Unlike most teachers here, Gordon had handled a physics classroom before--Grad students go to extremes for money. He figured a multiple-tier structure would work, two difficulty levels covering the same subject.

In this case, their first set of homework could either be a tame block of algebraic expressions or a sultry set of differentials depending the student's level. Either way, the the lecture and lab would essentially be the same.

He responds into the phone out of habit: "Either, that's not an issue with m--" asejglskdagajl THEN he realizes what's going on and scowls at the fat teenager in the front as he clicks the phone shut.

"I meant if I'm not physically here and able to answer them in person, kid."

He's not sure if Apple Kid is really that obtuse and literal-minded, or if he's just being a smart-ass. He actually hopes it's the latter; if it's the former then now he's never ever going to stop calling!

"Well, you did mention that to me in class," said Apple Kid, still on the phone. "I did think it a bit strange that you would want me to call you in the middle of class instead of just raising my hand, but perhaps you enjoy telephone conversations; I know that I certainly do."

He just shakes his head, and moves on to the next student. He can already tell this kid is going to drive him batty.
