/insert Silver's theme here.
Who: Lyra and Silver
What: Rival fight get.
Where: The stadium
When: July 15th not long after he's reclaimed Gengar so like... 2pmish?
Warnings: It's a pokemon battle. 8D
[Despite having agreed to a battle, Silver'd first gone to reclaim his Gengar from N. And then he'd come down to the stadium, making his way up into the stands to give some of his Pokemon a brush before battle.
Currently, Bree was commandeering the attentions of it while the teen mulled things over in his head but quickly dismissed them in turn. As strange as the school was, he was hear for one purpose - to get stronger. And he would, regardless of the strangeness and the fact that Lyra was like 12. And apparently had more than that stupid Maril.
Whatever. A battle was a battle.] Heh, looking forward to the battle, girl?
[The Umbreon nodded, and Silver laughed. Of course she was - stupid question.] Good. We'll crush her.
Ummmbreee. [Silver grinned just a little then fished out his Sneasel so that he could groom the Pokemon as well, all the while keeping an eye on the entrance to the stadium.
If only so that he could deny being nice to his tools, of course.]

[Don't mind Lyra. She'll just be over here, being a measly 4'9". SO JEALOUS. Maybe if she climbs up on Rui's shoulders...? Nah.
Speaking of Rui, the Feraligatr was looking eager to go. It stomped out into the stadium, letting out a deep roar. That was one thing about keeping a Pokemon out of their ball; her lead Pokemon was always very obvious. with neither Meganium nor Magneton on this Silver's team, though, she felt pretty confident about leaving it in Rui's hands.
That roar seemed to be just the thing Lyra needed to shake off all the distraction (like stupid Silver being so grown up and TALL and man she couldn't WAIT to be sixteen). She adjusted her hat, nodding to Silver.]
Let's see if your battling skills got any more impressive, too! Come at us with all you've got!

It's kinda cute.Either way, his amusement is hidden behind a bored look as he tugs out a pokeball and lets his Golbat onto the field.] Get up high and Confuse Ray it.
[Hope that confidence will hold, as Silver's looking calm and collected over here with his hands in his pockets, not all worried - if anything there's a quite confidence in his pokemon. If anything, this match will allow him to see this brats team and better plan for future battles.]
no subject
Still not a Crobat, huh?
[Well, one more thing in common with the bat she'd fought in the past, then. She watched Rui wobbling on its feet; confusion was definitely going to throw a wrench in the works, but there wasn't much she could do about that.]
Rui, Waterfall!
[The Feraligatr leapt off the ground, propelled upward by a powerful stream of water, and... missed Golbat entirely. Rui veered off-course, teetered in mid-air for a moment, then fell like a sack of bricks, mud and water flying as it hit the ground. Stupid confusion. This wasn't exactly a solid start.]
no subject
Air Cutter. [He wasn't that concerned about winning right now - more about testing Lyra and her strategies. The one that he knew was weak - both with pokemon and battling. This one seemed decent enough. So far.]
no subject
Lyra bites her lip. It'd be trouble enough just dealing with confusion, but Golbat being so high up makes it all the more difficult; Rui's a brawler. Ranged fighting isn't really its forte.]
Try again, Rui! Boost yourself up!
[Again, the Feraligatr is propelled upward, heading for Golbat. This time, luck's on Lyra's side; Rui doesn't fall. Still, it's not quite close enough to reach Golbat, so at the apex of the jump, she calls out:]
Now try an Ice Punch!
[Rui throws itself at Golbat, an aura of frost around its fist as it takes a swing. It's a risky move; if it misses, Rui's gonna be smacking into the ground again. But frankly, it's a risk she figures she has to take if she wants to land any hits in the near future.]
no subject
Lyra, WTF?! A small snarl and a bite of his thumb - if only to keep from yelling at the Golbat as he needs it to be happy to evolve -] Tch. Lucky hit!
[A nod with a smirk as he gives his next order.] Poison Fang.
[Hopefully the attack will be deep enough to poison the other pokemon.]
no subject
Rui lands on its feet heavily, the impact kicking up a cloud of dust. It's obvious that her ace is still raring to fight, but with two status conditions working against it, Lyra doesn't like the odds. It's an uphill battle just getting in a hit, and with the poison adding a deadly timer to that, all Golbat would have to do is stall until Rui finished itself off. Her hand drops to her belt, pulling a ball free.]
Rui, change of plans! Get back here!
[The Feraligatr is withdrawn, and in its place, she sends out a different Pokemon: a Xatu. Golbat wants to play hard to get? She'll just send out something that can fly, too.]
Xatu, Psychic!
no subject
A flick through his team with an expert touch - before a pokeball's withdrawn, Silver tossing Gengar out.] Dark Pulse.
[His grins more than a little cruel.]
no subject
...She's got nothing. This isn't a matchup that Xatu can win. Xatu is weak enough that any move Silver pulls is bound to KO the bird. If she switches Xatu out, she keeps him from fainting, but that means another Pokemon has to take the hit meant for him, and that means the team as a whole is weaker for it. Both she and Xatu know it; it's the ugliest part of Pokemon battling, but there's no avoiding it. She's sending her Xatu out on a kamikaze mission, so to speak.
The only question left is which move to use. Signal Beam and Psychic are both out against a ghost-type. Ominous Wind probably won't have the power to KO Gengar, though it will weaken it. Confuse Ray sticks Gengar with a status condition, making it easier for whatever comes after Xatu. Her mind hovers between the two for a brief, indecisive moment, but she settles quickly. No time to hesitate in the middle of a fight.]
...Sorry, Xatu. Ominous Wind!
[The bird cries out solemnly, spreading his wings wide as a chill wind roars through the arena.]
no subject
Dodge if you can but use Dark Pulse again! [Silver doesn't wait -- Pushing the ghost as hard as always, seemingly uncaring about the fact that it's so low of health after the attack hits. Keeping up the offensive, unwilling to spare any sort of mercy in the middle of battle is how Silver's always operated, and always would. Ugly and cruel, maybe, but it's a method that's proved to work more than not.] Heh. Still so weak. It's kinda pathetic.
no subject
We're both one-for-one, Silver. Don't you think it's a little early to be calling me weak?
[She tosses out another ball, this one revealing a giant 20-foot earth-devouring horror. Just kidding, it's actually just a Furret. The cute little fuzzball cocks his head curiously at Gengar, wearing an innocent smile.
Apparently, she seems to think that because normal-types are immune to ghost moves, she'll have an advantage. Kind of a rookie mistake, if that's the case: normal-types definitely aren't immune to Dark Pulse, or any other non-ghost moves Gengar might be packing.]
LJ, I would like my notifs. :|
[At the rate this was going, he'd win. Really, he was expecting more, but there's no need to get sloppy just as he was getting cocky. He just had to keep calm if the battle turned against his favor - not that he thought it'd turn against him of course. The kid hardly seemed to know her types.
Hahah Silver, calm when he's losing? Yea no... that's more unlikely than not.]Yeah, same here :/
Before Silver can even finish saying his order, Lyra interrupts, calling out an order of her own in a teasing little singsong voice.]
Sucker Punch.
[Joke's on you, Silver: LYRA ACTIVATES HER TRAP CARD. This was what she'd been hoping would happen, in all actuality. She knew Silver -- the one she was used to, at least -- had plenty of smarts. If she sent out something really threatening when Gengar was this injured, there was the possibility of Silver responding defensively, by throwing out a move like Hypnosis or Curse or something. With Furret... well, nobody ever took poor Tavi that seriously, and Silver was no exception, apparently.
And as a result, before Gengar had the chance to get an attack off, Tavi was all up in its face, straight-up slugging the ghost. Attacking first was a nice advantage, as was being able to hit with a super-effective dark-type move... but this also put Tavi in real close. If Gengar had survived that surprise attack, then there was no way that Furret was going to dodge Gengar's counterattack.]
So. I'm thinking that Lyra won here anyways!
One Sucker Punch later - and a nasty scowl at both Pokemon, Silver's 'Sore Loser side' starting to show, and he's recalling the ghost.] Hmph. Not bad for a kid.
Though let's see how you handle this. [The scowl morphed into a cold smirk before he enlarged a greatball, sending out his Alakazam - rather calmly, but inside he was already starting to fume. Though, months of having the pokeon on his team had taught him some from on emotional control, if tedious at that. Still. The surprise attack was a bitter pill to swallow (and would only add fuel to his tempter later.)] Psychic.
[So... How much does Tavi like psychic? Because Silver will end up spamming that attack ALALA Anime!Sabrina's Kadabra against Pikachu.]
I dunno, I think it'd be a close match!
[Well, why mess with what works? She got off to a weak start with that Golbat pushing Rui into a corner, sure, but Silver made the mistake of sending out a psychic-type into something he knows is gonna hit with a dark-type move. Maybe she can use this to keep up her momentum.
...Or not. Tavi bounds in to deliver another punch, but he's not lucky enough to avoid being attacked this time around. Lyra's feeling pretty confident that he can handle the hit, but nope. Two words that spell out certain doom: critical hit. Tavi shrieks, clutching his head in his stubby little paws, and collapses to the ground in a twitching, defeated heap.]
Aw, no way! We were doing so good, too!
[Lyra's expression? You could probably call it a pout, but of course that would be silly because totally-grown-up-12-year-olds like her are obviously too mature to pout. Obviously. Yes. The KO'ed Furret is returned to his ball, and out comes a new Pokemon: a Scizor.]
This one's not going down that easy, Silver! Flynn, start off with a Double Team.
[The Scizor complies, three illusory copies of herself appearing around her. Truthfully, Lyra expects this to be a bit of a "free turn", so to speak; with psychics being weak to bugs, and steel-types resisting psychic moves, she's assuming Silver will switch Alakazam out for something that can do more damage to Flynn.]
I'd say so, yea. I know my very last battle with Silver took us both down to one pokemon each.
She's more like Ethan in terms of battling that he wants to admit, but just that little different that it's a challenge against her. He is mildly surprised and as he's git the upper hand, he can't really complain about the looses - he'll just push his pokemon to get better.
He does roll his eyes at the Double Team though. Oh well. It was a good choice - now he can get rid of it.] Disable.
[That should get rid of the double team for now, though he's still in a jam if she has another move like that up her sleeve. It might be worth teaching the pokemon another offensive attack, after all.]
As far as rivals go, he's easily one of the toughest, yeah.
But that doesn't mean Lyra isn't thinking. She's got a good feeling about Flynn; even if she can't bump her evasion up anymore, she's got solid enough defense to take some abuse. And bug/steel is a typing that might just spell out trouble for Silver's team, if Lyra is remembering right -- Alakazam and Sneasel both share a bug weakness, and if she remembers right, he's got an Umbreon with that same weakness, too.
Yeah, she'll still be okay without Double Team. She just has to stay cool, and focus on launching an offensive instead of playing defensive.]
Who needs Double Team anyway? Let's lay the hurt on, Flynn! Bug Bite!
[With a Technician boost behind it, this move just might hurt, if given the chance to land. The Scizors, real and illusion, all charge in, jabbing out and trying to clamp a pincer down on that Alakazam of Silver's.]
XD Yea. compared to the rest, he can be a litteral White Out if you aren't expecting him. :|
[He knows it won't stop the attack, but it will make the move half as effective against his pokemon, or at least reduce the damage by half - thank Arceus for that move, but knows he needs to move fast now. Dammit though - this was one of the pokemon that he'd not battled much against while in Johto, and even when he did, he'd never paid much attention to it. A bite of his thumb, mind working overtime. He really needs to teach it a second attack. What was he thinking back in Johto..
No matter. He'll deal with that latter.] Now get in there with Psychic and keep at it! Crush the thing!
[Even if it didn't do much, hopefully he could rattle the bugs brains a bit and lower the special defence and/or disorientate it - pity it didn't have the same confusing affect though.]
It's all thanks to him having such a good AI. He's the "smartest" rival I've seen.
Don't give up, Flynn! Try an Aerial Ace!
[Another move chosen for the Technician boost, though the accuracy's also a nice plus. That Reflect is gonna cause problems until it fades away, but Alakazam's already taken some damage, so she's banking on it being enough. Flynn's wings kick into overtime as she darts in to slice at Alakazam, hoping to put an end to the psychic barrage before it gets to be a serious problem.]
s-sob. now I wanna get his game coding and look at that.
[He hates withdrawing a pokemon from a battle halfway, even if it's the better option. He's sure he can make better use of it later when the type would be more effective. Without a word, he recalls it - sending out his Feraligatr - and wastes no time in continuing the battle. Why wait when he's got the advantage.] Waterfall.
[ENJOY THE SWIMMING TIME, FLYNN.]
Good luck getting your hands on it, man
Just like Flynn has the potential to cause a lot of trouble for Silver's team, Feraligatr could be a problem for Lyra's; her best counters have already been knocked out, and her own Feraligatr is not only injured, but poisoned. Magcargo would go down in a single Waterfall... Dragonite might be able to do it if this Feraligatr doesn't have ice moves. It's a big risk, but she's going to need Flynn for Alakazam and those dark-types.
Lyra withdraws her Scizor, and instead sends out Dragonite. He ends up taking the Waterfall intended for Flynn, but again, resistances come in handy; Dragonite's still got plenty of stamina.]
Up into the sky, Janus! Hit 'em with Fly!
[The Dragonite spreads his wings and lifts into the air, climbing up out of reach. It's a strange reversal of the opening of the fight, really; now Silver's Feraligatr is the one with an opponent playing hard to get.]
