Dorm Log

Who: All of Smash.
What: Dorm log! Summertime special.
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus.
When: Approximately the latter half of July to the earliest of Augusts (25th - 15th)
Warnings: YOU KNOW YOURSELVES

We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Just add a thread with the room number (and date/time, if it matters) and the characters that reside there (just for reference!). You do not have to use one character's thread as a dual-purpose for both characters if you do not want to. Doesn't have to be a dorm room, either, if you have something else in mind.

And don't forget: things are getting pretty freaky! Shadow bugs are still rife around the school and city, causing all kinds of trouble, but most significantly capable of cloning people and even objects. For the remainder of July, the dimensional lines are a little blurred and causing alternate universe versions of characters to show up. But something ever curiouser has started to show up on campus... Bubbles?

Subspace bubbles? They look kinda like the ones dotting the sky... Dare ye enter?

If you do, you'll find that it... just ends up being a portal to another part of the school. Sometimes they may lead you into some part of town. Weird! Hopefully it doesn't lead you anywhere embarrassing, like in the middle of a stage play or in the bathroom of the opposite sex. That's mortifying.

-------
7/27: Shadow bugs go wild and clone a bunch of office supplies. Do shadow bugs get bored or something? Beware of that stapler you're about to pick up... It might be a shadow bug clone! They're animate office supplies all around the school. At least it's easy to tell the difference between the real things and the animate ones, because the clones are purple. Unless, of course, your supplies are all purple. Then you're in a bind...er.

Also, they cloned the Kraken fountain and now it's come to life. Hope you brought some slippers.

8/1: You know those hazy purple-black pockets of subspace that keep showing up across the sky? Today, a humongous one swallowed up the sun completely. For almost all of the daylight hours, there will be a full-on solar eclipse. Aww, were you working on that golden tan? Too bad, buddy. You're gonna have to wait until tomorrow.

8/5: A herd of Towtow show up at the school overnight and stop to rest. They'll be there, napping all day with that peaceful look adorned on their faces. How cute! But you wouldn't want to see them angry... Maybe that's why you should be careful not to wake them up.

For reference, here are the rooming arrangements.

It was a small voice. A feminine voice. But it wasn't yelling or sneering. He chewed on his lip and tried to focus on the words through the folds of his comforter.

If she'd scared him, she'd go? That didn't sound like the same ghost. That didn't sound remotely scary.

....and that pie smell.

"Wait!" he said, peering out again, this time with his flashlight. The beam swept the room quickly, finally finding Alorah. And Sonny Moe's relief was palpable.

"I'm so sorry! I thought you were... someone else." he offered lamely.

Alorah winced when the flashlight beam hit her face, but it was a very welcome relief when Sonny Moe relaxed. Just a misunderstanding, then. Though... it was a little strange. Someone else?

It might have just been her, but she was starting to suspect that his hand hadn't gotten injured in an accident.

She took a few steps forward, holding the pie out to him.

"Um... I saw your hand was hurt, so I thought, um... well, I thought a treat might make you feel a little better. If you're not hungry, then that's fine."

"Oh, I'm always hungry." Sonny said, pulling back the covers and shining his flashlight on the boxes of cookies he'd been eating out of.

"Thanks a lot for the pie! That's really super nice of you, Alorah. I could kind of use a pick-me-up today! It's weird how the sun won't come out, huh?"

He managed a smile, even though she might not be able to see it in the dark. "Now that someone else is here, probably we should turn on the light, huh?"

"Oh, I don't mind either way," she replied, docile as always. And it was true -- fear of the dark had never been a problem for her, and if Sonny felt better cozy under the blankets with a flashlight, that was just fine.

"...I do miss the sun, though." What grass-type wouldn't, though? Alorah set the pie down in front of Sonny Moe and sat down next to him. "But how have you been? Has everything been okay?"

Even if she didn't mind the dark, Sonny thought it might be a little nicer if they could see one another. He popped the flashlight in his mouth and turned on his bed side lamp. The shade was a nice warm color so it cast the room in a fairly rosy glow. Much more cheerful.

"There!" he said once he'd taken the flashlight out of his mouth and turned it off. "Now we can see a little better! Um... I've been OK? Kind of? I mean, mostly things are OK. But I met a ghost in the halls the other day." He shuddered. "She looked like a little girl and I tried to give her some candy and offered to help her find her dorm and stuff? But instead she stabbed me. That's why my hand is bundled up."

He opened a desk drawer and pulled out a couple of clean forks. "Would you like to share some pie?"
docilehearted: (Surprise)

[personal profile] docilehearted 2014-08-04 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well... why not? With no sunlight to speak of, it wasn't like she'd been doing much photosynthesizing, so she was kind of peckish. "I'd love to! It's very sweet of you to share."

Especially since it sounded like Sonny'd really had an awful scare. Alorah knew that there were some ghost Pokemon at the school, but a little girl...? "That whole encounter sounds like an awful experience! You were only trying to be nice, and then something that horrible happened... it doesn't still hurt, does it? You poor thing."
punchtheflute: (Human - smile)

"It does still hurt! I couldn't find Rhys at the school, so, I went to the emergency room in the city. They put some stitches and stuff because it was kind of deep." he replied, holding the pie in between them so she could eat too. "Just, if you see a little girl wearing pink wandering around in the halls? Try not to get too close to her, OK? She always has her eyes closed. And she could turn into a bunch of little tiny versions of herself and throw things at you, too!"

Which was almost scarier than the knife part. Almost.

"But anyway, enough talking about ghosts! How have you been? Have you been OK with all the weird stuff going on at school?" Hopefully no Shadow Clones of Gold had showed up to give her a hard time!

[personal profile] docilehearted 2014-08-04 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
That was certainly the kind of person that'd be hard to miss, from the sounds of it. Tiny versions of herself? Alorah definitely couldn't think of anyone she knew who fit that description offhand, but it was a big school, and anything was possible, right?

"I've been just fine! I might not look it, but I'm quick, so those awful shadow things can't catch me most of the time." Of course, not being able to leave the city or get in touch with Gold back in Johto was a bit of a problem, but it was better that he be safe back at home than here where all this fishy business was happening. "I just hope things don't get any worse!"
punchtheflute: (Human - cheesy grins)

[personal profile] punchtheflute 2014-08-04 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm! This is really good pie!" Sonny said, covering his mouth with his hand so she couldn't see him chewing.

"I'm glad you're able to stay safe! Most of the monsters are just little and annoying. I try to help people with them as much as I can. I should give you my cell phone number so if you ever wind up not actually being able to get away, you could let me know and I could come and help you out!"

Sonny, likewise, wasn't able to get in contact with Pallet town. But he knew that a lot of his team was there with Red's Mom, not to mention all the Pokémon at Oak's Lab. Pallet town was in good hands, talons, vines, claws, flippers, goo... limbs.

Alorah's face lit up with a delighted smile once her baking endeavours earned the official Smoe Stamp of Approval. There was always that bit of anticipation until the first bite happened -- you never could be sure if you'd left eggshells in the pastry or something, right?

Now that Sonny Moe had dug in, she let herself try a forkful. (Hm, not bad!) Once her mouth was no longer ful -- always be ladylike, after all -- she smiled and nodded. "Oh, would you? I'd feel so much better if I had a friend I could call. I might not be very good at fighting, but I could help you out too, if you wanted! For instance, I... oh! Why didn't I think of it sooner? It's not as good as a Heal Pulse or anything, but I can heal a little bit."

She hadn't really used Grassy Terrain much since she'd learned it, so it had slipped her mind, but she ought to have mentioned that right from the get-go!

Sonny would have eaten the eggshell. It's just extra calcium! Important for bones and teeth, you know!

"Oh! You have a healing move?" Sonny asked, surprised. Red's team was kind of short on healing moves, especially since Rest was no longer in his battle repertoire.

"If you think you could do something for it, I'd be really, really grateful!"

[personal profile] docilehearted 2014-08-16 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it wasn't much, but it would definitely be better than nothing. "It might look a little odd, but I promise that the grass won't wreck your floor or anything. It goes away after a while."

With that little bit of reassurance, Alorah closed her eyes. The quiet little hum of life inside her pushed itself into a crescendo, reaching out for even the tiniest little whisper of greenery. It took her a moment to build up enough oomph to pull it off, but once she did, the effect was startlingly quick: a lush green carpet of grass sprang up around them, releasing life-giving energy like Leech Seeds rooted to the earth itself.

Grassy Terrain wasn't as discriminate as some other healing moves: anything that touched the ground would feel its life-giving effects, which made it far more temporary and weak than something like Aqua Ring or Softboiled. But this, at least, was something Alorah could do for Sonny.

"Oooh! Wow, Alorah!"

He'd never seen this move, or any of the terrain changing moves that were coming into vogue recently. The drawbacks of not having your trainer around, probably.

"I had no idea that a move like this even existed!" he said, running a hand gently over the blades, almost as though he was afraid to bruise them. Hey, he'd lay down and snooze on anyone's lawn, but this was the first time anyone had grown a lawn especially for his benefit. He was touched.

He grinned broadly at her. "Hey, thank you so, so much!! I actually feel better already! It's really revitalizing - I bet Vinnie would love to see this move some day, too!"
