[The first group has been given directions to one of FDC's nicest sushi restaurants. The dining room is dimly lit, but comfortable. There's quiet music playing overhead. The menu is expensive- and mostly consists of sushi, but there are certainly other options- but don't worry about the price; someone else is covering all of this, right?

It might have been smart to dress nice- but not too nice- for your date. At least that's what Gold suggested!

There's a candle at every table. Beside each candle, there is a card. On each card, there is a different letter-number combination.

Find your table!

[Simple enough question, with a simple answer. But what Phoenix doesn't know about is the far-seeing web of lifelong schemes hidden beneath it.]



[Ocelot lays the menu down with his fingertips on top, and resumes smirking at Phoenix. There is no hint of change in his bearing. He is a professional at keeping secrets. And despite being a spirit medium, he is apparently unaware of how his aura has become entangled in cold black locks and chains.]

I teach a class on western film studies. Do you like movies, Phoenix?

[That smirk is unsettling, but that's the least of Phoenix's worry. Just the simple sentence of "I teach a class of western film studies" yields five psyche locks.

Not only that, but....

they're black. Phoenix has no idea what that even means, but obviously it means he's hiding something. Many things.

He raises his eyebrows in nervousness, but doesn't cower away like he wants to. Obviously there's something awry here.]

Is that... is that what you really do?

Well, I'm still a Major. You could call this a vacation.

[He removes his attention from Phoenix to look down at the menu again, sliding his finger down to a footnote at the bottom and stopping there.]

...Raw? The seafood here is raw?

Teaching here? A vacation?

[Phoenix gives a small, nervous laugh at that, seeing as how many horrible things have gone on here. But that's probably Ocelot's point, and that makes him even more nervous.]

Ah-- it's probably sushi. Have you never had sushi?

No, have you?

But it's just raw fish, right? I can handle that.

[DETERMINED FACE.]

Yeah, I've had sushi. It's pretty good, actually!

[He gave a sheepish grin. Somewhat surprised that a "tough guy" like Ocelot had never had raw fish.]

[He's actually eaten a pack full of dead uncooked animals before (with miserable results), but this is a personal challenge matter for him.]

[He motions for the server and puts in an order for sushi and sake.]

So is that what you're getting, too?

Oh-- ah, I guess so. I don't see why not.

[He puts in an order for sushi as well, but instead of sake he orders grape juice.]

So, Phoenix. Why did you sign up for this?

[He's expertly twirling his chopsticks between two fingers like batons.]

Hm, well, I mean... I guess you could say I felt compelled.

[He really didn't want to go on any dates, but he did somewhat fear what the Hands would do if he didn't. Besides, making new friends wasn't a bad thing.]
