Earlier in the day, if you were paying attention you might have seen something drop out of the low cruising clouds. Did you? Maybe. Probably not. Was that a scream in the distance? No? Yeah, no.

Later though, one might notice a young lady that was not previously on campus before. If she was lost she was certainly not showing any signs of being bothered by it, running around and marvelling at…

… Everything. She was marvelling at everything. Even that leaf. Even that tree branch. Look at that lake. Look at that building. Look at that sky.

Cyrus had the frequent habit of wandering around the grounds. Of course, he was always observing, learning more and more about the world, but it seemed aimless to those around him.

So to come across someone also taking everything in was quite a sight.

Elizabeth knew what a vending machine was, and their function of providing convenient products to passerby. However, they were also pretty obnoxious and had animatronic sales vendors dancing on top spouting things about Valuuuueee!, so she was not entirely sure what this strange, glowing box with buttons was supposed to actually be. She was looking at it intently from the front, tapping a finger against her chin before she moved a few steps to peer at it from the side.

It was often that some newcomer would be confused with modern technology, coming from eras or worlds without such things. Cyrus's scientific side took over. "That device dispenses goods upon the insertion of money. I may explain the mechanical functions if you wish."

Elizabeth glanced over at him, surprised both by his appearance and what he said.

"So it is a vending unit...! It's very quiet for one."

It was also the beverage sort that was just very unclear about what its contents really were. Elizabeth inspected the front again, noting what might have been the coin slot.

The coin she produced from her person, however, was too large to fit. "...Oh. Huh."

"You use currency unfamiliar to this region. You may get it exchanged in town, though I advise against it. This area is at war, and the city is unsafe. That said, what do you wish to purchase?"

Ah. Well. All of those facts were things that could complicate matters. Elizabeth glanced at him again, staring somewhat obviously at his hair though she was really more interested in what he had said.

"War?" The area around the school seemed far too peaceful to be in a warring state. "But oh, ah, I'm not sure. A... seven up?"

She wanted to know what on Earth that was. Seven "ups"? What would be considered an "up"?
