YOU DIDN'T THINK I FORGOT, DID YOU
Who: Everyone ever. It's mandatory or you're banned for two minutes.
What: Fireworks are a little late this year...
When: The night of July 14th
Where: Campus, generally. But you can see them out in the city.
Warnings: Colours and explosions and probably dumb kissy stuff somewhere in here.
It was usually the evening of the second of third; a tradition that began five years prior due to some silly boyish dare, that continued for the sake of sentimentality and tradition. Even if the culprit no longer attended Smash Academy, he made sure his legacy lived on each July.
This year it was a little late, because strange robots were patrolling the city and were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But that didn't stop the mission from being fulfilled! Just... delayed. It was probably for the best, since loud noises and bright lights wouldn't have been well received by the more feral-minded creatures during the whole bake sale debacle. In a way it was a pretty convenient setback.
Anyway, when the night finally came for the tradition to continue, it started... with a bang. Duh.
There was no small smattering of tester rockets to ease into the display. Just a sudden burst of red and white in the sky, Smash Academy's emblem glowing brighter than the stars for a few seconds before petering out. After that it was just burst after burst of an assortment of colours and shapes, each its own unique size and brightness, the resounding explosions echoing throughout the campus like gunshots.
Good thing nobody at all would be trying to sleep, right?

He had expected to have been able to avoid her until Caim arranged the meeting, which would have given him plenty of time to prepare, but this surprise face-to-face encounter caught him off guard. How much did she know about the arrangement? Probably more than enough. It wasn't like Caim would have set that up without her knowledge or consent, right?
"Wait. You are Furiae, aren't you?"
Like he even needed her to answer. He was just stalling while he thought over his options. She was breaking curfew... But it would probably be proper to spend some kind of time with her, right? Ugh. School could prepare him for all the complex equations and useless knowledge he'd never have any use for outside of placement exams but when it came to preparations for real life, nothing he'd studied did him any good. He hated having to be so far outside his comfort zone.
Oh well, here went nothing.
"We're going to find whoever's setting these off and put a stop to it!"
Was that an invitation or an order?

But as she peered at him through the dark, another light, timid and blue, barely grazing his features from where he stood to help, there was nothing that really stood out about the male at all.
Except his words, apparently, which continued to catch her off-guard. Furiae stared at him, not quite knowing how to interpret what he said. "We?"
He was alone, and he couldn't have possibly meant herself, and it didn't really register with her that he did. Of course not - not her, in her nightgown, shawl and slippers, the woman that he had just told off for being out of her room. There must have been somebody else around he was referring to, more likely so, and then she could slip off back to bed.

"That's right! The two of us!"
Now that he thought about it, he'd heard somewhere that bossing people around from the get-go apparently didn't lend itself well to breaking the ice. It was just automatic for him (and probably the reason he'd grown up so lonely, on reflection) that he hadn't even considered a different tactic.
"That is... it will be easier to stop whoever is behind this in numbers...!"
No, wait, shoot. Too late to backpedal. He'd blown it already and Caim would find out by morning, probably. What the hell was he thinking? How could he approach it in a way that wasn't just business as usual?
"...And they will look much nicer outdoors! If you were wanting to see them, there's no better opportunity! I will even give you a pardon for being out of your dorm, since we'll have a valid reason."

Even without Ishimaru's eyebrows put into the equation though, it was all absurd to hear. That he wanted her to follow him - why? For what reason? Did he expect her to be somehow an amazing help there in her nightgown, or was it something else? She almost thought he might've been nervous to go out looking for troublemakers himself, but she wasn't sure if that was it or not.
"I don't know how I may help you," she answered, moving two totally stealthy steps back towards the stairs leading up than the doors leading out, "There are people more suited for what you ask of me than myself, such as the school staff... I am only a student..."

Automatic again. There came the crackling noise of a few low-flying white sparklers adding to the light show. Kiyotaka glanced out the window again, wishing he could just crawl into a hole already. This was not going as planned and he was just wasting time, ruining his shot at Caim's offer (a subconscious urge to sabotage it? Maybe.) and his shot at catching whatever prankster set this all up in the first place. Worst of all, it was just rubbing his own lack of social grace right in his face and he knew it.
"Apart from that, I... want to speak with you! So let's talk!"

The popping of the fireworks still caused her to flinch, but she was better recognising the soft sound that could be heard before the bangs - sometimes, that was. She tried to not let them distract her too much as she kept still in her spot, for out of the two unusual things that night, the person before her was of more concern - and possible danger - than what seemed to only be so far a light show.
"Who are you?"
Look at her stand in place and not believe two people have to go outside to speak.

OUCH... Well, at least that gave him a much better idea of where he should be coming from. Square one.
"Right! Of course! My name is Kiyotaka Ishimaru! The head of the disciplinary committee! We were in ethics class together! I... have spoken to your brother regarding you..."
no subject
And then it came to her - Caim's entry on the network. The name Kiyotaka Ishimaru. He had been one of the first to respond to him; Furiae had seen his name there, as well as the others that had spoken up.
Her lips lined and her eyebrows lowered, a stern look crossing her face. He was really going to go through with this, that brother of hers - but of course he was. Of course. That was how Caim was.
"...My brother wishes for you to court me. He wants you to make me your bride."
Furiae kept her hands on the shawl arond her, feeling her grip more against the fabric as she heard herself speak, flatly and as direct as she could.
"Do you understand?"
no subject
Well, that was a huge relief. That meant he didn't have to explain it himself.
"That is exactly why we should talk!"
no subject
He understood then - and wished to talk about it. Well, if that was why Kiyotaka Ishimaru believed they should talk...
"No... there is no need. I will not marry you."
Furiae turned from him again, facing him after she did so. She would go nowhere with this person if he wished to discuss marriage. Absolutely not.
"I am sorry my brother has wasted your time."
This lady? Going to start heading for those stairs now. Bye. Bye. Go and find those troublemakers by yourself (called Chiyo and Mondo).

It wasn't supposed to be like this! He'd blown it all so soon? He took a few steps after her, calling again, but his words were drowned out by another explosion.
