Dance Club - First Meeting!

Shantae was starting to wonder about this club idea. There was no dance class currently at Smash Academy, and while she could practice her moves at the studio, she admittedly wanted more of a chance to use her skills. And seeing as there were no monsters needing thrashing, and no dance parlors to work in, a dance club seemed like a good way to do that. She was an expert when it came to belly dancing, that much was true, but she did dabble in other styles. As a result, she did a lot of research into other common dance styles, collecting music and teaching herself what she could to help organize things. She felt fairly confident she could pull it off, but she had never taught or instructed dancing before. And it made her a little nervous to think about. But if there was one thing she did well, it was swallow her own anxieties and just get things done. And that's precisely what she did.

When everyone who had signed up was there, Shantae began the introductions. "Well, glad you all made it. So this is our first dance club meeting! The main thing we want to do here is just have fun, learn some new steps, and practice the ones we already know! So what I want to do first is just go around the room and have everyone introduce themselves, and just mention any dancing experience you have. I'll start."

"I'm Shantae, and I'm from Scuttle Town. I'm a professional belly dancer and I've been doing it for years now!"

Sonny was here. He was snacking, but he was here. (He also didn't sign up. He just kind of arrived. That was OK right?)

"Hi! My name is Sonny Moe. I come from Kanto and I am Red's Snorlax! I've never danced before but I think it should be lots of fun and I would like to learn!"

"And I'm Red's Charizard, Sasha! I've danced a bit with Nabooru's classes, but I wanna get better at it! I'm here to dance all night long!"

Alorah looked kind of nervous about being here.

"Um, I'm just here to watch. I promise I won't get in anyone's way."

Sonny grinned at his sister and waved to the softly spoken girl with the white hair.

"Hi Sasha! Hi... you!" he said, being that he had no clue what she was called. "I don't think you would be in anyone's way! Everyone just wants to learn so it's OK!"

Shantae smiled at the assortment of attendees. But Alorah's shyness just would not do. She reached over and ruffled the girl's hair. "Exactly right. We're all here to have fun and learn, so you won't be in anyone's way!" she tried to reassure her.

"Alorah," she offered to Sonny Moe, in an even quieter voice than usual. Here she was, getting so flustered that she was forgetting her manners. Of course an introduction should have come first!

She appreciated how nice Sonny and Shantae were being, though. She managed a smile in spite of her nervousness.

"I'm sure you'll all do great. I can't wait to see everyone dance."

"I'm certain your audience will provide nothing but greater energy and insight to our meeting!"

A slight bout of nerves had kept Hajime from introducing himself earlier, but seeing the other students encourage Alorah had boosted his enthusiasm greatly. If he was among such enthused students, surely he'd come to the right place.

"My name is Hajime Tanaka. I've only performed cheering routines before, but I wish to learn from the myriad perspectives and rhythms presented by this varied and welcoming gathering!"

"It's really nice to meet you, Alorah!" said Sonny, giving her another wave being that he could greet her with a name now. He also waved at Hajime, because he didn't know him. "Hi, Hajime!"

"I'm Francine," she offered into the conversation, waiting to get some idea of the personalities in the room before speaking. "I'm a fan of more classical styles of dance and have dabbled with them in the past, but I haven't taken them up as a hobby or a profession."

There seems to be a barrel in the corner of the room. A prop moved in from the stadium, maybe?

Pay it no mind.

Huh... What was that barrel doing there? Well, the dance studio wasn't being used for classes, perhaps someone was using it for storage. She tried to pay it no mind.

And what a barrel it is! Sturdy, well-made, high-quality wood, clearly a fine specimen of crate and transport. Seeing as it is a barrel, surely it will have no issue with being sat on while Hajime catches his breath.

[Where did that tiny, nervous sound come from? It is a mystery.]

Brown was no dancer and he had no interest in learning, but the guy sneaks in and out of classes as he pleases that it was nothing for him to take a look at Shantae's class. He had saw her post over the network, and figured why not be familiar face and pop in; maybe have a little chat with her or two between or after the class.

He had nothing to feel ashamed about entering a dance class, why would he? It's not like it was the most embarrassing thing. Mark, a friend back home, did breakdancing. It wasn't his scene but he could dig it. So him peeking through the door was purely out of habit than any some sort of bashfulness.

If he had just come in like a normal person, she might have noticed him sooner. But creeping on them through the half open door meant that she didn't realize he was there right away. She just kept right on with the introductions, trying to get a sense of where the attendees were in terms of skill level.

And for awhile, Brown kept within his place behind the door. Until he decided that, oh fuck this and suck it up, he was going inside and putting on his most upbeat face.

"Heyya Shan!" Brown greeted, probably without thinking beforehand that there were at least a few students who wanted to study and not have some idiot marching in like he owns the place.

Luckily it was a free moment, and Shantae was able to go and greet him. "Hey, Brown! Come to dance?" she asked, since he hadn't bothered to sign up on her sheet.

"Nah, just droppin' by," he said though secretly relieved that he came in on a good timing, for once. "Heard over the network 'bout the class, so I thought I'd swing by."

Though in the corner of his eye, he noticed a barrel. Now, he hardly go to this particular part of the school, but the barrel looked rather out of place.

"Huh."

"It's not really a class, more like a club," she explained. "I've never really taught anyone before, so it's new for me too! But if you want to sit in, it's okay. Maybe eventually you'll want to join in."

Her eyes followed his gaze. "What's wrong?"

"'s it me or that barrel kinda looks out off place?" He pointed to the offending item.

"Dunno about you, but the barrel's kinda," he tried to explain as he snapped his fingers. "just seems odd t'be here."

Shantae shrugged. "Probably someone just forgot it here," she said. "They use barrels like that in the stadium all the time, I think. No big deal."

Latest of the Late

Lucca shuffles in last of all, muttering a quick and clumsy sorry sorry I'm late, making a hell of a lot of noise and setting her bag down in the corner. When she hears introductions going around she perks up.

"Oh! Yeah. Hi. I'm Lucca. I, uh, don't have much dance experience at all." She confesses with a chuckle.

"No problem," Shantae replied, greeting her friend. "I can fix that soon enough! Glad you made it!"

"Oh, uh." She adds, looking around at the lack of practice going on. "Are we gonna start tonight, or just set things up for the club?"

She was eager, that much can be said.

"We'll start for real next time. Right now I just want to check everyone out, see what kind of skill levels we're dealing with," she explained. "We CAN start tonight if you want though!"
