I'll be there for you

Who: EV ERY ONE
What: Graduation. Prom.
When: The evening of May 31st.
Where: The Stadium.
Warnings: WHO KNOWS

One might find the stadium a little hot and humid for those used to a spring graduation ceremony. This fine evening the Academy is experiencing its first hints of summer, a warm breeze providing relief to those who would sit on the stadium floor, which had been rearranged into a platform overlooking neat rows of chairs meant to seat the gathered crowd of faculty and students. Towards the other end of the complex was the arrangement for the prom that was to follow. Food and drink, chairs and tables, each with a floral centerpiece, and, of course, a dance floor.

title or description

Before everyone could get their party on, however, there was the main event of the evening. From his place at the podium, Master Hand watched students and staff alike find their way into the stadium. With the recent robot shenanigans, there seemed to be tensions in need of dispelling. If the Headmaster knew one thing, however, it was that some silly city antics were not going to ruin this esteemed event. Not tonight. Not if he could help it.

-------

HEY DUDES! Here's how stuff is going to work. We kick off the log with GRADUATION. This part of the log will be divided into separate threads. I'll post them all at once, so feel free to hop around, mingle, post whenever, wherever.

HOWEVER, once the PROM starts, it will be up to you guys to post your own threads. Please check out last year's log if you'd like an idea of how this works. Everything after the thread titled "DISMISSAL" (I will post that in a bit, so don't post prom threads until I have that up!) will be considered prom, though don't let that stop you from continuing to post in the graduation section.

Please label all your threads appropriately! (Examples: "SHENANIGANS AT THE FOOD TABLE", "DANCE-OFF", "THE PUNCH IS SPIKED", "BOTHER X" In general, a location + what is going on in the thread is the way to go. Obviously, more than one thread can take place at the same location.

Linking back and forth when and if you thread hop is very much appreciated. If things start to look a bit laggy, we'll bump to the next page. Most importantly, HAVE FUN, and let a mod know about any problems or concerns you might have!

He found this humorous and nostalgic; Achilles didn't even want to try when he told him his name. Somehow then, he felt a lot better about what he just did. Like something else was lifted from his heart.

Eirika was...endearing.

"'Connor' is just fine," he said. "The man from my land who gave me that name did not even try to pronounce it. He had passed not too long before I arrived...but in peace. I fully accept 'Connor'."

He owed Achilles that much to keep that name alive in him. To think he gave him that name, knowing the implications now...No, Connor could not go into any regrets.

"Oh..."

There was a mixing of feelings then. Unsure if she was disappointing. A little sad to hear that Connor seemed... to be rather familiar with loss. "I don't... I don't even know to begin saying your given name."

Her hand sat at the bottom of her bodice again as she contemplated. I have to try. "Rah... tahn..." Nibbling upon her lower lip, she found herself pausing before she addressed him. "Could you say it again? Slower for me?"

Because she had to try.

Seriously Eirika, there was no need to try. He was just fine being called "Connor". REALLY. Though hearing her try was...kind of...sweet.

Heh.

You are trying too hard, Eirika.

Maybe just this once.

Again, he trusted Eirika to it. Let us see it to the end.

Slowly. And softly. He began.

"Ra," Pause. "Tonhn. Haké:ton."

Extra emphasis on accents.

Thump.

It was the tone of voice he took with her that made heat find her cheeks once more. Trying to ignore it, she eyed him so intently that she imagined from an objective perspective, she might have looked slightly intimidating. Ambition did that sometimes.

"Ra-tonhn-" she started, as if trying to commit it to memory before she considered the second half. "Haké:ton. Ratonhn. Haké:ton." And then, "Ratonhnhakê:ton."

Which to her sounded immensely strange with her archaic accent. As if she put too much of a tonal inflection on various parts. Except that was simply how she spoke when she sounded. Too regal, perhaps. Whatever the case, she certainly was a princess trying to say an Iroquoian name.
mohawk_tomahawk: (someday you will see me like this)

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2013-06-09 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, she did it. She really did it. Really. Did it.

Oh.

"You did not have to try so hard. 'Connor' is really just fine for me."

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2013-06-09 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
She flushed. And covered her face behind her hands. At least for a few moments.

I owed it to you to make the attempt. If you give me something so precious, I should hold it as if it's glass. Please don't make me feel as if...

"I understand," she replied to him as she tried to put her composure back together. "Connor." It was a lot easier to say, honestly.

Well okay, maybe perhaps he could just add a bit more tact. With a small smile and a near beaming composition, he nodded his head. As if...well, maybe he wasn't too sure what it was.

"...If it gives you some peace, you had said it correctly. That is a first outside of my village."

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2013-06-09 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
"It's difficult," she confessed. "'Connor' is a lot easier for me. I feel very strange trying to say your entire name. I... have mixed feelings about having two different names."

Fiddling with her necklace, she continued to clarify, "I suppose if I had masked myself as a mercenary for longer that perhaps I would have adapted to that name permanently, though my given name isn't difficult to say in the least. I'm unsure of how I feel about the matter."

But you know yourself better than I do. I just feel a little sad.

"Connor it was, however. That is the man I met when I trailed you some time ago. He is still the same man who stands before me now. And that is how I shall call him."
mohawk_tomahawk: KATE (standing here)

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2013-06-09 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Eirika had to change her name too as a mercenary? That was news. But easily understandable. He didn't have to ask why. He learned of Eirika's plights as a princess in arms. He remembered her telling him vividly. He listened.

"Both of us were plunged into conflict. Worlds had to be seen outside of our own. We both had to take risks to keep ourselves and those whom we wanted to protect safe."

Another nod.

The more Eirika spoke, the less he regretted sharing.

I do not know why, but somehow I knew you would understand. I need not say anything else here.

"I am not opposed to that reasoning. The very reason why I will call you 'Eirika'."
heartofarapier: ([resolute] akin to silence)

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2013-06-09 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded as she listened to him. Yes, he was correct. Both of their worlds had been plagued into their own variations of complications. And they had both reacted accordingly. And... hers was still suffering. She didn't bother to say it because they both already knew it.

And suddenly, she found herself stuck with one more thing to think about.

Consequently, she used Connor as a temporary distraction. "You say it so comfortably now," Eirika observed as she eyed him. "You used to hesitate every time you said it, and now you say it so simply. I... like that."
mohawk_tomahawk: KATE (to see you by me)

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2013-06-09 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The reason for that...was simple. He was sure of that at the very least. Because she was right, he did feel at ease with it.

"I believe it is another form of...trust," Connor replied. To be seen as an equal...To be given a privilege to call one another.

Kind of like what he just did, right? "Connor" was just easier.

"Such contrast to my first day upon this land indeed."

So funny.
heartofarapier: ([longing] akin to desire)

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2013-06-09 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled. Slightly. Modestly. In the same reserved manner that she had given him smiles before.

"A contrast, yes." Eirika thought on that for a moment and she looked from him onto the remainder of the stadium with some consideration. "You're... different from how you were when we met. Because of that trust."

I think you've changed more than I have. Do I distrust you? I may be fond of you, Connor, and yet I still hold you at length from me. Am I protecting you, or am I protecting myself?

"I look forward to seeing how much more of you changes with time."
mohawk_tomahawk: KATE (blush...ing)

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2013-06-10 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Great. Now you have given him something to think about for days. DAYS...

Different? He was different? Why? How so? Because of trust? This place was...changing him? Sure this place would force change because it was so different. But really?

Had this place really changed me? I am uncertain of that. I had to adapt but...I suppose I do feel...different. Though I do not understand why. Or if this will lay down good fortune for my own future.

"Perhaps. In the meantime," Connor looked behind him now. "Shall we...return?"
heartofarapier: ([coy] akin to clever)

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2013-06-10 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
She had a feeling he was thinking. She expected that. If anything, Eirika's words were often thought-provoking, because to some degree a princess could rely on actions for only... some things. Not all things. And with things and Connor...

Words seemed best. Perhaps. For the time being.

"If you are ready to," she replied to him easily with a nod.
mohawk_tomahawk: KATE (frets)

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2013-06-10 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He really was going to be thinking about it. Hard.

...Connor merely just nodded in return, offering his arm again.
heartofarapier: ([bride] akin to unimpressed)

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2013-06-10 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It was easier the second time around. One arm looped about his carefully, and the other found the skirts to her dress to lift, just so she might step easier. And as much as she considered simply relaxing - perhaps even head to his shoulder, her own air or propriety was too great.

"I'm unsure of what your plans are, Connor, however, I do have someone I'd like to see, so if you don't mind, I'll be leaving you to your own devices after we return."
mohawk_tomahawk: KATE (deception disgrace)

[personal profile] mohawk_tomahawk 2013-06-10 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably was best that she didn't relax too much. Because as of now, Connor was unsure how he really felt about what had happened. He will be stewing on it for days to come. A head on his shoulder would just make him freeze again.

He'd already made a complete fool of himself.

Connor stood seemingly taller, and his expression he tried keeping blank.

"Very well, alright," he simply said. "I will be remaining, should you ever need me."
heartofarapier: ([undetermined] akin to everything)

[personal profile] heartofarapier 2013-06-10 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't escape her, the way he seemed to carry himself a little more... proper? Was that the word for it? Her hand at her gown reached over to pat his arm gently.

I'm worried about you.

"If you look so serious, someone will think we've been fighting," she spoke gently, for him alone. But she supposed she was no better, looking the way she did. So she softened and looked over to him as she tipped her head.

"I'm sure if anything happens, I'll be able to handle it. However, in the event that I need help, I'll..." And it was hard for her to concede to it as she reddened. "I will rely on you."
