Kicking a Boxer when he's down

Who: Mac and YOU
What: Mac is very, very much in bad shape in the hospital. Are you there to see him?
Where: Some hospital room in Intensive Care...which will move to a better hospital room eventually.
When: November 30 - December 10th
Warnings: Bawwwwwww

"He almost had Hypovolemic Shock," that's what the doctor would have said if your character walked in the moment they saw the news.

"He lost a scary amount of blood."

When they took him in, Mac was breathing heavily and his blood pressure was low. But. He was lucky. The murderer didn't hit any organs. But he made up for that by draining a large amount of blood out of Mac. Which would have shut down his organs. What would have made it worse, is that in ICU, Mac could not have been seen that whole day. He was in surgery, tests were taken, all that scary stuff went on through most of the day.

Finally, evening. Mac was stable. If your character was still around, the doctor came out to say more.

"He's a very lucky boy. We closed up all his wounds and he's getting blood transfused. He's still not well and we're going to have to watch him for a while but he should make a full recovery. He will be healthy in no time. You can visit him tomorrow."

But recovery has it's stages. And with the murderer still out there...well...Just talk to Mac about how he's feeling.

[Put a date when your character was there (if they were someone who visited everyday, obviously note that on one thread but don't do 10 threads obviously, that would be kinda crazy lmao). Also, as the days go by, Mac's condition does get better (I'd say...starting around the 5th). Just noting that in case your dude wanted to pry info out of a defeated Mac on the murderer.]

He, indeed, was horrified when he stepped in. He looked terrible. No, he looked downright insufferable. The condition he was in, it was something too astonishingly bad to ignore.

N rushed up to him, his face full of strong concern and pure anger.

"Who did this to you?!"

Mac winced at N suddenly having an outburst. It hurt right now to talk too much and it hurt even worse to see N so angry. Mac remembered how he was like when Mac boxed Sandman. And how N showed concern at their sleepover. It was too much. What was worse, Mac couldn't remember and wasn't even in the right state to try to remember what went down; let alone explain it.

"...I don't...I don't know..."

"How could you NOT know?!" N furiously shouted. He didn't mean to take it out on Mac, as he was being angry for him, not at him. It was impossible for him to keep completely calm, though. Even N himself could not manage that.

"He was the one who attacked you! You must know something!"

It hurt to talk and it didn't help that N was so angry, Mac stirred in his cot out of pain. Getting excited was a big no-no and Mac was so out of it mentally that it wasn't helping. He couldn't remember right now. He could remember anything. Not a thing. Why? He got a sad, even weaker look in his eyes.

"I...don't...can't...hnng..."

The doctor then came in, suddenly. He must have heard the noise. He looked N very seriously, "Sir, this is a hospital room. Shouting like that isn't allowed."

N shot the doctor a glare, his body and shoulders tense, eyebrows furrowed. He was clearly upset- very, very upset.

Yet he wanted to stay with Mac. He didn't want to be booted because of his screaming. Reluctantly, he forced himself to breath a little deeper, to calm down a little more.

"... I apologize," he muttered unwillingly. "It will not happen again."

The doctor didn't like being glared at, oh no. But he was the doctor treating Mac, and N looked obviously upset. The doctor was about to say something else but Mac spoke before he had the chance, "Doc...s'okay...he's just..."

The doctor shook his head and turned to N.

He didn't look cross, mainly because he just wanted N to understand. Mac looked at them both sadly. He can't even begin to start thinking how this all was the worst thing ever. The doctor didn't say anything else, he left the room. Once he did, Mac spoke up.

"Doc just cares...he's a good doc doin' his job is all..."

N remained wordless, his expression unreadable. Was it angry? Sad? Guilty? Unpleasant? Who knows. It surely wasn't very positive in any regard.

Finally, after a moment of silence, he stepped over to Mac's bedside and gently sat down on an empty patch of mattress near the edge. He didn't want to interfere with his body, after all. He had to be tender.

"How... are you feeling?"

"...I'm okay..."

Hahaha, no he's not it's obvious he's not and is in a good deal of pain. The doctor was supposed to give him something for that, but taking it puts him right out. He didn't want that just yet.

"...I'm sorry."

N lifted his eyes in astonishment, his expression now seen as a confused one. What... did he just say? Was he really saying sorry?

"Why are you apologizing? You have no reason to," he bewilderedly argued. "You have done nothing wrong."

"I promised I'd be more careful when I fought...I wasn't careful enough, I guess...Heh..."

He smiled almost, but it looked more like twisted sad smile. "Kinda...let you down...Let everyone down...couldn't stop 'im..."

Mac must seriously be out of his usual self from being all kinds of drugged and drained because. Well. His eyes started to water up.

"There is only so much you can do against someone vile with no honor," N asserted. "You have not let us down. It just means that this is a more formidable foe than we thought... and we may need team effort."

He took note of the 'him'. Mac at least seemed to remember this person's gender. That was good, as it automatically ruled out many people on the account of them being women. It was a man they were searching for.

A horrible, nasty excuse for a man.

"...I don't want no one else gettin' hurt..."

No way, he doesn't want that more than anything. Mac never met anyone who tried to really KILL him, and this person is out for BLOOD. With no remorse or ounce of sanity. He wanted Mac DEAD in COLD BLOOD. Mac was actually...scared right now. He was so lucky that he lived...he wouldn't want anyone else in this position.

"Yes, I know, but sometimes..."

N tipped his head downward and shut his eyes closed. The words that came out of his mouth was something he could speak for with experience.

"Sometimes, you cannot save everyone. Some will still be hurt. It is well enough that you tried your best, but the reality is harsh."

"..."

He just looked down again. The silence was so great you could hear a pin drop. That might have been the harshest thing he could have heard, especially in his condition and situation. If he were perfectly sound and not drugged, he would have handled it better. The only thing he could truly register was that N meant well.

Give him a few days and he'd think straight again.

"I...hate bein' here...so much. Should be...tryin' to find 'im too," was all he could say.

"What you should do is relax and recover," came N's argumentative assertion. "Stressing will not help to heal you any sooner."

His father always told him that as a child when he, say, fell off of his skateboard and cut himself on the ramp.

"If you heal quicker... then you can take care of what you must. Now is the time to rest."

"...Yeah," Mac replied, giving in. N was right, and as if Mac had the energy to be really talking all tough and macho about it.

Because he obviously was pretty weak right now.

"...Yeah you're right...that's why I'm here in the hospital anyway."

He actually maybe smiled a little. A little.

That finally mellowed N out a little. It seemed like Mac was finally getting the message. That alone made him feel much better.

He placed a hand on his forehead and smiled.

"That is correct. Once you heal up... then you can do what you must, but now, you should take it easy. Have you eaten?"

He wasn't sure how hospital food tasted, though.

"Doc said if I keep gettin' better...I can eat solid food tomorrow."

Yeah see, they just got him stable like within hours ago. There was a clear liquid in a bag he was getting infused with as well.

"They got me hooked up on liquid fuel...I'm like a car engine."

He actually kind of laughed, see he joked about himself. This might have been a better sign.

N eyed the IV confusedly. He never really had to get hospitalized, the lucky boy. He wondered how that would compensate for food.

"Is it a brand of mineral water with all of the nutrients you need?" He got up and examined the sack closely, but not by touch. That could possibly interfere, right? He wasn't sure, and he wasn't about to find out.

"...Dunno."

A distraction, Mac liked this.

"All I know is that I ain't feelin' like I'm hungry...Even though I wanna eat real food real bad..."

Docs, he can eat solid food probably now sob.

"Then perhaps... you are ready to?" N had to wonder that. Surely liquid wasn't enough.

He hummed in thought, his eyes drawn to the exit. "Would you be willing for me to locate a nurse? I could ask."

Why do that when there's a button to call over a nurse? Because N doesn't know what that is. Pro.

"S'okay...there's a button over there to call a...nurse."

He pointed to it on the wall.

Ow.

"... This can do that?" N questioned, a finger hovered curiously over the button. "I wouldn't have thought technology was that powerful."

He pressed.

"...Hospitals gotta keep themselves updated..."

Bam, a nurse walked in. Did you press that, green haired gentleman? "Did you need anything?"

That had a very easy answer. N stepped up to her and nodded firmly.

"I would like to see if he would be able to eat solid food. He is longing to eat."
