Smash vs. Wild

Who: Flint and YOU!
What: The manliest camping trip ever
Where: The green stuff in the northeast corner of the map
When: The weekend of September 7-9
Warnings: Poison ivy.

Ah, camping. The great outdoors! Nature! Wind in the trees and rivers flowing down the mountain. Far, far, far away from civilization. And science. Especially science. Flint loved the outdoors. A little fresh air always did wonders for his mood. And when things got really stressful? Well, on those occasions, he needed an extra dose of the outdoors.

This was one of those occasions.

Two times running mazes for homicidal robots was two times too many, and as much as he could at least tolerate all the wonders of modern invention in FDC, all of the recent science had set him a little on edge. He needed to unwind, and he finally found himself with a free weekend to do it. And he thought, why not bring everyone else along for the ride? Surely some fresh air would do them good, too. Yep, this was gonna be a good weekend.

((OOC: There will be some general threads but please feel free to go nuts and make your own threads for stuff!))

Oh look it's Duster, who has decided to go camping with his friend Flint, because Duster is stupid.

"Hi, Flint. What are you doing?" said Duster as he carried a fishing pole with him. He didn't know if there was anywhere to fish around here, but fishing was always nice.

Max has managed to lash what appears to be an entire tree trunk between two standing trees on the edge of the clearing to become the base for his lean-to.

LET'S DO IT.

Aquenda absent-mindedly rolled a rock under one hoof as she took stock of the clearing. It wouldn't be too different to set up camp in a forest instead of a desert wasteland, right?

"Do you have the, ah... the..." She muttered something to herself, glancing to the side. "...Skin? Or something, from animals. The leather to make the tent, that's it. I think it will take too long to make some fresh before night..."

CATCHING BUGS

[personal profile] robinsegg 2012-09-08 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sig never missed an opportunity to go out into the trees to catch bugs, especially if he can get an excuse to be out in the forest even at night!

If he wasn't lingering around at the campsite, Sig was wandering around in the trees.

"We don't need leather, we just need to bend the tree branches so there's enough leaf cover if it gets windy or wet," Link said confidently as he moved toward one side of the clearing and began assessing the usefulness of each tree for the job. He grew up in a forest like this. He was completely in his element.

Pfft. Rain. Like that's such a big deal. It's totally not to the little kid in green who's holding his small wooden shield over his head to keep the water from his eyes. That was really the only thing he cared about.

"That will work?" Well, if tree homes worked for Night Elves... then again, they somehow manipulated the trees to grow into buildings for them. This wasn't really the same thing at all.

At least she was tall enough to reach some good-sized branches. She followed Link around as he inspected the trees. "Just show me which ones we should use!"

OCELOT WAS READY. ...Ready to plagiarize everything he could remember about Naked Snake's survival methods, anyway. And he sure was excited about it. The only way it could have been better was if Snake himself were there so Ocelot could really copy him, but the bastard had left the country.

Oh well. Ocelot was sure he could prove himself anyway. How hard could it be? It was about finding food, right? He had stolen and eaten most of Snake's raw wilderness snacks, so he mostly knew what to look for. Nevermind that he had been violently sick for hours afterwards.

He didn't think Snake took the time to cook anything, but decided it wouldn't be cheating if he roasted something for a bit anyway... So, some hours later, he approached the campfire, with a freshly stomped-on snake in hand and a stick in the other. He poked the dead reptile onto the stick, wound it around a few times, then held it over the fire like a marshmallow, feeling like a total badass the whole time.

Blue had scoured out a good stick for herself earlier. It was thick enough to take a beating, and small enough that she was able to carry it comfortably with her smaller frame. When she made it to the lakeside, she was pleased to find that someone was already there.

The girl approached with a friendly smile, helping herself to a seat nearby to finish prepping her own stick.

"Going fishing too?" She asked.

ADVENTURE TIME

[personal profile] explosion_day 2012-09-09 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
RICK WAS TOTALLY HERE. He was so excited to be here. He was outside. Outside was a completely new experience compared to Aperture Science, Space, and the School. It was new and exiting and amazing.

How he got this far on his own was a grand mystery--hitched a ride on the back of a majestic eagle, or someone had a really strong magnet, or he propelled himself through shear robotestosterone and larate--but there was a simple fact of the matter and that was THERE WAS ONLY SO FAR Rick could go.

You know, without legs or arms.

There is a robot in the wilderness, made of metal and spherical in shape, slightly larger than a basketball and slightly smaller than a beach ball. He chattering on about adventure and manliness and occasionally growling about his predicament, flipping his handle bars about tiredly like a fish out of water. He stood out very much against the green/slowly browning leaves and foliage of the forest.

"Hey!" Perhaps someone with legs or arms could assist poor Rick. "Hey, you! Human andor rough description of the less humany types! Down here!"

Link gave a firm nod, looking up at the trees as he walked the perimeter. It took a little while until he stopped and pointed upward, "These two are close enough we should be able to pull some of the thicker branches together. And there are other trees just behind them we can get smaller, more flexible branches from. you have to be careful not to break anything on them, though."

Why is it that every time Sig runs into this green kid, it's always raining?

Sig usually has a hard time remembering names with faces (not that he ever got Link's name in the first place). It's another thing when it came to bugs, though, and Sig still remembers about the fairy talk. And he still wanted to catch one.

When he notices Link in the rain, Sig tries to catch his attention by raising his arm and waving it in the air.

"Fairy boy." Because that's all he knew about the other, really.

There's a blue-haired kid staring at you.

Why was a cocoon talking and wiggling some weird bars?

You are breaking Vinnie's heart.

Extra fishing for the amount of people that had come along seemed like a wise idea. It was hard to tell how many of them knew how to rustle up some food. Then again, thinking about certain Venusaurs, it was likewise hard to tell how many of them actually needed any food.

There was her camping knife she was gonna whittle this stick. Awww yiss.

"A fair bit! Using an old rod only ever got me a bunch of Magikarp." For the record, Magikarp did not taste good. "This way turned out a bit more reliable."

Even without anything over his head, Vinnie wasn't too bothered by this rain. It'd be another thing altogether if the downpour lasted several days in a row, but they were only out here for a weekend anyway. It was just water, after all - all it was going to do was get you wet and muddy. He had shifted back into Pokemon form, letting the downpour slide off his petals and two major leaves.

But man, if his flowery aroma was strong before, it was going to be magnified with the rainfall.

Water meant different things for different people. When Blue was younger, the sound of thunder or even just the onset of a small shower was enough to throw her into a mild panic. Something like this would have had her heart pounding in no time. Things were different with a fire starter. They had both learned since then, the do's and the don'ts. But even still, sometimes Blue couldn't help the slight leap in her chest when she felt the light patters of water on her hands.

Admittedly, this was nothing compared to the rains that had fallen last month. Her dragon was already safely tucked away. There was no reason to freak out.

... Actually it was quite difficult to freak out. There was a very calming, sweet scent in the air. It was soothing. Blue could already guess where it came from before she even got back to camp. She ran over over, clutching her hat to her head, to say hello.
travelingbelle: (What am I staring at)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2012-09-10 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Blue had also ended up staring at bit at this sphere she had stumbled upon.

This was the weirdest Magnemite she had ever seen.

But Magnemites didn't talk!?!?!

"H-hello?"
