Dorm Log

[raw_angel_power]

Who: All of Smash.
What: Dorm log! Summertime special.
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus.
When: Approximately the latter half of July to the earliest of Augusts (25th - 15th)
Warnings: YOU KNOW YOURSELVES

We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Just add a thread with the room number (and date/time, if it matters) and the characters that reside there (just for reference!). You do not have to use one character's thread as a dual-purpose for both characters if you do not want to. Doesn't have to be a dorm room, either, if you have something else in mind.

And don't forget: things are getting pretty freaky! Shadow bugs are still rife around the school and city, causing all kinds of trouble, but most significantly capable of cloning people and even objects. For the remainder of July, the dimensional lines are a little blurred and causing alternate universe versions of characters to show up. But something ever curiouser has started to show up on campus... Bubbles?

Subspace bubbles? They look kinda like the ones dotting the sky... Dare ye enter?

If you do, you'll find that it... just ends up being a portal to another part of the school. Sometimes they may lead you into some part of town. Weird! Hopefully it doesn't lead you anywhere embarrassing, like in the middle of a stage play or in the bathroom of the opposite sex. That's mortifying.

7/27: Shadow bugs go wild and clone a bunch of office supplies. Do shadow bugs get bored or something? Beware of that stapler you're about to pick up... It might be a shadow bug clone! They're animate office supplies all around the school. At least it's easy to tell the difference between the real things and the animate ones, because the clones are purple. Unless, of course, your supplies are all purple. Then you're in a bind...er.

Also, they cloned the Kraken fountain and now it's come to life. Hope you brought some slippers.

8/1: You know those hazy purple-black pockets of subspace that keep showing up across the sky? Today, a humongous one swallowed up the sun completely. For almost all of the daylight hours, there will be a full-on solar eclipse. Aww, were you working on that golden tan? Too bad, buddy. You're gonna have to wait until tomorrow.

8/5: A herd of Towtow show up at the school overnight and stop to rest. They'll be there, napping all day with that peaceful look adorned on their faces. How cute! But you wouldn't want to see them angry... Maybe that's why you should be careful not to wake them up.

"You've-a got that right," Mario said, "I've been hittin' the books ever since I got here and I'm still not done in the library." Maybe he should have talked the hand into letting him be the plumber... The job kind of took him by surprise.

He hasn't read about President Pokemon yet, but somewhere in the universe Japanese warlords TOTALLY used Pokemon/a> to fight each other and unify Japan.

"Yeah, I'll bet."

Joel had seen the Library.

It was... very large. Lots of books.

"Still. 'Least you got the Internet for quick study purposes. Wikipedia and Google."

[provolone_ranger]

"Oh, yeah, the web's-a great! I ain't much of a computer guy besides that." He could type! That was... It. "Hey, you need help with anything else around here?"

[golonghorns]

"Yeah. We're on the same page with that one. It's good for looking up buildin' codes for specific counties and I've used it to print off plans for class projects. But I ain't one of those folks spends a lot of time on the internet."

He didn't understand how some people seemed to spend every waking moment messing around on the web. Go outside, geeze!

"You know, I think I'm pretty much done for the day. Appreciate the offer, though. I need anything around the place, I'll be sure to look you up, man."

YEAH, go outside sometimes, kids! Dr. Mario agreed, "You got it."

He checked the clock up on the wall and oh man, was that the time? "I gotta get going. It was nice meetin' you, Joel." Uh... Wait, hold on. "...Was that clock always purple?"

"Purple?"

Joel turned to look at the clock.

"Nope. I mean, I didn't ever specifically check to see if it was? But I'm... pretty sure it was just a regular white wall clock. And that's a mighty familiar shade of purple."

Joel reached into the back of his pants where he had a gun concealed in his belt, covered discretely by his plaid, flannel shirt.

"Flamethrower would probably be better, but I'll work with what I got." he said, starting to aim his gun at the clock. He was going to shoot it. Shoot it dead.

"I was afraid'a that," Mario said as he checked his pockets for some weird flowers or, uh, something that would help. "I think I got a-- whoa!"

Yikes, leave a guy alone for a second and he pulls a gun out of his pants! Uh, surprise... Man, all Mario had was half a mushroom in his pockets, so he chose his hammer. Where did it even come from? Nobody knows for certain.

"Where'd you...?"

No. You know what? It didn't matter right now.

"You smack it off the wall and I'll shoot it once we get it outside?"

TEAMWORK.

The world must never know. Teamwork, however, was something Mario knew well! ...Sometimes.

"Okey-dokey," He said with what may have been a disturbing amount of enthusiasm (because it was 'any'). Mario jumped up to make eye contact with the clock's doppelganger and used his hammer to knock it off the wall. With another whack or two he started trying to chase it into the nearest exit.

Guy was good with an oversized hammer, Joel had to admit.

The clock started to roll down the hall, trying to get away from the little Plumberman.

"Mario, dodge to your left!" Joel called, starting to aim up a shot.

Mario glanced over his shoulder and oh, yeah, Joel was totally pointing a gun in his direction. Did... He have a mushroom. No. Maybe it was time to listen and get out of the way, then.

"You got it!" Mario said as he dove to the left.

Joel's revolver wasn't his most powerful weapon, but it was his favorite. He tended to take it with him everywhere. It had enough bite and kick to it that most Humans and small enemies could be taken out with a few well placed shots.

The clock was a tricky target, but Joel had plenty of practice under his belt.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

The clock splintered into purple pieces. Some of which started to writhe around in a grape hued imitation of Salvador Dali's fondest nightmares.

"Want to finish it off with your hammer?"

NOOOOOOOO gmail hid this one from me...

Whoa! Good aim! He almost clapped but he thought better of it, and approached the clock in its death throes instead.

"You bet," Mario cheered and brought his hammer down on the shadow clock with a nice, solid THWACK. "Hey, nice-a shooting."

CURSE YOU, G MAIL!

"Thanks." Joel said, pocketing the revolver and watching Mario smoosh the remains of the clock into grape jelly. "In my world, you learn to shoot real quick."

Man. Look at that gunk!

"You're pretty good with that hammer, too."

Gross... Mario made a motion to brush some of the goop off of his hammer, but nah, even with gloves on he wasn't gonna touch that stuff.

"Oh, yeah? Where you from, if you don't mind me asking?"

[golonghorns]

"Texas, originally." Joel replied. "About twenty years ago, my world got overrun with a fungal infection that turns folks into flesh eating monsters."

He was getting more and more used to just kind of putting that out there.

He fiddled with the handle of the gun and shrugged.

"It's been a long while since I was a carpenter, tell you the truth."

"Is that so...?" Yikes, he wasn't expecting Joel to drop something like that on him so casually. Maybe he'd just keep the Mushroom Kingdom to himself for a little while... "Well, it looks like you're still doin' a good job to me. Uh, all things a-considered."

[golonghorns]

"Thanks." Joel replied.

"What about you? The accent sounds Italian."

[provolone_ranger]

Mario opened his mouth, then he closed it. Well, rats. Did he really have a reason to lie to this guy, though? Besides maybe him thinking Mario was a flesh-eating monster?

"The Mushroom Kingdom," Mario said like he wasn't joking.

[golonghorns]

"That's... never heard of Italy being called the Mushroom Kingdom." Joel replied. "I mean, I like mushroom on my pizza as much as the next guy. But I figured there were other things the place was better known for."

Once he realizes the context of Mario's answer, he's going to feel incredibly dumb.

[provolone_ranger]

"Uh," Mario started and scratched his head. "It ain't Italy."

[golonghorns]

"....alright. So, where is it?"

[provolone_ranger]

"I dunno how all these places from all over match up," He admitted, "It don't surprise me that you haven't heard of it."

How do you... "I guess it's, ah... Part of a different world? I don't even think many of the folks living there have even heard of Italy."

[golonghorns]

"Really? No kiddin'?" Joel replied, looking a little sheepish. "I mean... You're a Human Being and all. I guess I just figured you must be from Earth. If not mine, then somethin' like it."

He knew so many Japanese people, now. He also had not spoken really in-depth with any Humans from crazy fantasy worlds.

[provolone_ranger]

"It's-a pretty much like Earth, I think, just a little different. Lotta... Uh... I guess you'd call 'em talking animals?"

Mario scratched his head as he tried to think of how to explain things without sounding like a crazy person.
