Dorm Log

Who: All of Smash.
What: Dorm log! Summertime special.
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus.
When: Approximately the latter half of July to the earliest of Augusts (25th - 15th)
Warnings: YOU KNOW YOURSELVES

We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Just add a thread with the room number (and date/time, if it matters) and the characters that reside there (just for reference!). You do not have to use one character's thread as a dual-purpose for both characters if you do not want to. Doesn't have to be a dorm room, either, if you have something else in mind.

And don't forget: things are getting pretty freaky! Shadow bugs are still rife around the school and city, causing all kinds of trouble, but most significantly capable of cloning people and even objects. For the remainder of July, the dimensional lines are a little blurred and causing alternate universe versions of characters to show up. But something ever curiouser has started to show up on campus... Bubbles?

Subspace bubbles? They look kinda like the ones dotting the sky... Dare ye enter?

If you do, you'll find that it... just ends up being a portal to another part of the school. Sometimes they may lead you into some part of town. Weird! Hopefully it doesn't lead you anywhere embarrassing, like in the middle of a stage play or in the bathroom of the opposite sex. That's mortifying.

7/27: Shadow bugs go wild and clone a bunch of office supplies. Do shadow bugs get bored or something? Beware of that stapler you're about to pick up... It might be a shadow bug clone! They're animate office supplies all around the school. At least it's easy to tell the difference between the real things and the animate ones, because the clones are purple. Unless, of course, your supplies are all purple. Then you're in a bind...er.

Also, they cloned the Kraken fountain and now it's come to life. Hope you brought some slippers.

8/1: You know those hazy purple-black pockets of subspace that keep showing up across the sky? Today, a humongous one swallowed up the sun completely. For almost all of the daylight hours, there will be a full-on solar eclipse. Aww, were you working on that golden tan? Too bad, buddy. You're gonna have to wait until tomorrow.

8/5: A herd of Towtow show up at the school overnight and stop to rest. They'll be there, napping all day with that peaceful look adorned on their faces. How cute! But you wouldn't want to see them angry... Maybe that's why you should be careful not to wake them up.

"Yeah, zombies. They're pretty fuckin' awesome and this series is particularly good at them shits. Well, barrin' some of the new crap but overall their games are fuckin' good." Kitty stated before turning to look at Hilda.

"Oh, no, well maybe haha" Kitty grinned, shaking her head. "Depending of how you look at it, it technically is about taking killer pictures. Or more like, trying to survive a haunted area full of angered spirits while trying to search for x person who's dear to you armed only with a special picture frame that you have to hover in front of you and try to frame said spirits in order to protect yourself."

"No way..." Color her impressed! She set the other games aside with the rest of them and diverted all her interest to what Kitty was talking about. "Dude, that sounds radical." How did it work? Was there a reason it was a picture frame? Why didn't any other games she knew do crazy stuff like that, anyway!?

"Wanna start with that one?" She asked, gesturing towards the killer pictures one.

Charlise could be seen actually smiling a little, maybe even a bit sheepish but she shrugged that off and grinned.

"Ain't it? It's pretty fuckin' awesome. And sure, you can have a crack at it first since it's single player." As was most of everything Kitty played, you know, antisocial and all that.

"Fair--" should she warn her that the game is full of fucking scary scenes and lots of jump scares? ... Naw!

"Have fun! I'll be rooting fer ya." she grinned mischievously.

OH, NO... She did not catch on at all. This was going to be a disaster. She turned the appropriate system on and put in the disc, sitting herself down in front of the television with the confidence of a pro.

Things were looking good when the game started and through the opening scene, and the spooky old mansion on a dark and stormy night wasn't freaking her out yet. She knew what she was doing! Uh, sort of, after a minute of spinning the character around in circles. Things continued to go well for about ten minutes, when the character started looking around a room in the house. Lightning flashed outside the windows and when the thunder followed, she noticed a painting on the wall had disappeared. Hilda yelped at the discovery, "Wh-where'd it go...?"

Kitty... oddly enough was pleasantly amused by the idle running around that Hilda began with. Normally she'd be rolling her eyes, sighing and grunting at the level of noobness, maybe even stand up and leave. But for Hilda it was... nice. Like an innocent pup finding a new toy and running circles around it and barking at it before bothering to testing it out.

She didn't mind that at all and just sat there, snickering every now and then or telling her the wrong ways to go only to smile and quip something along the lines of 'whoops, guess that was the wrong way.'

That's pretty much it. Confident like an old dog performing an old trick, but a tiny yappy puppy in practice.

She followed Kitty's directions without question, which in turn exposed her to all the jump scares that harassed the player for wasting too much time. She heard a noise and turned the character around just in time for a shadowy ghost to scream, the controller vibrated, and Hilda let out an awkward "WAUGH" when she dropped the controller.

Charlise burst out laughing, good natured as a laugh at a companion's unfortunate mishap could be. "You okay there Hilds? I think that ghost was just trying to say hello. Just very very adamantly." she chuckled.

"U-uh," She stammered, "Yeah, no, I got this. I just, y'know..." She trailed off and paused for a second to pick the controller back up. "That stuff where they jump out at you always gets me."

Kitty grinned,"Yeah, that seems ta be a new trend in horror games and shit nowadays." Honestly, you couldn't pick up most of the new ones without it having pronounced use of jump scares.

"Yer gonna continue or is it time fer ya ta call it quits?" Charlise teased.

Hilda was not keeping up with what the hip cats of the genre were doing. This was all new to her.

"I'm good," She lied and continued on with the game. No WAY was she jumpy, not one bit (she was very jumpy).

"Of course you are." Kitty quipped, a small smile on her face.

"Don't worry, if you get too scared, I'm here." Whether that was to laugh at her or comfort her remained to be seen.
