I'll be there for you

Who: EV ERY ONE
What: Graduation. Prom.
When: The evening of May 31st.
Where: The Stadium.
Warnings: WHO KNOWS

One might find the stadium a little hot and humid for those used to a spring graduation ceremony. This fine evening the Academy is experiencing its first hints of summer, a warm breeze providing relief to those who would sit on the stadium floor, which had been rearranged into a platform overlooking neat rows of chairs meant to seat the gathered crowd of faculty and students. Towards the other end of the complex was the arrangement for the prom that was to follow. Food and drink, chairs and tables, each with a floral centerpiece, and, of course, a dance floor.

title or description

Before everyone could get their party on, however, there was the main event of the evening. From his place at the podium, Master Hand watched students and staff alike find their way into the stadium. With the recent robot shenanigans, there seemed to be tensions in need of dispelling. If the Headmaster knew one thing, however, it was that some silly city antics were not going to ruin this esteemed event. Not tonight. Not if he could help it.

HEY DUDES! Here's how stuff is going to work. We kick off the log with GRADUATION. This part of the log will be divided into separate threads. I'll post them all at once, so feel free to hop around, mingle, post whenever, wherever.

HOWEVER, once the PROM starts, it will be up to you guys to post your own threads. Please check out last year's log if you'd like an idea of how this works. Everything after the thread titled "DISMISSAL" (I will post that in a bit, so don't post prom threads until I have that up!) will be considered prom, though don't let that stop you from continuing to post in the graduation section.

Please label all your threads appropriately! (Examples: "SHENANIGANS AT THE FOOD TABLE", "DANCE-OFF", "THE PUNCH IS SPIKED", "BOTHER X" In general, a location + what is going on in the thread is the way to go. Obviously, more than one thread can take place at the same location.

Linking back and forth when and if you thread hop is very much appreciated. If things start to look a bit laggy, we'll bump to the next page. Most importantly, HAVE FUN, and let a mod know about any problems or concerns you might have!

This is a final fantasy 8 moment, if you catch my drift. Sorta

"Fffff....fuck?" she repeated, wondering what it meant. NOT, because she at least knows profanity.

It seemed tonight would be a night of a lot of silent staring. Chiyo once again tilted her head to the side, wondering if the frantic Mondo in front of her was what she appeared to be like when she would get highly flustered by others. Except without the curses, of course. The thought amused her, so she chuckled.

How cute.

"Of course I'd like to dance with a guy like you. Why not?" she said and without waiting for an answer, she gently took ahold of whichever hand she was able to pry off himself and led him onto the dance floor to a spot less populated, as it seemed best to avoid placing him under any more anxiety with the presence of others. And if he was compliant or didn't struggle too much, she'd guide his hands to where they needed to go and prepare him for a dance.

"Just relax. It'll all be okay," she'd say if things worked out well enough and Mondo was still, in fact, there and not out a window.

The reference has drifted away from me, alas

Why he hadn't exploded into tiny little popcorn Mondo bits by now, we'll never know. But Mondo was soldiering on, his lips taut thin as his face continued to flare a rosy hue, and for the life of him he couldn't stare at this really really cute girl who actually liked him without feeling the heat swelter enough to fog up his mind completely.

If he backed down now, that would be the cowardly thing to do. Why should he be nervous? He'd secured her, she made it clear she wanted to be around him, and damn it, he wanted to be around her! He had no idea who she was, but he wanted to be around her more than anyone else right now! He'd already slipped and admitted that too quickly and he hated how desperate he'd sounded back there. It didn't suit a man like him.

...Unfortunately, he found himself fumbling for the first move of the dance because didn't have a single shred of an idea how to do this kind of thing. So, he... attempted. Awkwardly. With a side step. Damn, it looked way easier than it was in practice... He wanted to shrivel up and die all over again. Maybe he'd save some face if he just confessed it outright.

"I ain't ever done this type of dancin' before," he mumbled. "Just so you know."

"It's nothing to fret about, Mondo. We all have to learn sometime, don't we?" She smiled, not at all bothered by his fumble but rather entertained. For a moment, she looked away to the others dancing around them in search of an idea, a solution to Mondo's predicament. Then, there, out in the crowd there were certain couples dancing differently than the rest and in a much simpler style than the waltz. She turned her attention back to Mondo and looked at him brightly with an eagerness to try out this new style.

"Here, let's try it like this. It'll be much easier," she suggested, once again rearranging their hands. She secured his hands on her hips and rested hers upon his biceps (which she noted were tough. Did all men have hard biceps like Mondo's? Maybe she'd have to go and see....) because he was much too tall for her to rest her hands around his neck comfortably. "Now all we have to do is basically move and lightly sway from side-to-side. Nothing too difficult, right? I'll follow your lead~"

The moment his hands went to her hips, he felt his blood spike so hard it could have jumped right out of his body and ascended to the astral plane, along with his soul. In fact, his whole body jolted at the unexpectedly intimate contact. How was this any easier? Why was she being so forward with him?! Did she even realize what she was doing to him? He didn't mean to, but his fingers were gripping onto her hip bones harder than they should be thanks to his frenzied nerves. Instead of swaying, he trembled.

And you thought he was a hysterical trainwreck then! Look at him NOW! He's off the tracks.

His flinching could only last so long, and with a feebly bolstered resolve, he tried to dance. "S-so I..." he started to say, swallowed, and guided her into a gentle sway. And then let loose into yelling when he couldn't handle it. "LIKE THIS?!"

Oops. Too fast, Oowada!

At first, she flinched and shivered a bit from his sudden iron grip on her hips.

Ah, too much? She hadn't expected that it would overly stimulate him to such an extent. Maybe the close proximity would be too much to handle. For him, at least. She started to relax again seeing him attempt to guide them into a gentle sway, but was utterly blown away from his next outburst.

Oh god, the yelling. At close proximity. She could practically still feel her ear/fins vibrating from the sheer intensity of his voice. Being only one step closer sure made a difference. She was so stunned, it took her a moment to finally recollect herself to speak to him again.

"Uh... ah. Y-Yes," she said slowly... and then chuckled. It became one of those moments where when you've been so shocked, shocked down to the core, that things just become funny and you want to laugh at yourself for being so shocked.

"You're doing just fine, Mondo," she reassured him gently. Perhaps they should take a break? His nerves seemed completely frazzled, so he looked like he could use one. However, she didn't want to make him feel like she didn't want to dance with him either. Hm, so what to say?

"If you don't mind, perhaps we could go get a drink? After dancing, of course." She paused, and then added, "I'd like to get to know you more."
butterbelieveamanspromise: (But I ain't givin' it back...)

Holding her hips proved to be too much for him, especially for his teenage boy hormones, and to avoid any unwanted slip-ups he relocated his hands to the small of her back, which was easier for him to reach anyway. So he was doing just fine? He didn't think he was. He could tell he was botching up all over the place. The thought of ending this humiliating dance sounded like a relief, but trying to maintain conversation with her after this? It sounded just as harrowing and induced more anxiety. Keeping himself from launching into explosive volume was a huge undertaking of self-discipline.

"YEA- SH-shi...Sure... we could do that..."

"Good!" she chimed and as soon as the song was over, which wasn't much of a long wait as they had spent a considerable amount of time just to get into the groove of things, she took a step back and gave Mondo a small curtsy.

"Thank you for dancing with me. I had a lovely time," she thanked him earnestly and then straightened herself up. Curiously, she watched him, wondering if he was feeling better now that the dance was over. "I hope you had a lovely time, too. You did well for your first time."

Because, really, he could've just accidentally stepped on her feet or just jumped out a window. So, the fact they made it to the end of the dance was something Chiyo felt was a great feat for Mondo.
