around and around, almost too fast to keep an eye on. The idea was not to try. Suddenly, about five of them stopped and swooped in for a kill. Shots rang out and Samus hit her mark... five times. Apparently Samus didn't want to give Char much of a chance either, though not without reason. They shouldn't stay here.

"Cut a path through them with your fire and let's find their hive."

[identity profile] icequeen-aran.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed, they worked. Not very, well, as the wasps shuddered and abruptly changed their flight patterns amidst a flurry of buzzes, as if such a command was disruptive to their very core instinct. It was clear to see, however, that they now obliged their new metal-handed masters.

Under the control of the gauntlets, the wasps were acting in ways Samus was unfamiliar with. Their predictable attack pattern was being broken, and they were being strategically moved around Samus and Char more like chess pieces in the air. In a sense, the wasp's movements could be predictable if she could take a second to look over at the "trainers" and stare at the motions their arms were making, but alas, that was a second she simply did not have. Focus on the hive, that was the mission objective right now.

She nudged Char's back to press forward, blindly.

"Keep moving! Keep firing!"
