DORM LOG GET IN HERE EVERYONE

Warnings: I wrote 'hijinks'. That should explain everything.

Ripped off the last one and all its friends: Basically, here's what's going down. We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Anything and everything is possible. Slumber party in the common room! Build a wall outside your best or worst friend's room from whatever garbage you find lying around to prevent them from escaping the confines of their dorm! Gather around the TV for some late night movie action! Kidnap a princess or two! Break down some unfortunate walls! Whatever you want. It can all be yours if you make a thread. So have at it! Don't let this log get away untagged.

[Well Phoenix was a polite kind of guy. So if some guy liked to wear French maid outfits on weekends, that was their choice and Phoenix wouldn't let that bother him.]

I've been... okay.

[He didn't want to bring up the murders, but he figured it made everyone on edge. He noticed, however, Jeff's book.]

Oh, what is that you're reading?

[Well frig. Jeff didn't want anyone to know about his little hobby. He'd been feeling particularly giddy since the murders started.

Then again, Phoenix didn't seem like the type to hold blackmail or announce such an embarrassing fact to the public.]

Well, it's, ah...

[Jeff cleared his throat in an attempt to sound more confident, and revealed the book's cover.]

A detective mystery novel.

[Phoenix smiled when Jeff revealed the book. He didn't think anything bad of it at all.]

Oh! That sounds interesting. I actually read quite a few of those myself in college.

[Phoenix likes to solve legal mysteries okay. It's similar enough.]

[Well then. Jeff wasn't sure whether that made him feel less like a nerd or that Phoenix was even more of one.]

You did? Do you... have any recommendations?

[Phoenix probably wasn't as big a nerd as Jeff was when it came to detective novels. He had read a few of them recently after being disbarred, and in college, but that's it.]

Well, um... You've read the Yancy Crew books, right?

Yancy Crew? I think I've read one or two. Those are the ones about the amateur sleuth, right? They were a bit too... childish for my tastes.

Well, uh... I mean, I read those as a kid. I figure they're a good introduction to the genre.

[Okay he feels stupid now for recommending them to Maya. Although Maya's pretty childish so... yeah.]

Surely you've read the Sherlock Bones books right?

And then Carbon laughed forever at that name.

Considering I'm already reading a mystery novel, I hardly think I need an "introduction to the genre."

[Wow Phoenix, way to be an idiot. Jeff is not impressed.]

Of course I've read Sherlock Bones. I prefer those stories to Yancy Crew. They're much more psychologically complex and really make you pay attention to the story in order to notice all the clues. He truly is a genius detective.

Well, I mean, I'm not as up-to-date on mystery detective novels as you are, so I can't recommend much more.

You said you read some in college. How long has it been since then?

U-um... Well, let's see... I'm 26 now, so... I guess it's been about five years?

[Yeah well Jeff is just a stupid teenager so there. Just wait until you're wrongly accused of murder and Phoenix saves the day.]

Only five? Really, I thought you'd be older than that. I mean, you seem so mature after all. But to think you're only 5 years older than me. What a surprise.

And... what was it you did before you came here to Smash Academy? I'm sure you were very successful and doing well during those years away from school.

[Oh Jeff, don't go there. Don't make Phoenix bring up his disbarment. He has a feeling that if he brings up being a lawyer, Jeff will ask him why he no longer is. And it's not like he can lie -- surely there are news stories all about it. But Phoenix can't lie. :|]

Oh, uh... I was a defense attorney.

A defense attorney?

[Okay, that actually caused him to pause. Jeff wasn't expecting an answer like that. Unfortunately, it brought up some bad memories about his father.]

Oh... Well, that's... certainly an impressive career. But I must ask why you decided to become a teacher instead. No offense, but it seems almost like a step down from being a lawyer.

It's... not that impressive of a career, honestly. Even though I'm from California, the game is based on the Japanese court system in which Defense attorneys are paid rather poorly, and I struggled to make ends meet, so I worked part-time at Capcom Academy. I liked it enough there, so I decided to become a full-time professor.

[That's... not a complete lie. It's just a lie by omission. While what he said was all true, he left out the crucial detail of his disbarment forcing him to quit the defense job.]

It may be a step down in some ways, but I guess I'm just taking a break.

[Ah. So Phoenix wasn't a successful attorney. At least not compared to his father but that was opening a whole other can of worms that Jeff preferred not to think about. Phoenix's sob story made him feel slightly better.]

Well that makes sense. Being a lawyer does seem like a competitive career. I guess not everyone can make it big, especially with only a couple years experience under their belt. At least you found something else that is more to your... stature.

[Phoenix didn't miss what he interpreted to be smugness in Jeff's statement about finding a job more to his "stature." He frowned a bit at that, being unable to keep his thoughts off his very expressive face, but he attempted to ignore it. Jeff was just an arrogant little bitch, wasn't he?]

Well, it's very competitive in America but in Japan prosecution and defense are entirely different and defense attorneys are looked down upon and so it's not competitive at all. Apparently in like two years from now, California adopts the flawed Japanese court system.

O-oh, well, I just needed a change of scenery. Really. I like it here.

You seem to fit right in. I mean, you seem like an energetic, younger man. Many of the teachers here are too old to really relate and communicate clearly to the younger generation. But someone like you, who is only a few years older than some of them, surely must be on good terms with the students in his class.

[And that was totally Jeff's way of calling Phoenix immature. Not that he would outright say it. Gosh, insulting a teacher straight to his face? How unchivalrous and rude would that be?]

That's right, you teach... Political Science, wasn't it? You know, I may just stop by. I'm sure it won't be anything new for me, but I would be more than willing to assist the newer students if need be.

[New plan: go to Phoenix's class and make a fool out of him in front of all the other students. Awesome.]
